Apocalyptic groups only have one product to sell and that's the Apocalypse. It's sort of like running a dairy farm with only one cow to milk. If yer gonna make it, ya gotta milk the heck out of that one cow.
Here's the outline: Raise the kids with a subconscious fear of impending doom. Scare the adolescents with demon stories. Reward the adults with social benefits and status positions. Scare the adults with threatening to remove the social benefits and status positions. Reward the mature people with promises of paradise and seeing their resurrected relatives. Reward the old people with promises of being resurrected.
Oh, be sure rational thinking is called "doubt" and is seen as a weakness. :-)Garyb-you have such a way with words!! I always enjoy your posts. This one hit the nail on the head!!

I have been Inducted.....

one other member and i had been attending since spring as members but never had the ceremony.
they finally got around to it this week.

That's the point, isn't it? She allows that she should display free will, but not other witnesses. They should toe the party line. It's just the old "Do as I say, not as I do" routine.
In fact she is the worst kind of hypocrite. She comes here in the darkness, hiding her activities from the WTS. Then appears in her "unspotted from the world" garments in the KHall. It cannot be that she does not know better.
I for one do not intend to let her off the hook.

jws are causing global warming
by rebel8 inok, so i realize we all are causing global warming, etc., etc.
i was thinking how interesting it is that jws will beif theyre not alreadyranting on about mans destruction of earth being the fulfillment of prophecy, blahbety blah blah, all the while they are contributing in a hearty way to the problem.
if man is so evil and godless for destroying the earth, what does that make the dubs?

Khalls usually do not have windows, either. So no way not to use air conditioning. And speaking of that, I used to get so cold at meetings, my nose would feel like ice. It used to make me mad, and I didn't want to contribute money to finance a place that made me so uncomfortable and used so much electricity.
Also, the Khall that I went to was pretty new. It had a large parking lot that baked in the hot Texas sun. Why couldn't they have left stips of grass in the parking lot and planted trees to park under for shade? Not one tree was left when they got through clearing the land.
Also, the hot air that left the platform from pompous windbags surely contributes to global warming!!!

THINKING OF FAKING IT GOING FOR REINSTATEMENT

i got divorced from my jw wife, of 25 years, after living with another woman for almost 1.5 years [knew her for 3 years] .
the divorce that was my doing was last dec. 06. the divorce went through but all the financial settlements have yet to be agreed on.

You seem reasonably sure your wife would take you back. You treated her very badly. The least you could do for her is give up the smoking. You seem to have realised the value of family. Would I go back in order to keep mine together? I think maybe I would. I have been married for thirty six years. To have someone to love and love you is a gift not to be taken lightly.

Actually, I think that this is a brilliant strategy for the WTS.
After all, it requires the person who distributes the tract to have no more intelligence than a qumquat, and as you said alleviates all that pesky having to answer questions from the householders or actually delving into the Bible, for gosh sakes.
I remember a couple of years back in service dreading that anyone would ask me questions about current JW belief, as I did not feel qualified to answer. That was because I could not understand the 1995 generation change, much less explain it to someone else. I did not understand the Revelation book, no matter how many times they wanted everyone to study it. And now the change in the doctrine that the "door" to being one of the annointed was closed in 1935 is no longer certain has confused many even more, I am sure.
So let's give it to the WTS. They do not ask anything more than blind unthinking obedience to their words, and a few hours of walking but not talking while giving out bland messages few read, and it seems for the most part to still be working for them!
