The Day I had an Epiphany

my eyes opened in more ways than one.

as i lay in bed that sunday morning, i knew i was never again going to rise hurriedly to get myself and the kids dressed and fed for field service.

i was actually feeling relieved and wanted to just turn over and go back to sleep, certain and content in my decision.. the day before, i had stood at the end of the block, after working a territory filled with barking dogs and people sleeping in after a hard days work week, and thinking, "never again".

I just knew it as if He was telling me Himself.

I prayed pretty much non-stop for about 2 years straight.

I had reached the desperation point, my life was so miserable and unhappy, I knew what I was doing was not working and I needed to do something different. So I prayed, prayed, prayed.

Jah finally answered my prayers, he said to stop doing what your doing and expecting different results. If what your doing isn't working, you need to do something else.

Pretty simple stuff, but hard for the JW mind to accept, because the Society tells you to just keep doing more. As if doing more, of whats not working, will finally make it work.

A Sphere is Not a Circle

this thread was inspired by the poster here with that moniker.

that name, for the first time in my life, caused me to think deeply about the scriptural real meaning of the phrase used in isaiah, often used by biblical defenders to show it's inspiration by god.. i googled the phrase, and among other hits, found this little blogspace with comments that echoed my thought on the matter.. http://www.youngausskeptics.com/2008/12/what-you-really-think-a-sphere-is-a-circle-you-really-think-that/.

You bet it's not! My teacher made that very clear the first day of geometry class in grade school, yeah, grade school. Those were her exact words "a sphere is not a circle", she said it rather sternly and she pointed her finger at us for emphases.

Then I went to the Kingdom hall and some guy from the stage said that the bible calling the earth a circle was proof that it was inspired.

So, now, as an adult, I realize why my teacher used such emphasis, apparently, lot's of people don't know this simple fact.

"Encouragement" from my mother-in-law to my wife

my wife did not attend the holiday celebrations with my daughter and i and instead chose to spend the time with her parents.

she told her mom how she saw nothing wrong with the holiday celebrations and my m-i-l told her that she was right in that the things people do this time of year are very beautiful indeed.

however, it is the reason why people do these things why we are not suppose to partake in them.

I agree with Outlaw, those scriptures she quoted have nothing to do with holidays.

Is your wife aware of that? It's really easy for JW's to not notice that sort of thing.

i am going to answer it with my own experience.

before i do that, i want to discuss what we are told through the literature and the instruction that is given during meetings, assemblies and conventions, for the reasons why people leave the truth.. the watchtower of 15 november 2008, in the article help them return without delay indicates people leave because of the following:.

What if an individual has a problem with WTS teachings? This is of course, according to the watchtower a problem with the individual and not with them.

This statement is just priceless, it says volumns.

my 76 year old mother and her 94 year old mother (my grandmother) are still regular pioneering.

if anyone should understand helping the less fortunate it should be these life time pioneers.

however, this is a conversation i had with my them yesterday.... me: mom, the girls (my 2 teenage daughters) and i have volunteered to serve breakfast and lunch at the soup kitchen new year's eve.

A JW couple I knew became foster parents so they could get custody of her 8 year old half brother who was living in a Catholic orphanage.

When their congregation PO found out, he advised them to stop the proceedings and said "adopting kids is not how we save people, we do it by going door to door".

According to him, little bro was just SOL and the couple should spend their time more wisely in the door to door work.

They did not heed his advice.

on another thread i stated that i didnt get braces for my teeth as a child as my parents believed that the ns would be here soon.

i am very glad that i did it as an adult.

I guess the times have changed because I know many sisters that have undergone "improvements" to a certain area of their body

With those improvements you get instant results, plently of time to enjoy even if the big A is only weeks away!

Plus you can pay for them over time, so you get all the bennies now, but won't ever have to pay for it!

Way to make the best of what little time we have left!

Maybe times have changed, but in the past, particularly pre 1975, it was often considered a sign of spiritual weakness to get braces for your kids.

In the US at least, braces are expensive (usually thousands of dollars) and an out of pocket expense, insurance does not cover it. They also usually require months or years for the process to complete.

So no true believer is going to fork out thousands, for something that Jah will take care of in an instant. And no doubt will take care of long before it's time for the braces to come off.

Just another way the Society has devalued and marginalized the lives of it's most faithful adherents.
