Logical Fallacies Jws Use to Win Debates
by maputo95 inplease feel free to contribute any experience you may have on dishonest tricks jws use to put their fallacious, moronic agenda across.
i have not touched upon 'red herrings' and 'circular arguments' below:.
the best way to ge through to a jw is to pray for him.

Ex-Jehovah's Witness Survey...
by Tuesday inhey everyone.
another idea came to me tonight while discussing the pew forum survey about how only 37% of jehovah's witnesses remain in the religion from childhood.
the recent watchtower article where it says the majority of people who leave the religion do so in order to commit sin was brought up predictably.

Why Aren't You At Least FAding?
by shamus100 init doesn't take much, just stop going.
you don't even have to do it all at once; maybe do one meeting a week for a month, then one meeting a month for two months, then just stop going.. what's going to happen?.
nothing.. getting a shepherding call... q: what's wrong brother twinkletoes?

I have to disagree with you on that one. Its no secret that there is a shortage of men in congregations, or maybe I should say "willing" men. As an Elder, I can't just start randomly missing meetings.
So you can't stop because they need you so much?
They have lied to you, and used you, but you feel like you owe them something.
That's what high control groups do, they make you feel guilty, unworthy, and beholden.

An Apology
by XJW4EVR inas a christian, i would like to apologize for the stupid and insensitive remarks made by pat robertson.
instead of throwing stones from his ivory tower in virginia, he should have taken a que from the one he claims to follow who when asked about the murders of galileans making their sacrifices by pilate said, "do you think that these galileans were worse sinners than all the other galileans because they suffered this way?
but unless you repent, you too will all perish.

So what did Patty say this time?
I'm guessing it was something like "the Haitians brought this all upon themselves"
He's a shock jock minister, they need to say stuff like that to keep people talking about them.
He's like a troll, the only way to get rid of him is to ignore him.

Getting my GED so I can go to college
by noni1974 ini've been trying to get my ged for a few months now.
i bought some books and have been working through them on my own.
i came to a road block working on my own, and i decided to go for free classes offered by my local school district.

After exiting the JW's I had to get my GED to continue school too.
I did the pre tests and like you, my only weak point was math.
Which was kind of funny because I was alwasy good in math and had been working as a book keeper for years!
So I studied a little math and passed with no problems.
Then at the age of 35, with two kids, an x-husband and an x-religion I was the proud owner of a high school diploma.
Good Luck Noni, your on your way!

Jesus Curses the Fig Tree
by cameo-d ini felt this subject deserved it's own thread.. .
quote:.
this jesus character is recorded in two books of the bible as vandalising a fig tree for reasons that make absolutely no sense to me at all.. i have mentioned this stupidity a couple of times on this forum and the only attempt anyone had at explaining his actions completely ignored grammar and context.. .

The only "reasonable" explanation your going to get is going to be several pages long with no paragraphs and as obtuse as anything the society has ever written.

A Sphere is Not a Circle
by AK - Jeff inthis thread was inspired by the poster here with that moniker.
that name, for the first time in my life, caused me to think deeply about the scriptural real meaning of the phrase used in isaiah, often used by biblical defenders to show it's inspiration by god.. i googled the phrase, and among other hits, found this little blogspace with comments that echoed my thought on the matter.. http://www.youngausskeptics.com/2008/12/what-you-really-think-a-sphere-is-a-circle-you-really-think-that/.
found it interesting.. jeff.

One should also consider the fact that the idea of the spherical earth did not come from the Bible, and no one who came to said conclusion got the idea from the Bible. If the Bible really said it, then it would have been taught by the Church all along.
OMG, sometimes the most obvious stuff goes by un noticed.
That last line say volumns.

OMG... a little girl with PTSD.
That's what I was thinking.
JW's and other fundy's think this sort of thing is cute.
They can't even tell when a child is being traumatized.

The Day I had an Epiphany
by journey-on inmy eyes opened in more ways than one.
as i lay in bed that sunday morning, i knew i was never again going to rise hurriedly to get myself and the kids dressed and fed for field service.
i was actually feeling relieved and wanted to just turn over and go back to sleep, certain and content in my decision.. the day before, i had stood at the end of the block, after working a territory filled with barking dogs and people sleeping in after a hard days work week, and thinking, "never again".

ASphereisnotaCircle: "Jah finally answered my prayers, he said to stop doing what your doing and expecting different results."
Are you sure Jah said that, or was it something you overheard on Dr. Phil?
No, actually it was something I read on the back of someones t-shirt at the gym.
But at the time, I was convinced it was the answer that I was begging Jehovah for.
And it was still a good answer.
