the thread about angels in the ministry reminded me of this.
there was a lot of rural territory in the congregation that i attended, which meant a lot of houses with dogs out running loose.
some of these dogs were fairly vicious.
I feared no dog or any other animal out in service, I knew Jah had my back.
I remember many times the fearful adults would stay safely in the car, but since i didn't mind, they would send me to the door by myself, even when I was only 7 or 8 years old.
I guess they didn't beleive in Jah as much as I did.
Dogs tend to respect you if you have confidence........thats what protected me, not my imaginary Daddy in the sky.

JW's no nothing about history, if they were to pick up a history book they would learn that we here in the USA have a better standard of living then most kings in the past.
did you ever wonder why 'men of god' were allowed to have concubines and use prostitutes in the old testament,and being told by your jw elder or study conductor something like: 'god's will was to fill the earth, so he allowed men to have more than one wife or concubine to fulfill his purpose...' ?.
then by this same reasoning why would god have a problem with homosexuality at this point in time-the earth has been filled, in fact it's almost too full in some areas.
so doesn't homosexuality now make sense....consistently speaking?
John doe you are correct, but you are basically describing the same scenario that I described whereas more powerful men get wives and the less powerful do not.
In a scenario that you described, you suggested that only rich men could afford wives so unless thet are allowed multiples, then population growth would slow down. However, if those wealthy men were allowed only one wife, do you really think there would be all these leftover women that remaned childless there whole lives? They may not get married but they would still be having children, with the poor men, that's just human nature. The idea that poor men and unmarried women would remain virgins there intire lives just isn't believable.
Consider also cases where a very wealthy man has vast numbers of wives, I think the chances of any women getting pregnant decreases with each new wife. Think king david here, do you think those 1000 wives and concubines each had good chances of getting pregnant? Each of those women would have been very lucky to have just one child, but if they had there own husband they could be having a dozen.
Polygamy does not increase the rate of population growth, it simply increases the population of the polygamist.

Hospice is wonderful. I have to share a story.
A day before my grandfathers death, a hospice nurse came out to bath him. By this time he was in a coma, and grandma was a mess, when the nurse asked for soap, grandma vaguely pointed to the bathroom and said "in the cabinet".
Hospice nurse gave grandpa a bath and as she was finishing up grandma had calmed down enough to come over and help finish drying him off. Thats when she glanced at the bar of soap the nurse used.... it was flea soap for the dog. When garndma pointed it out the poor nurse looked mortified, but we all just laughed. We assured her that it was no problem, we all knew that grandpa would have thought it funny too. He was now ready to walk flealess into the new system.
i know that has probably been covered ad infinitum on jwd.
so...... if jehovah is omnipotent, then there is nothing he can't do and nothing he doesn't know.. and, according to jws (as well as most other religions), god is love.
therefore he had to have known, even before creating all of creation, what would happen.
Why did jah create free will when he knew it would cause more then 99% of the population not serve him?
If Jah is the creator, then he is responsible for all that has happened in the world.

First, lets despell the myth that polygamy produces more offspring.
Approx. 50% of the population is female. Dozens of women getting pregnant by one man does not increase the population any faster then each of those women getting pregnant by individual men.
Now if you slaughter other cultures, and steal there women, you can make your tribe grow faster. But this does not populate the world any faster.
in another thread (i forget which), someone mentioned that somebody committed suicide at bethel.
is this true and if so, how often does it happen?

My understanding is that if you die at bethel, the society claims your body.
it's among the papers you sign when you join up.
So the family cannot even claim their childs body.
And the society can put a good spin on anything suspicious.
since my strategy for flying under the radar is to put some face time in at meetings, i found it neccessary to develop coping techniques so the top of my skull doesn't fly off from the insanity that is the jws.. profanity is one of my favorites.. if the bullshit factor gets to the point during the meeting where i begin to feel like barfing (happens a lot), i slip off to the ladies loo and lock myself in a stall.
since no one can see me, i'll sit on the toilet and flip the bird at the ceiling and the cackling jw hens that come into the bathroom.. when the final 'amen' is sounded, i scoop up my purse and books and rocket out the door.
once in my car and with engine started and radio going, i start cussing.
I've found cussing to be a great coping technique too.
Yes it is immature, but it feels great.
I'll grow up some other time.
