"Be Like Jeremiah" was a pretty annoying song. I know that there were a few more I hated, but I thankfully can't remember them right now!

The chronicles of Narnia and Harry Potter
by uuus2b1 inlast year, i bought a few movies for my 16 year old niece when i went on vacation, among them was the movie "the chronicles of narnia (the lion, the witch and the wardrobe).
a few days later my brother called and said that he would like if i came by to pick up the movie as they would not allow their daughter to watch that movie.
(my brother is an elder) when i went to his house the movie was left virtually the same place that i had left it.

I have only watched the Harry Potter movies, never read the books. I have enjoyed the Chronicles of Narnia since I was a kid. I think that my favorite in the series was the Voyage of the Dawn Treader. I bought the big anniversary edition that came out a few years ago that has all the books in one hardcover volume. That said, I never heard any Witness say anything bad about The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. Everyone, it seems, was openly against the Harry Potter series. Funny, really, because those same people wouldn't think twice about watching The Wizard of Oz. Oh, I forgot, Dorothy just dreamed it all! LOL!

I was told that I cried, wet myself and had to be taken outside a lot.
Um, yes, I was a baby.

Have you let go of waiting for Armageddon?
by Fisherman inalthough, after experiencing many disappointments and failed dates, i cannot let go and i cannot dismiss the expectation that god will intervene somehow.
i still hold on, hoping that maybe i will not experience sheol and neither will some of my loved ones.
how about you?

Ever since I said no to being in a relationship with an insane, abusive, imaginary Sky-Daddy (or at least to being taken advantage of by a Corporation promoting this fairy tale from an old, irrelevant set of documents), I don't wait for Har-Mageddon, the war of the great Day of God the Almighty as it is referred to in an ancient piece of religious propaganda.
That said, I do believe that we live in an extraordinary time for human beings. We may see a period of great distress this century due to resource depletion, biosphere destruction, and environmental toxification. Do you still feel guilty, not going to the memorial?
by JH inthe first time i missed the memorial, i was sick and couldn't go, and felt guilty because that meeting was so important.. then another year, i missed again, this time i wasn't sick.
i still felt guilty, because i still believed in the religion to a certain extent.
i didn't go because i didn't want to go back to the meetings, and feel trapped once more.. maybe some feel guilty that they aren't doing anything for the memorial or easter, depending which religion you think is right, because after all jesus did say to remember him..

First, my mother called last month and in the course of the conversation asked if I knew when the memorial was, which, of course, I didn't. So, she told me. A couple of weeks ago I got a "care package" from my father, consisting of the latest magazines. I told them a while back that I didn't mind them sending me "the literature". Included with the magazines was a memorial invitation with a post-it note on it that said "please attend".
Well, I love my parents. I am pleased that so far they have stayed in contact with me despite the fact that I openly disassociated myself here and told them about it. I wasn't going to lie to them, and I had no patience for fading. Besides, I wanted to let my hair grow long and grow a beard. ;) However, I am NOT going to the memorial. When they ask, I will say that I did not go. I will say that I have my reasons which I will not discuss with them out of respect for their beliefs. Besides, I already know that there is no way to win an argument with them, and any argument would only cause bad feelings. Sigh. So, no I will not feel guilty about not attending the memorial itself, but I do not look forward to saying so to my family because they simply won't understand.

I used to have the best conversations with my Mom when I was a dub-not now
by themonster123 inwhenever me and my mom would have our weekly study, it seemed like we would have the best conversations.
that's when i felt closest to her and felt like both our minds and hearts were open and loving and receptive.
now....(she's still a jw-i'm not), whenever we talk, since it's never about spiritual stuff anymore (since i don't believe it), it's always about shallow stuff-i feel so shallow.

It used to be easy to talk to my parents, too. Believe me, it is not your fault. It is just a manifestation of the cult mind. If you somehow could get her out of the Borg for a year, you would see the difference. For my part, I refuse to have any discussion about doctrine with my family. Still, they like to make remarks that somehow are supposed to "wake me up" and get me back into the Borg. Since I have no desire to argue, and I realize it would only cause them to throw up mental blocks, I say nothing in response to comments like "this old world will end soon."

Hiring a new fellow today and they must be white.
by hambeak inas some of you know i am a manager of an auto repair place that does it all.. the owner is ethiopian and hates blacks.
i had a great guy there who is black and did a great job.
the owner absolutely was rude and nasty to him calling him an animal and ordered him fired because he was slow in getting things done.. i am caught in the middle cuz i need my job to pay the bills so no more black or mexican workers just white folks even though most i have seen are not motivated or see something that has to be done so now i am a baby sitter and have to let them know what has to be done every minute of the day.. oh well such is the life working for foreigners here in the usa..

You seem to imply that you could loose your job if you hire anyone but a white man to do the job. Well, then your employer would have to look for two people to replace! Why not just interview everyone and pick the best prospect regardless of gender or color or cultural background. If he doesn't like it when you pick a woman or a native American or aboriginal Australian or Gullah-speaking South Carolinian, then tell him to find someone himself!

Unfortunately, the best beer I ever had was home-brewed ale that a friend of my father made. It was a rich, dark ale, and it inspired me to try my hand at home brewing beer from available kits. I have enjoyed many micro brews, whatever was available at the time and place.

A Depressed Update In Life.
by roflcopter inmy life's been slowly going in the crapper lately.

Sorry to see you going through a hard time with your family. Give it some time and try to focus on taking care of yourself. The best way to defeat the Witnesses is to show how well you can do without them. Best of luck.

wow, what a response!
by Matt_fs ini simply asked a friend of mine to explain to me deut 20:20-22 and he wrote this:.
"its really quite simple what i think about deut.18:20-22. i don't.
the hebrew scriptures describing aspects of the original law convenent ended when the new convenent came into place by means of christ's death.

Bluntly, there is no point in continuing your discourse with this individual. Your "friend" is most likely on the defensive now and smells an "apostate". There simply is no magic bullet comment that will change any one person's mind. Speaking from experience, even when a person wants to find the answers to questions and is willing to question the foundations of their "faith", it takes a great deal of "personal study" to defeat the teachings of the WTS in one's own mind.
