i'm trying to help my friend's non-jw family deal with a domestic violence situation with their recently turned jw sister.
i didn't know it was going to turn into a dv situation (started as something else) so i scrounged up an old reasoning book and a few websites to give the family an idea of what they were dealing with in regards to jws.. now it is clearly dv and i do not have any current resources to help them reason with their family member.
i did a forum search and came up with a few threads, found one from 2001 that had a few wt/aw quotes but was hoping maybe someone had something else in the past 10 years where the jw literature references dv.
Typically, the first thing an elder will ask a battered wife is "what did you do that made him hit you?"
Then they drop this pearl of wisdom "dont do that again"
Then they proceed to advise the sister on how to be a better wife.
Sorry I don't have any quotes from the literature for you, but in real life, thats how it is handled.
i was at a used book store recently, and ran across something that had me in stitches.. this book was on the shelf... carefully "studied", yellow highlighter graced many of the pages, their yellow marks straight as an arrow by the edge of a ruler.. i m not sure how this person was able to "study" it since it didn't have any questions at the bottom of the page.. must have been one of those "independent thinkers" .
i didn't read the book, i think i know what i need to know by now.. .
As we were fading from the org, my ex and I began reading lots of self help books.
All the books my ex read would be soaked in highlighter, literally more then 50% of the text would be glowing yellow.
Strangely enough, he never did the highlighter thing as a witness, all his study copies looked pristine.
But when he found something he actually wanted to study (self help books), he studied it.........Watchtower style.
i have always struggled to understand what prayers god answers and which ones he avoids.
most religions teach that god answers prayers, so people must feel that their prayers are being answered, yet the type of prayers seem to be very selective.. .
if god answered broad based prayers, then children in third world countries would not be starving, so he does not seem to interfere in global issues.
However, when a person is diagnosed with cancer, the doctor does not change the person’s chance of survival based on whether they are an atheist or Christian.
too much reading this weekend i think..... my blood is boiling between the two books.
the mental part is disturbing me greatly about the truths in brainwashing and cultism, and coc is infuriating me about the whole attitude of the jw org.. i cannot stop thinking of my family who i have not talked to in 6 months.
not a single word....i keep thinking of how and when it would be right and the best way to talk to them.
Reading CoC was one of the most painful things I have ever done.
I would read a page or two and then start crying uncontrolably.
My poor husband (never a JW) kept suggesting that I stop reading it, it upset him that it upset me so much. He would hover around me and try to fix what he could not fix.
And with all the crying, it took a long time to read (poor hubby)
yeah, I thought I would explode too.
terry and i were able to get togather today for a pleasent visit.
we disscussed a number of things.
one thing we talked about was "near misses" we experienced over the years.

But that's the best damn story i have heard in a long time.

i really can't stand it when i can't go to someones house just because they are "worldy".
why can't i just be a normal teenager and be able to choose my friends whom ever they may be?
i told my mom i don't have any witness friends then she told me "well you better find some or else your gonna have some serious problems".
