While I have personally never had a 'supernatural' experience, I have spoken with quite a few, including a family member, who claim that they have. I am honestly not sure just how I would react if I did have 'contact' with a non-human intelligence. Maybe, I would just say 'hello' and try to make conversation. I might ask it if it has a purpose in making noise or whatever. There is no point in believing what the WTS says about spirits, since they haven't told us the truth about other things. Still, I wish that there was a scientific explanation to what has happened in your apartment. How long have you lived there?

Big announcement after all DC have ended?
by Quandary ini was told by a reliable source that the organization will be making a "big announcement" at the end of the summer when all the dcs have ended.
has anyone else heard this?
maybe this is the "new light" they have alluded to in recent wt study articles?

Warlock, I'm sure you're just probably joking, right? After all the effort they made to put the whole 607BCE based timeline in their brand new book, do you really think they will ever acknowledge 587BCE as the correct date for the destruction of the temple? Which, of course, is really sad considering how even the Jews say that the first temple was destroyed in 587BCE. In fact, I was just looking at the web site MyJewishLearning.com to see if I can understand the Hebrew language a bit better, and they have it right there on one of their web pages. I just got a new Hebrew/English Tanakh and a Lexicon so I can play translator for fun.
Anyway, I think the 'big announcement' is just a ploy to start rumor and speculation among the R&F. Yes, I'm sure they do that on purpose, too.

1914 explanation
by sspo inwhen was the last time that the society gave an explanation about 1914?
for years now it's always that god's kingdom was established in the heavens in 1914 and 1918 jesus directed his attention toward rutherford.
no more trying to give historical facts or dates why they came up with 1914.. is this what you have noticed?

I was wrong. It is not in the new book. The new book has a chart of the kings of Judah and Israel with the 'minor' prophets based on the Society's 607BCE chronology. The 2520 years chart with the standard explanation is in the July 15, 2006 Watchtower on pages 6-7. It just so happened that this week I looked through both the magazine and book for the first time and somehow got them mixed up. Sorry.

Having just glanced through the new book Jehovah's Day, I noticed a page with the ever popular 2520 years graph that has 607BCE on the left and 1914CE on the right.

I always liked long hair for men/boys. But I was raised as a Witness, and my parents never let me grow long hair (not even in the seventies). Now that I'm out, I'm going to get long hair too! I'll probably just tie it up in the back with a band and not bother to braid it.

heated argument with "brainwashed" in-law
by DaCheech inthe other day i spent more time than normal with my inlaw.. ( in which is in so much credit card debt).
after 1 hour of spending time and talking about her nonsense (s)he says "the signs out there show that we are sooooooooo close to end".. i asked, what makes you think so?.
(s)he says the convention showed us how close we are, and the other day i saw the arsenal of north korea".

*** the convention showed us how close we are
LOL! I'll bet there are quite a few that think this convention is a big deal because "it's really close now!"
Anyone who is aware of the state of world affairs at this time can deduce that some serious problems are facing mankind this century. The WTBTS is going to take advantage of the situation to maintain membership roles as new recruits dwindle, thanks to the internet. But, no matter what disaster (take your pick) may befall us and our children this century, no Kindom of God(TM) is going to intervene and bring about a Paradise Earth(TM). Sometimes I would like to say to JW's: You like prophecy? I've got one for you... If you're lucky, you might die an old man/woman in this world, because Armageddon ain't gonna save you! -

Matt. 10:35
by gspradling inmy jw mom always uses this verse to justify her distance from me and my family.
i have never been able to come up with a reasonable response to her.
does anyone have any good suggestions?

Works of the Flesh(TM) include 'contentions and divisions' whereas the Fruitage of the Spirit(TM) includes 'peace, longsuffering, and kindness'.
Are True Christians(TM) supposed to be the cause of such works of the flesh? Or are they only the victims of it from so-called unbelieving family members?
It seems to me that it should be a one-way-street. The True Believers do not intend to cause division with their religion, but instead are persecuted despite their loving and peaceful stance. I see nothing in that scripture that would allow a True Christian(TM) to indulge in works of the flesh.

Can you let go?
by whyamihere inas i was sitting in a restaurant with my friend briana(ex-jw), we started talking about how we see other ex-jw's inability to let go.
i know many have suffered and endured horrific events or trials as jw's, which i assume it would be hard to let go.
though, do we really have the ability to let go lead a normal life with not thinking twice or having fear in our actions?.
-
PrimateDave
Well, I am in the process of letting go. I haven't been to a meeting for a month and won't go back. I don't feel obligated to say anything at all to the local congregation. I am trying to build up a network of friends outside 'the truth'. I guess that's the purpose of the fade. Try to make it work on the outside just in case one gets 'cut off'. I haven't fessed up to the family either, but they don't live near me, so my only contact with them is by phone of mail. It would have been much harder to fade if I still lived close to them. I am emotionally preparing myself to tell them eventually. I don't mean to go through all the anti-Witness explanation with them. I will just tell them that I love them and ask them to just let me be me. Everyone must find their own path.

do you?
by purplebunnyfoofoo in.
believe that gods name is jehovah?
do you still use it as his name?
-
PrimateDave
I don't believe in a god or gods. As far as translating a god's name from its original usage in another language, 'Jehovah' is well recognized in English, but is really no more correct than using 'Jesus'. Personally, when referring to the tribal war god of the ancient Israelites, I think I prefer to say Yahweh Elohim (Yahweh of the Gods). Yes, a territorial war god of an ancient polytheistic people. Monotheism was a post-exilic developement.
