anyway, a crazy thing happened yesterday.

my little brother came online and we chatted.

Look for good things to tell him about yourself. Have you completed college or are you going? Tell him something interesting you've learned. Have you developed a hobby? Tell him how you enjoy it. Maybe some things that you are doing that sound like fun would be just the thing to help him to see that life is not over once you are away from the borg.

He is reaching out to you. You have a wonderful opportunity to have him in your life. Through him maybe other family members will soften. At any rate, he has the right to his beliefs, just as you do. Tread carefully. He has taken one step in the right direction, against their teachings, that of contacting you. You may have a chance as time goes by to feed him tiny bits of information heading him in the right direction. Don't be hasty.

Tell him how proud you are of him, also. He doesn't get much but guilt from the WTS as we all know.

Shunned by the congregation for not performing

as many of you know, i am a witness who still attends for the sake of my wife.

my meeting attendance has dropped to about 50% and i make maybe 1 hour a month in field service, although i report more than this to keep the elder's off my back.. after several months of this, the result has been noticeable.. those who used to be friendly and greet me no longer do so.

some even avoid me.

Then, after I stopped going to meetings, an elder came by my house and said I should return to God and to meetings so that I can have “limited association.” “Limited association?” What is that supposed to mean?

You think you've heard it all. I was going over a few posts that I had missed and read yours.

I know what this means. In just two short sentences he is telling you to consider yourself a "lesser one" than all the rest of the people at the hall. He is telling you that you are weak and to be viewed as a danger--a poor associate for the ones at the Hall. You are worthy of less love because you are not at every meeting. Did he endeavor to find out if you'd been sick or depressed?

How in the world would this man expect that you would possibly feel welcomed upon coming to a meeting? I'll bet he went home and "raised his hands to the heavens" in prayer, telling God that he was not like the "people of the earth" like you and me.

I do remember reading that Jesus feels that each one of us is so precious that he gave his life for us. Guess the elder doesn't dwell on this scripture.

No wonder there are more and more of us on this forum!!

i have a friend well call michael whose conscience landed him in trouble with hq.. .

he was a district overseer in the pre 75 era but his conscience would not allow him to .

endorse the unscriptural date setting.

How sad that you were "counseled" because you wanted your hamster resurrected!! They should have applauded your spiritual thinking.

When my daughter was in first grade there was a little witness girl in her class that used to chase all the children from the class during recess, shouting at them "You're going to die at Armageddon!" I don't recall that she was counseled for this. They probably would have wanted her to become an unbaptised publisher and count the time she did this!!!!

And just how do they know this--did they say? Never might--silly me--of course not.

It seems to me that I read some time back that they didn't know if there would be any of the "Annointed" still alive at the time of the big A and then they came out with the "nethinim" because the GB geezers needed help.

The poster was right that said that the annointed seem to be baaaaad people, always needing to be replaced by new, young ones. For only 144,000 there seem to be replacements after replacements through the years since Jesus first chose them!!!

Great Crowd Appeared in 1930's........or did it?

the specific point i wanted to discuss is the 'great crowd' theology the wts puts forth, especially the timeline of events it presents as accurate.

I always remember being taught that even though the book of Revelation says that the dead do not come to life until after the thousand years, the WTS said this meant that they did not come to life "in the fullest sense of the word" until after they had come to perfection--after the thousand years of applying the ransom had made them perfect.

Is all of this just a mass of confusion to others like it is to me now? I was "in the truth" for over thirty years, being baptized in 1973. and I never knew that at one time they had taught that the tribulation began in 1914 but was "cut short" for the holy ones.

New light, new light, new light...................How does confusion grow when the light keeps getting brighter?

Yes, I used to wonder how the "great crowd" was told in 1935 that they would survive the big A and now many are already dead. I never asked the question out loud, though.

Would the WT club have mandated the prodigal son be shunned?

the prodigal son's father met him out on the road as he approached, put a fine robe around his shoulders and had rings made for him.

they had a big party as he announced "my son has come home!!

" everone knew he had blown his inheritance on liquor and prostitutes.. wouldn't the wt "arrangement" have mandated a comittee meeting to have been held to determine if they felt he was truly repentant and most probably he would have to had a period of time that he was shunned so they could tell the congregation "that situation had been dealt with".

In Jesus’ parable of the prodigal son, the father ran to meet and then accepted his returning son. The father, seeing the lad’s pitiful condition, responded with natural parental concern. We can note, though, that the son did not bring home harlots or come with a disposition to continue his sinful life in his father’s home. No, he expressed heartfelt repentance and evidently was determined to return to living a clean life.

Of course the son did not bring home any harlots. The account says that his money was all gone.They would not have come with him. The account also states that he was hungry and so had no other recourse. The father could have used this information to really berate him, and lecture him on how things would be now, and make life hard for him. The facts show that he did not. He showed true love as a father to a son. What he had done was not even mentioned. It was past and not to be dwelt on anymore.

Contrast that with the JC. They hound and want every sordid detail, berate, and humiliate until the "sinner" feels no worth as a human. Then they must allow the congregation to show their disdain by disfellowshipping and shunning. This after the person has learned a lesson and humbled themselves, returning and asking for help.

It is obvious that the JC does not feel the fatherly love that they are supposed to as being shepherds of God, caring for the sheep.

the first quotation comes from the 1904 edition of millennial dawn, vol 3, p.342.

part of the quotation says: "the close of 1874 was the chronological beginning of the time of trouble such as was not since there was a nation".

Looks like someone needs to go back to Egypt and recount the steps, doesn't it? Somehow they need to add up to more years, since the 1914 thing is getting a little stale.

It sure does seem like Mormons and early Russellites were somewhat cut from the same mold. The LDS had to view Joseph Smith as God's mouthpiece and the Witnesses had to view Russell as the faithful slave. Both had the pronouncements of God.

I read every word of your post. You are quite a strong person for sharing this with us.

Most people on the inside have no clue that there are men like your molester, and unknowingly had their children over to them. No wonder your mother almost lost her mind.

I would never have imagined in a million years that these things happen until I began to read stories such as yours on this board. How dare these men treat a seven year old in this manner. They should have cried and told you how precious you were and how much Jesus loved you and how none of what happened was your fault.

I hope you can feel proud of the service you are doing for others by educating them with your story. May this never happen to another young child.

I'm new....and I have a rant

ok, i apologize for this impromptu introduction/rant, but i am reeling right now and really have no where elso to turn.. let me start off by giving you a little history of what has gotten me to this point.

this post might be a little long, so you might want to dust off those .

reading glasses.. anyways, my parents were baptised as dubs in the pre 1975 frenzy to make it to the new system...if they only knew 30 some odd years later...suprise, we are .

I agree with the posters that said be really involved with your child and develop activities like sports or a hobby to do together. Never down the mom as this will cause stress to the child and it will put it in the middle-a terrible place to be. I would also not down the WTS too much, either, as child will probably report back to mom anything you say. Just be the dad child will always fight to be with. Be the encouragement for education that child will not have from the Borg. Be the source of closeness and unconditional love.

Check with your lawyer, yes, for recourses against the baptism.

I know you will do well, because you care so deeply for your child.
