But the ATF did an appallingly bad job if they had any intention at all of saving children.
Now if they just wanted to go in there and squash koresh like a bug, regardless of casualtys, then they did everything right.

(a little background info before i ask my question...).
my sister-in-law (non-jw), who manages a popular chain restaurant near a kingdom hall, just found out that my wife and i have recently faded, so she decided to get something off her chest the other day... you guessed it: she wanted us to know that jws are the worst customers ever!
she then told us some really embarrassing stories about how jws would request a table for 15 to 20 people (after a sunday meeting) and then (when the bill came) some of the jws would start deliberating amongst themselves on whether or not the waiter was diligent or not (to justify the low tip he was getting anyway).
I agree Amelia, we would never order alcohol or appetizers, because it was just to expensive, and we would have to order the cheaper things on the menu. But others in the group would invariably order several drinks and the upper end items like steak and seafood, and then at the end want to divide it up evenly, because it was "easier".
Those times I would grab the check and say "math isn't hard give me a sec". Our share would be a fraction of what the others spent.
There was no way I was going to pay for the luxuries of others, when I did not allow myself or my kids to have them. And if I couldnt afford a decent tip, I would not eat there, theres always cheaper food if your strapped.
my two oldest brothers, jim and ron, were coerced into baptism when they were but 10 and 11 years old.. .
they were indoctrinated heavily, of course, and they tried to toe the line and be good little jw boys as best two unruly fatherless boys could.
the nature of a boy won out and they both got into some mischief about a year later.
This just breaks my heart.
Shunning and publicly shaming children is extreme abuse, there is no other way of looking at it.
I remember growing up JW, that we were frequently reminded that we shouldn't think to much of ourselves, not get a big head. It was OK to shame and embarress your children in front of others, just so he/she wouldn't get puffed up with pride.
The GB are clueless, and have no natural affection.

assuming you know about a person because of that person's job is limiting and can result in unfair stereotypes about your fellow human beings.. assuming you are a product of your job, rather than that your job is simply something you, the individual, choose to do, limits your own perceptions of yourself.. you can excel at your job without letting your job define who you are by putting aside the distraction of thought to immerse yourself in the doing of your work.. cultivating a degree of detachment and perspective on your job can help you find ways to perform your job better.
it can also make it clear when it is time for you to move on.. zazen breaks at your desk during the day can help keep your day and your duties in perspective..
greetings to all: several months ago, i started a thread concerning the book "the secret", by rhonda byrne.
but, i'd like to start this thread, regarding an aspect of the book.
among several authors and "authorities" who are quoted in the secret is a person by the name of loral langemeier.
God delusion is right, it only works in wealthy advantaged countries.
But its a nice, feel good idea, and it is always a good idea to think postive, and only surround yourself with positive people that can help you achieve your goal. Whats so secret about that?
BTW Dale Carnegie tought the same stuff back in the 1920's. "the secret" people simple repackaged the same principals in an overpriced, sensational and mystical way.

The officials totally botched that whole thing, the siege just reinforced what Koresh had taught his members, just like it would the witnesses.
The ATF needs to get an education, their ignorant belief that brute force wins all, killed many innocents.

To be fair, the brothers rebuilt the homes of uninsured JWs too, free of charge.
But you do the math, it costs the society nothing, so even if only a fraction of the brothers had insurance, its still all profit.
Disasters hurt people, but it makes the watchtower richer and stronger.

What Uninformed said is true, it infuriates me.
I have family that have devoted countless hours to helping the brothers after the katrina disaster. All their weekends, all there spare time time when they could have been working to pay there own bills that were piling up.
And the society sits back and collects the insurance checks.
Donated labor(from the brothers), donated materials (frome the brothers), the society donates nothing, they simply collect the money.
Sound like a great money maker to me, as long as other peoples suffering does not bother you.
