i can remember one time in particular from when i was a teenager that still makes me laugh today.. when i was younger i used to go out in service on a regular basis during the week when i had summer break.
one time when i met for service there were only two other people that showed up.
One evening my finace showed up at our house to go to the meeting with us, I was not allowed to ride to the meeting in his car alone with him even though the hall was only minutes away because and I quote.
"I can name you ten kids that are alive today because they were conceived on the way to the kingdom hall!"
I heard this silly rant the entire brief period that I dated until my expediant marraige at 17.

I've drank ice tea all my life and currently drink about 3/4 gallon a day.
My recipe is put 15 teabags in a clean gallon jug. Fill the jug up with HOT tap water. Let sit on the counter until it cools to room temp and then put it in the fridge. No bitterness at all.
Up north here you cannot find brewed ice tea anywhere, restaurants only serve the powder crap. No wonder few people up here drink ice tea!

after all the negative reviews on here and elsewhere when this movie came out, i forego going to see it in the theater.
i rented it today and watched it, and i must say i regret not seeing it in the theater.
it was based much more on the characters and their motivations in this movie than in the last movie, but it was very interesting.
The x-files were a big hit with me and my daughters from episode one.
That show was good season after season.
I remember that i finally convinced my uber-dub friend to finally watch the show after going on and on about it for some time.
Well when she finally decided to try it, yeah, you guessed it, it was the momma-breeded peacocks wonderful-wonderful episode.
She never watched it again.
The circus freaks show was my all time fav too!
in terms of faith i have decided to give the invisible characters a rest for the time being.
the last set i had weren't really adding any value, and right now i'm happy with more rational answers to life's mysteries.. in my opinion religion was an early attempt to answer these mysteries and so inevitably we are accelerating towards a post-religious world.
when technology allows us to extend our lives as long as we wish, the need for salvation via invisible magic diminishes.it seems to me that religion is deeply influenced by parental authority and cultural norms.

the baby is known only as baby binn according to the news report i just saw on wane channel 15 in fort wayne.. she was born premature, and her blood count is low.. the local liason elder - richard dellinger - made a couple of polite policy statements in front of a camera.
he quoted acts and said that 'the parents have taken a stand - therefore whatever the courts rule - the parents will not be held accountable by god' [or substance].
he, of course is praising that 'alternate choices' of treatment have been used.

I tore the cards into the tiniest pieces i could, I set them on fire, I stomped up and down on the ashes, all the time bawling my eyes out. That was a very bad day.

If they truly loved their child more than they loved themselves, they would agree to the blood transfusion, even if they themselves completely believed in the JW demands. That way, their child would live, and would NOT be held responsible, while the parent would accept all responsibility. Even if the parent were disfellowshipped, wouldn't it be worth it? Creepier still, even if the parent thought that they themselves might not be resurrected... they would know that their child would be guilt-free.
Baba, This is not how I felt as a JW. IF my child were to die for want of a transfusion, I would know that he/she would have a free ticket into the new system. If he/she lived, there was always the chance that they would leave da troof and have no hope at all.
The most loving, selfless thing I could do would be to let my child die, and I am deeply ashamed to say i would have.
i don't quite understand why you call it commenting.. when i attended meeting the question at end were read.. when people "commented" it was never a real comment.. it was just reading back word for word a sentence or two from the paragraph that answered the question.. i would think "commentary" would be something you put in your own words and give a personal statement about it.. .
why do you call it "comments" when it is more like reciting?.

It was so insulting to our intelligence to read that crap back word for word. Especially when that silly paragragh had just been read aloud. And then you have to wait for the microphone to be handed to you so that positively everyone in the hall can here you parrot what is right in front of their own face.
In the past I would only comment when I had something new to add, but in the 1980's thay started insisting that we stick to the paragragh and don't add anything else. That's when I stopped answering. My bookstudy conducter would encourage me to answer, saying that my imput benefitted the others, but how is that possibly? If I deviated from what was written he would just cut me off.
the recent threads by pistoff got me thinking that some youtube vids of the hard line positions being taught from the platform would be pretty cool.

2. I've seen may people video tape the conventions before. Just find a nice place to sit where the videocamera is out of the way, put it on a tripod and go to town. Nobody is going to ask any questions and if they do...

I haven't been to an assembly in over 14 years, so maybe things have changed, but in my area any kind of recording device was strictly forbidden and the attendants would put a stop to it. In the seventies and earlier you could do it, but they stopped allowing it in the eighties.
