i know it sounds crazy but i am having more fun with this than any other hobby.. i joined cornell university's: http://www.birds.cornell.edu/pfw/.
the fights between the squirrels and jays is hilarious to watch, and i get new species every day.
i finally put out food on the ground for the squirrels and they are dive bombed by the birds, making them jump with about 3 feet in the air with surprise.. the birds and squirrels have become so tame they don't panic when i come out to fill the feeders.

Outlaw that was so funny about your dog and Jays. I have taught my hundred pound dobe to just sit and watch....no bark, no chase. It's killing him.
He obeys until the squirrels start fighting with each other, ....he can't contain himself when that happens. They run so fast, his instincts over power him. I can call him off, but let him go because I know he can't catch them.
I have had Jays attack me, when I was trying to save their off spring from drowning in my swimming pool!

Cantleave,
I am fascinated with Birds of Prey too. We have a falcon or hawk of some sort, but I have not been able to identify him yet. He calls almost all day long.
We also have many vultures, and I think an eagle. At night, if I go out with my dog I have heard owls, and felt the rush of their wings go past. There is no sound....but there is no question an owl has just swooped.
Have fun with the birdwatching! So much more relaxing than attending meetings!

Finally Free,
There are plenty of stray cats in my neighborhood....and I have one myself. Birds are smart....you know that.... owning one as a pet!
Between the squirrel warnings and the bird warnings, mine doesn't have a chance. I use to have an African Grey, and he loved when I would set him outside in his cage to watch the birds. It was like he was part of the group. He'd mimic all the calls.
It would be fun for both of you!

The birds and squirrels have become so tame they don't panic when I come out to fill the feeders. In fact, they seem to wait for refills!
Anyway, just a silly post for nature lovers.
I also have a whirl the squirrel bird feeder, which the squirrels have learned they can't feed from but if they whirl long enough they can get some bird seed thrown to the ground. Its just too funny. I'Ve posted a link before but for others who haven't seen it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NocRG3r2zBw&feature=related

Beks, try Kendall Jackson's Reserve Chardonnay. Very Smooth.
As for me, I'm drinking red. Fetzer's Cabernet.

every year i like to try something a little different, but tend to go back to my favorite...whats yours?.
i use 1/2 pepperidge farm seasoned bread crumbs and 1/2 corn bread and add the following".
2 onions chopped and at least 5 stalks celery chopped sauteed in a cup of butter.
Thank god some can't stand Rachel Ray....that voice sends me over the edge, and if you can cook an entire meal in 30 minutes, ...it's mac and cheese in a box, and lettuce out of a bag.
Giada, or who ever she is I cannot stand either...her recipes usually stink. (I've tried a few....never again)
I've made many a good recipe from Ina and Paula Dean. Tyler's Ultimate has also come up with some great stuff. Everyone else...PEEEE UUUUU!
Those two Neelys are ridiculous, flirting, and making stupid comments. I made her chocolate cake....it was horrible, no one would eat it and I threw it out.
I too love iron chef.
Thanks for all your input.

that is the question.. the turkey that is.
i've brined for 2 years now, but am not sure if i want to do that this year.
anyone else brine their birds?.
Black Swan,
I brined for a couple of years and gave it up. I thought it was pulling out impurities, etc.
All it did was make an extra big pot and mess for me to clean. I noticed no difference in the bird.

hi all, i'm still pretty new here, but i wanted to talk about something more substansive than low quality generic soda brands (my first post and my logon name).. of all the negative side effects of my dub past, the one that still haunts me the most is my complete inability to develop any sort of depth in my relationships with others.
i'm not one to blame all my personal problems on the wbts, but i can't help but feel that it was a significant contributing factor.
i still hate talking about my past, and i work very hard to hide all aspects of my jw past from anyone i meet.
Hi lemon Lime...
I totally understand what you are posting about.
I tend to not trust anyone, have few friends, and anyone new I assume will eventually dump me. So I don't invest in relationships at all. My own family and entire community I grew up with was able to throw me out, why wouldn't a stranger do it sooner?
People I have made friends with get upset that I don't maintain the relationship.
Its extremely hard. My family has changed their minds but, I still don't trust them.....tomorrow they may get word to dump me like yesterday's garbage.
It's a horribly lonely way to live, but I trust very few people in my life.
