Out of Mythic into Rational consciousness, the EX-JW Journey

i have been absent much for almost a year, reading, learning and breaking out of boxes, figuratively.

i'm hoping that sharing some thoughts and asking some questions might be fun, and maybe helpful for a few.

have you wondered how two people can look at the same information, go through the same experience as you, perhaps even be party to the same conversation yet come away with an entirely different perception?

The quantum mechanics conversation is leading to the perfect axis between spirituality and science. The concept that we are all "one" is reflected in Christianity, Buddhism and Hinduism.

If this intersection is true then both sides, religion and science, have a lot of baggage to shed.

The JW's Concept of The Resurrection, a False Hope?

the jw's concept of the resurrection is that at some time in the future a duplicate physical body of a person will be created and onto this duplicated body's brain, the person's memories will be impressed.

the jw's are very clear that the individual does not possess a "soul" that continues on after death, so there is nothing unique to transfer from the original person to the re-created body.

why should the idea that some impostor in the future who was given my memories and who also believes that they were once me give me any hope today?

V....They explicitly deny any sort of tangible continuity of self (rather, it is a re-creation of a duplicate self), so I can't see how any of the definitions of reincarnation apply, i.e. something that is being incarnated again.

Leolaia: I know I am splitting hairs here, and I hope you appreciate this, but I believe that reincarnation is an applicable term.

Note that I said the literal definition of reincarnation, not the religious one. See above for the definition anyway. It is a "new body." There are other terms like clone, or recreation that apply as well.

The important thing is that anyone coming alive again in Paradise will not be "resurrected" in that their old bodies will not rise again.

New body, new soul, replicated memories and personality. Creepy.

Letter from GB to all Congregations

this morning i found out that last night at the service meeting, a letter was read from the society to a nearby congr.

about the danger of the internet.. they warned all the dubs about being on the internet because many are being influenced fom apostate websites and pornography.. does anyone else have the details of what was said and read?.

Yes there was a letter read to the congregations about web communities and personal info on the internet.

The letter was targeted at sites like myspace.com but there was no mention of any specific website. This is a definite shift from recent assembly and convention talks that have demonised myspace, but without specifying why such sites are dangerous.

The letter was very detailed about the dangers of child predators and had the substance of the TV Dateline "To Catch a Predator" shows. It even warned of mobile phone web access.

I have to admit this was a balanced and informative letter without the haranging and paranoia of the earier "NO MYSPACE!" rants. There was little mention of apostate issues, the letter was focused on sexual predators and the dangers of having personal info for all to see on the web.

JWs do NOT believe in "resurrection"!!

They teach a literal definition of reincarnation. Read any dictionary:

1. the belief that the soul, upon death of the body, comes back to earth in another body or form.
2. rebirth of the soul in a new body.
3. a new incarnation or embodiment, as of a person.

Also, you could say they teach that the dead person is cloned with implanted memories, anyone recall Bladerunner?

thanks to a poster, we now have the number of memorial partakers worldwide and the number has increased by over 230.. i forget how many there are now, but there are enough threads on the forum to find the info, as well as interesting stats.. .

the watchtower bible & tract society has always been a chronology-based religion.. from its start, russell predicted the christ would bring the end of the world in 1914. when that failed, jesus came invisibly in that year and then selected the international bible students in 1918.. the three and a half years that rutherford and his cronies were in prison during 1914-1918 supposedly parallel the 1,000 + days mentioned in daniel.. then we have the long-forgotten, remembered by no one, "trumpet blasts" at various locations in the u.s. during the 1920s.. in 1931 the name jehovah's witnesses was chosen over the international bible students and four years later, the anointed had been sealed and the door shut to newcomers, although replacements could always find a way to squeeze through and seemingly still do so today.. unknown to many witnesses, 1957 would have marked the end of the generation of 1914, simply because one of the gb felt that the launch of sputnik signified the end times.

Thank you for describing the "life-cycle" of the typical JW convert.

But don't forget about the born-in JWs, raised from birth in this culture.

These JWs (like me) only know the routine and are comfortable with it, although very bored and apathetic. It is also these kids (11-18) who represent 90% of the growth in native JWs (non-immigrant) throughout developed countries.

This is why I believe that the WTS will slowly fade into mainstream because the majority of its members--the born ins--will not want to give up the "hope" while they melt in the apathy that this culture produces. The Society doesn't have to worry as long as they keep baptising their babies.

None. The JW knows the light gets brighter, so the light bulb must be in fact working and on. If the light does not appear to be on or the bulb is missing, it is blamed on the JW's spiritual weakness.

How many Governing Body Members does it take to screw in a light bulb?

One, as long as it is Jaracz. Technically it takes another to second the motion, and the rest to vote "aye".

This reminds me of the video Circuit Overseers were panhandling earlier this year (see Circuit Overseers Are On a Pledge Drive).

The video shows African JWs making bricks from scratch so to save the cost of purchasing. The purchasing of Chinese goods direct will have no effect on the morals of this corporation, especially since JW preaching is banned in China and Jah's wrath will shortly decimate the 1.3 billion who inhabit this country.
