You're not really 'wondering why' they would do this, are you?

Tell about the good JWs
by Skeptic inmost of the jws i met were sincere people.
not perfect, i have my horror stories too, but most were decent people.
i am not discounting the horrible things i hear on this forum.

Never mind.
Suffice to say that you, Skeptic, are a very grateful person and that is a very beautiful thing.

I'm taking a poll (sorry if it's been done before)
by lv4fer inif you were not born into the organization.
my prediction is that the majority were catholic or catholic lites (ie.
episcopal, lutheran, methodist).

were you forced to give up your fleshly family
by nightwarrior in.
please take note.. when i first started studying with jehovahs witnesses ,over a period they lead you to beleive that your family are serving satan ,therfore hidden pressure is put upon you to ditch your family ,if your weak you will do as you are told but as allways they make you think your doing it for god,its so they can start to control you slowly ,your familys gone your old friends are gone you have nothing else be warned then comes the reliance upon every single word the elders say to you hypnotismn comes allso through the literature ,.
i kept my family at a distance i never allowed man to dictate ,pluss i had no opposition from my family in times of need i was there to support my greater family and now i still have them if needed why make yourself miserable.. thank god i never bowed to the presure of relinquishing my family ties

I always felt they had a LOT in common with criminals of domestic violence.
You prove my point.

Two Elders Came to Visit this Afternoon
by Scully in..... and i missed it!!!

I was thinking about how much we might all like it if individual 'JW Disfellowshippings' were 'announced' in the newspaper!
Realizing this ain't never gonna' happen (unless we just start to purchase little 'ads' on our own)...I'm thinking, would we like to see this in maybe a book form - or how 'bout an annual or bi-monthly magazine?
Just little announcements, listing the names of the people announced to be d'fd or d'a (if they want to be included), the WTS official 'reason' and, in their own words, the 'real story'.
Wouldn't that be a prickly pear in the society's cap?!

JWS NOT FREE TO FALL IN LOVE
by heyfea inyou know how the society pushes every one to do more, and more, and more....and those who don't do more without a super valid reason (like you're in a coma), are considered not "spiritual", right?
ok, they also tell single brothers and sisters who are pioneers or bethelites that they should only consider marrying those with the same spiritual goals....in other words....choose some one who "loves" jehovah just as much, meaning one who preaches 120 hours a month or works in bethel,etc.....right?
....well i think it is so unfair.. it's already bad enough that we cannot look at another human being from the opposite sex because they are not witnesses (never mind that they are excellent human beings, ones that would ashame many jws)....we also have to keep from falling in love with a pioneer or bethelite (if you are not one, because he or she will not give you the time of day) or from falling in love with a mere publisher ( if you are a pioneer , because the elders will suggest to let it go, and they will try and try until you give it up)( i've witnessed a huge case...that ended in a bethelite and a pioneer dying, litterally) isn't that appaling?

Again, starts to look like their real 'value' is in population control.

moral dilemna
by zanex ini have been df'd for a good long time and have gone/going through the different stages of the healing process but i dont think that i am anywhere to giving up all of my deep-seated anger and hostility that i continue to have.
i have gotten attatched to it, ironically enough.
my moral and maybe somewhat ethical delimmna is: i am in a service provider position and i provide translation services for members of a specific community of interest...problem is that a certain person has come into my focus of the world...an elder.......a great many bones in my body want to manipulate and maneuver his life into the palm of my hand....then crush him.

Wow, jgnat, good words and good ideas.
Okay, here's mine (for whatever they're worth):
I was thinking that you might just chuckle a little one day and let him know that you're pretty grateful for the day when you finally realized that the WTS was definitely NOT for you.
'But', you might say, 'some people apparently like that sort of thing.'
THEN, depending on how that goes, you might let him know that you're available if he ever wants to talk to somebody. OR you might just tell him that you'll be praying for him.
Or both.
(Warning: Tact has never been my forte.)

Here is a weird one for you.
by freedom96 ini have had two very interesting yet weird experiences in the last couple of years, and would like some opinions on them.. i had a customer come into my store about 1 1/2 years ago.
long story will be cut short.
as we are talking, he says, "you are a good man, you care about people.

Careful.
The WTS would think that anyone with almost ANY level of 'intuition' is demonic. Or evil. Or at the very least, WRONG.
How could they not?
Growing up a JW, I would have to say that is one horrible thing they managed to do to me. They shamed me out of my intuitions - about people and life and situations and a gazillion other things.
Took a long, long time and lots and lots of hard work to get them back.
