this is a serious question.
how many of you have jobs?
from the number of posts and the times people complain on here, it looks that many of you don't.

so my parents go to the international convention in an exotic foreign country.
they take 300 digital pictures in the exotic foreign country.
when they get home, they send me three pictures.
I'm not surprised. Coming from a group of people that think touring Bethel is a vacation, this doesn't surprise me one bit.

i guess this is more of a "what do i expect when" type question.. my mother left the jw's when i was a child and was subsequently disfellowshipped.
i'm 28 and only remember seeing my maternal grandparents once in my life - at a cousin's graduation (who was still jw at the time.
anyways, since my mother's parents (and all my other relatives) are over 950 miles away, when we were there last, i stopped in at their address and visited.
JW's look at the pessimistic side of everything including world events. If they bring up how "terrible" things are in the world try to bring up the bright side of it. I would agree with the others about avoiding any religious chit chat but if you find yourself stuck in a religious discussion, ask them about the changes in their teachings particularly the "Generation of 1914"

Hi and welcome Little1.
I can relate somewhat to your story because mine is similar to yours. There is one exception, my friend and I had a platonic relationship. When I met him he hardly stepped foot in the hall, then depression set in and he started studying again and eventually got baptised. I tried to help him by questioning him about old WT teachings which he had no idea about. Then I went to a meeting at the Kingdom Hall and met all of the pioneers and elders that were coaching him through my questions. Not only were they not happy to see me in the hall, but they treated me like crap.
Right after his baptism he started getting sick a lot. I know it was caused from the pressure they put on him. Anyway, he chose the dark side over his non-judgmental non-witness friends.

DELAND, Fla. -- Investigators named a man with a history of mental illness a suspect in the shooting and stabbing deaths of a mother and her two adult sons.

Deputies had taken him to the facility after they found him walking around in bloody clothing Monday, taunting them to shoot him.
Carmen Negron, 63, and sons Gilberto Vergara-Negron, 28, and Yamir Orlando Vergara-Negron, 26, were found dead Monday night in their Orange City home by a friend who'd come for a Bible study.
Carrasquillo knew the two sons, and occasionally went to their home to ask for rides, said Lt. Gordon Meyer of the Volusia County Sheriff's Office.
The Spanish-speaking Jehovah's Witnesses congregations to which the Negrons belonged had tried to help Carrasquillo with a drug problem, church elder Eugenio Muriel said.
Deputies were working to match the man's fingerprints to the Negron's 1995 Honda Civic DX, which was found Tuesday in Orlando, about 25 miles away.
Negron, who moved her family to the United States from Puerto Rico about 10 years ago, was a widow who stayed at home taking care of her family, friends and neighbors said.
Gilberto Vergara-Negron worked at a Seminole County car rental agency to support both his mother and Yamir Vergara-Negron, who was studying to be a paramedic at a local community college.
Carrasquillo was being held without bail at the Seminole County jail. It could not immediately be determined whether he had an attorney.

Jehovah's Witnesses, CPS reach agreement over baby's care
Associated Press
WACO, Texas - The state has reached a tentative agreement with a Jehovah's Witness couple who have opposed blood transfusions for their son born 15 weeks premature.
The agreement reached Thursday between attorneys for Child Protective Services and Shawn and Alicia Castillo clears the way for the couple to transfer their son to a Fort Worth hospital. Doctors there are trained in alternate methods of treatment that could reduce the need for transfusions.
The deal allows the state to authorize blood transfusions that go against the parents' religious beliefs.
The order was to be signed by the judge Friday after minor details were resolved, the Waco Tribune-Herald reported in Friday editions.
Child Protective Services took custody of 1-pound, 9-ounce Connor soon after his Nov. 16 birth because his parents refused to allow transfusions. Connor was too small to produce blood and needed a dozen or more transfusions to survive, doctors argued in court documents.
Connor has continued to receive transfusions and remains in an incubator at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco.
Representatives from both sides say the original removal order reflects a medical issue and does not indicate any abuse by the Castillos.
More than 50 friends, family members and fellow worshippers packed Waco's 74th State District Court on Thursday to listen to Judge Alan Mayfield go over the agreement.
According to the order, the state will act as Connor's custodian only when doctors feel a transfusion is needed. The parents will be in charge of all other matters, including where and by whom Connor is treated.
The order also says that when doctors give Connor blood, it should be no more than medically necessary.
"This type of case, where there's a clash between medical legal requirements and religious beliefs, can become uncomfortable," said W. McNab Miller III, the couple's Houston-based attorney. "Delightfully, no one ran roughshod over the religious beliefs of the family."
kinda new to the forums, stumbled across this discussion board whilst researching the wt involvement with the un as an ngo, laughed my head off when i found out they got booted cuz everyone gave em a bad rap (serv's em right) http://www.aimoo.com/forum/postview.cfm?id=311102&categoryid=3459&threadid=1131916&highlight_key=y&keyword1=ngo.
anyway, been a "baptized" jw since 13 at the cow palace (now 20).... been a "questioning" jw since a few months after my "baptism".... still hang around the jw's... heck i was brought up as one from a tot and all of my good friends are jw's... even my girlfriend is a jw..... sigh... i've told her my stance... i'm way more liberal when it comes to religion and spirituality than i was taught to be, and bless the creator, she still loves me.
but anyway i'm at a continuing crossroads, as far as staying or leaving.... i shan't be in this state of mind for much longer but i'm just trying to get good reasons to pack the bags.... if anyone has some "meat" for me to sink my teeth into pass it my way.. haha, wow i'm spilling my guts and no one even knows me yet lol.
Hello and welcome.
