Thanks for posting this. It is a well-written piece of journalism. I hope readers get past the convention part and find the part about shunning. Poor woman. How can a person be a better husband/wife/mother/father/brother/sister and shun their own family?

Feeling Disfellowshipped
by meep5 inlet me briefly explain my back-story: i grew up in a jw household and was technically a jw until 20 years old.
i stopped attending meetings in 1998 and told my parents i was done in 1999. i'm not sure where i saw my future when i was 19 but i know for a fact i didn't see myself as a "witness" then.
i hated the hypocrisy and the extreme gossip.

Just wanted to welcome you to the forum. Coming here is a very good way to vent your frustrations. Yes, we understand that no one else could know what it is like to have been a JW and leave. Please be patient with your mother. She is a loyal JW, which at one time I was-but now I'm here. We don't know what the future holds. She may need you in the future for help with your dad. Don't cut off communication now or it will be hard later.

I see that you are getting welcomed, but are not new here....but let me say.....YES! to your recovery.
I also am in recovery. It never really leaves you, but after a few years the guilt thing lessens and the urge to really live kicks in. Are your parents still living? How have they adapted to your "recovery?"

Welcome to the forum.
After many years of reading people's stories here, I am no longer surprised at all. Witnesses are very good at appearing "normal" and hiding what they do. There is always the "don't drag Jehovah's name through the mud" routine that means don't let anyone know that the JWs are basically the same as anyone else, they are just masters at covering the dirty laundry.

How to stay married to a born-in JW?
by Frazzled UBM init is hard to work out where to begin.
i have been reading excerpts from this websikte for a long time and it along with a lot of the other sites have been incredibly helpful in helping me to understand what i have got myself into but i alos have no intention of getting out.
i love my wife dearly but in the 9 years i ahve known her and the 2.5 years we ahve been married i have gone through the full gammit of emotions, trials and trbulations and tactics to try to get her to understand that the society is not what it claims to be but to no avail.

Welcome to the forum.
Sounds like you are doing many things right. And yes, trying to get her to reason on questions about the WTS motives will only make her dig in her heels and try to defend thre indefensible.
Patience.....and yes, doing family things together.
Also, read JW facts.com. Did you know that some years ago the WTS said that being married to an unbeliever was like kissing a corpse as all the wicked (sorry, that means you by virtue of not being a JW) will be destroyed? Isn't that a lovely sentiment?

First post
by EastCoastMindFree ini have been on this site lurking for over 2 years and this is my first post, i feel so bottled with emotion that i have to let it out somehow so i do not have an emotional breakdown!
i was raised in the organization and am married with 2 children ages 4 and 2. my wife and i have been inactive for about 2 years and i have always had hard questions that were never answered growing up, such as blood policy and how david and his men were allowed to eat from the bread reserved for the high priests without death penalty since it was life or death.
carbon dating on human remains/tools that date back 30-40k years, far surpassing the 6k year man creation date, the double standards and very real "human" aspect on the organization and its decisions and history.

Welcome to the forum.
You have some hard decisions to make. Don't do anything rash. Read many posts here, and set some goals. If you never completed your education, make that a goal. Yes, even if you have small children and family responsibilities. Use the time that you would have been sitting in a KHall absorbing nothing but constantly changing "new light" and do something that will benefit you and your family. Also, go out and have fun with your family-parks, camping, etc.with some fresh air.
Expect to feel many emotions, such as anger, sadness, frustration, and bewilderment. Give it time. It gets better...lots better.

Role Reversal: Placing 1969 Awake with JW's Manning the New Portable Literature Displays
by snapdragon4 inin recent weeks the jw’s here in the uk have been setting up their new portable watchtower literature displays in my local town square on a saturday morning.
as they hadn’t knocked on my door for at least five years, and consequently feeling somewhat neglected, i thought that i would pay them a visit instead.. .
the first thing i needed to do was arrange my literature.

Wow-you did great! You helped a young person to do some critical thinking. I hope the information starts to lead her to some questions about all the "facts" she's been taught thus far.

by Slidin Fast ini heard a rumour today to the effect that there is a new gb member in his late twenties/early thirties.
i stress that this is unsubtantiated and requires confirmation or quashing.. can anyone confirm or definately deny it?.

Oh, why not in view of the overlapping generation change. They come out with such insipid drivil constantly contradicting previous insipid drivil.
I remember once about twenty-five years ago the WTS came out with a WT addressing youngish people who claimed to be annointed. They emphatically stated that if someone was going to be newly annointed surely someone with years of faithful service would be chosen and that would preclude someone young.
He certainly does look pleased with himself in the picture.

I wondered if you ever apologized to Jehovah for smearing his name all over the public media because you 'just couldn't help yourself.'
Ha! They use this as an excuse to cover up pedophilia and shunning in the media. This way they can treat people any way they wish, and no one should report anything or they will "drag Jehovah's name through the mud."Can't tell you how many times I heard that over the years.
Isn't the creator of the universe big enough to handle his own problems?
My parents had a cleaning lady(unfortunately I witnessed to her and she became a JW) but at any rate she quoted her mother's favorite saying: "What's did in the dark will come out in the light."
The WTS prefers the darkness.....
