Were you told to give till it hurts? (Time, contributions etc)

i remember hearing many times from the platform, and especially the assemblies, that we had to give our valuable things to jehovah till it hurt - and if it didn't hurt, we weren't struggling enough.. especially contributions - did we give till we hurt or did we give out of our surplus?

they love to use the example of the widow's mite to guilt us.. one co said that "some people only give jehovah 10 hours a month!

" - can you imagine that?

Yep, my mom gave till it hurt her kids inheritance. She gave until my father would have turned over in his grave. She gave until the society asked her can you really afford to this.

To the tune of $200,000.00.

Many here have read this before from me, but for those who were not aware.........get the widows, because they don't know what to do with funds, she lost $10,000.00 investing with a brother who was a professional investment counseler not one month after my father died. She feels much safer with the society.......God help me keep my temper.

Do you have any phobias?

do you have any phobias jw related or not?

i personally don't have much except having to go through very narrow spaces where i can barely fit in that freaks me out and i also fear very hot weather like over 38 degrees celsius as if it will give me a heat stroke.

Spiders... I don't know where it came from. Here in Florida we have what are called wolf spiders and that they are. Close to the size of your hand and they JUMP when you go for 'em.

My dad was on crutches before he died and their was one of those stinking spiders in his hall way. He had been trying to get him for weeks. He spotted him and tried to nail him with his crutch. He fell, broke his hip and thats when they found the bone cancer. While in the hospital, I got a big jar, and bought a black large stuffed spider and put him in it. I brought it to my dad and told him I had Nailed The Sucker. My dad never laughed so hard, as he had killed spiders his entire life for me.

I cannot even be in the same room with any spider of any size.

Was Being A Witness, All THAT Bad???

When I was young and our entire family was in, it use to be a lot a fun. Over any holiday we had huge family get togethers with big dinners and I had at least 20 cousins near my age that would come and visit or we them. As we got older, and some moved and sold everything to brace for the big A, time together became more precious and festive.

Vacations centered around assemblies where we all gathered. Usually Minneapolis. A nice long camping trip usually followed suit to the Rockies, Badlands, Black Hills of South Dakotah, etc.

After 1975 it all fell apart. 4 of my 5 uncles were elders. My father (an inlaw) was also one. So when we had the reunions we kids would listen to hours of debating of the society's doctrines, ideas, teachings and rumours, etc.

One uncle resigned after someone was DF'd in his congregation and they committed suicide. He voted against the DFing but was out numbered. He wound up with a bleeding ulcer with half his stomach removed and left for many years. His kids, my cousins left. They were the first. As things happened each left on their own accord. I have one uncle left in and my mother.

As we cousins grew older the worse it became for all of us. Now, most are out if not all and we still get a thrill out of seeing one another and going over the same things our parents did, only now we discuss the damage to our lives.

i have posted this under various topics but it just keeps getting skipped over.

i don't care how many times the wtbs denies the 1975 predictions, if a member of the gb told his good friends, and they in turn told their friends doesn't that amount to over riding anything written prior to and after 1975?.

the po in our hall was in his 50's and a very good friend of knorr's.

nobody ever said that the end was coming in 1975.. all the hype about this date that has continued all the way down through today came from a talk in the early 70's by fred franz.

in this talk, franz pointed out the significance of the 7 creative days and how they correspond with 1,000-year time intervals.. he then said, "could the end come in 1975?

there's so much wrong with jehovah's witnesses from their rigid legalism to their faux love, but let's call a spade a spade about the 1975 thing..

My husband has gone to bed, but feels the original poster was like an old man going 35 MPH in the 70MPH zone. Just looking for a reaction from some one and he got what he wanted.

Question: Demons

growing up, i remember hearing stories from my own parents and others in the congregation about experiences with demons.

sister x wore a t-shirt that she purchased at a second hand store and the demons attached themselves to the shirt and gave her problems.

certain movies and/or cds would give a family problems.

Ladybug, since I was a little girl I have had terrible demonic experiences.

They stopped when I left the JW's "in my mind for good"....after I was about 35 years old.

I will tell you this, there is no one that can convince me they were not real or did not happen. It was physical and mental.

2 things stand out for me. When I was a little girl, I use to sleep with my cat. I was petting the cat and suddenly the cat turned to iron (like a door stop) and out of the corner of the room came a white aberation telling me to hate god, over and over again.

I started screaming for my parents.

The other was when I was young teenager and we had someone at bethal come and stay at our home. They were given my bedroom and I was to sleep on a mattress downstairs.

After watching the slide show, I slipped into that bed and suddenly it was lifting off the floor and spining. I KID YOU NOT. I screamed and screamed, my mom and dad came running down the stairs and the damn thing landed. They did not question what happened as I had just layed down.

I had many more horrific experiences but those 2 stand out. Don't mean to scare you. To this day I do not sleep well.

I get up 4 to 5 times a night, to go out and smoke. The only difference is I have two beautiful dogs that get up and watch over me.

Take care....you'll be ok. Its only while your in the JW's this crap happens as far as I am concerned.

The PO in our hall was in his 50's and a very good friend of Knorr's. He went to visit him in 1974 and Knorr firmly told him Armageddon was going to start in 1975. The PO wasa good friend of my father's. It was passed on to my Dad. I will not repeat what I have written in other threads, but I do believe this deserves some attention.

After 1975 came and went my Mom still has letters she wrote to the Society quoting Knorr to the PO and the society's response. She has refused to let anyone see these letters.

I don't care what has been written in publications, a member of the GB ie: (Knorr) was running around saying 1975 was it.

OK this is the last time I am going to post this.

Knorr as a member of the governing body was a very good friend of the PO in our hall. That PO visited Knorr in 1974.

Knorr told this good friend Armegeddon was going to arrive in 1975. There is no question about this conversation, as it was relayed to my Father who was a very good friend of the PO. It was to remain HUSH HUSH, Woosh woosh.

My parents, made extensive plans to survive, whispered things to various relatives who promptly sold out and ran for the hills in various locations. Such as North Dakotah, and the wilds of Wisconsin.

After the big A did not come about, my parents were furious. My dad left and my mother ....well that's another story.

I do not ever, ever, want to hear anyone DENY 1975 again. It was predicted, everyone held their breath, sold out, and waited.

Finally told the family

while at the great corporate monster we call walley world, i ran into my uncle and aunt.

all of my family with the exception of my parents are not and have never been in the truth.

because of this i never really saw them much growing up.

Its always nice to hear a postivie experience with family members no matter who they are. Thanks for posting this.

My husband also has bouts of Asthma where he cannot talk. He was prescribed a great medication and has had no problems since with coughing while talking.

It's Called Benzonatate... 200mg 4 times a day.......He literally could not produce one sentence without hacking up a storm before this.
