So sorry for all the things that happened to you and to the members of your family. How wonderful that you are able to help others, and have risen above your past to accomplish many important things in the way of aiding victims of abuse.
(because it happened to your mother she should have been determined to stop the cycle of abuse for her children!)

Ah, yes....flowers-one bunch in a glass vase, along with two other full smaller containers. Then there is a three-tiered dessert stand thingy, a lovely tablecloth, and the picnic basket on the ground.The mother is dressed so nicely, and all are smiling.
Used to, I'd look at these type of pictures and feel so inadequate. This woman was able to get up early in the morning, get her bookbag ready, then make delicate dessers, put together flowers, make the lunches, and have it all ready so that the family could "enjoy" field service first, then go to a picnic, and still be clean in a white skirt. I actually tried to imitate, as best I could, the pictures like this on the covers of the magazines.
I have been "out" now for over six years, and have worn a dress or skirt only a very few times.

it has been a long time since i have posted.
time heals much pain, and finally, my family and i have been able to move on with our life outside of jw land.. many of you became our friends, our support system, and you know very well our exit story...we were labeled, slandered and disfellowshipped for having questions regarding the date 607. we sent out letters exposing the elders and circuit overseer to over 200 families.
How wonderful to hear. It does really sound like you're just the kind of encouraging parents needed for your daughter. So glad your family left together and are all reaching goals.
Perhaps when her album comes out, she could send one to "grandpa" that thought she'd never amount to anything!

yes it's my 11th jwn birthday.. i could never have imagined when i started posting here as a 36 year old and technically still 'active' jw just how interesting the journey out would be.

I went back and read some of your first posts....mostly about football....English, of course. I know very little about American or English, actually, so...and then on to the generation thingy. I wish I'd followed that nagging doubt in the back of my head when they came out with the "contemporaries" explanation. What a crock.
At any rate, I couldn't follow your threads enough to see if you have family still in, or what your situation is now. You certainly sound well adjusted, and so I hope that you have been able to successfully put all of the Jw stuff behind you. (Of course the fact that I still post here shows that I don't think that's possible)
I hope that you were able to set some goals for your life other than get to the next meeting, and that you've been able to meet some of them in the ensuing time. I determined to finsh my education, and I will graduate from college in one more year(I have to work full time and can only take two classes at a time). I am sixty now so hopefully I'll remember some of what I learned before Alzheimer's gets me!

it's a little over a year since my daughter was diagnosed with end stage congestive heart failure due to a virus.
her dr. was talking heart transplant then.. i almost lost her 3 times over the past year due to complications.
2011 was a tough year to put it mildly.

after a terrible break up and being away from the congregation for about 10yrs i started to think about coming back.
i couldnt even watch the news anymore because of the termendous anxiety it would cause.
i felt that there was a target on my back and the big a would surely come before i could get my act together.
But I opened up pandoria's box. And now Im here. I have been all over the internet researching for the last few months.
Yes, once you know, you can't unknow. If you notice my name, you will see that for so long I desperately clung to the hope that the WTS was all it was supposed to be...and that even though mistakes were made, etc.
Eventually, after alot of time and yes, reading all the articles the WTS has published over the years, I have to feel differently. I was "in" for over thirty years.
One time, I was conducting a study in the red "Live Forever Book." The book stated that the people of Sodom and Gomorrah would/would not (I forget which) be resurrected. The woman I was studying with said, "That's not what my book says." It seems that the WTS had printed an updated version of the same book, and lo and behold, it DID say the exact opposite of what mine said. Talk about an embarassement! I attended every meeting and didn't even have a "head's up" that this was going to happen.
Oh, yes, and if you've looked into all the "generation" changes the WTS has done over the years, it must be so upsetting to you.
Please keep reading. Down the line, in time, you can make an informed decision.

i'l soon be 17, i'm an unbaptized publisher, but innactive (havent gone door to door)for more than a year, but still very strict with our organisation's standards (lyk no teenage dating).
As to your questions.
None of us go to the KHall anymore. We left because of the mistreatment, but when I found this site, many of my suspicions were confirmed. I had been upset about the many changes to the "generation" teaching. With the latest one, overlapping generations, their credibility has gone out the window.
I still consider myself a Christian, because I admire the things that Jesus did on earth. My husband doesn't want to discuss religion at all, and says he no longer believes in anything. I am not sure where my daughter stands. I know for sure none of us believe that Jehovah's Witnesses are special people in God's eyes. I hope that God smiles on all humans, and will read the hearts of those who truly want to do good to their fellow man, regardless of their religious affiliation!
