The struggle to avoid being bitter
by crazycate ini dont want to be bitter.
but i now understand why some or many ex-jws are bitter.
i remember when i was an active zealous jw thinking, if someone wants to leave, go ahead and leave.

I can get really bitter
Then I remember how lucky I am in others ways.
Even as an ordinary, cult raised, mind control survivor, poorly educated, middle class, american female, Im still wealthier and have more freedoms and oportunity then most women in the world and I know it.
Bitter is a normal and valid reaction to what was stolen form us. And in the begining the bitterness can be overwhelming, but eventually it will fade, as the good things in your life begin replacing all the bad things we had as a witnesses.

I think it should be noted here that "mistake" that the COG corrected was purely doctrinal.
I see nothing in that video that says they feel their cult behavior was a "mistake"
They still believe in tithing, and excomunicating, so would someone please explian to me how they have changed for the good?
I saw nothing that said they were wrong about shunning doctors and they regret all the members who died and suffered because of it. (though I only watched the firt 50 minutes, so maybe they did redeem themselves in the end)
Above, the poster Ding asked a very valid question, that has been ignored. I cant answer it, could someone else who thinks that the COG is so brave and noble please answer it? I woul love to hear an answer.
Anyone?

Yoga......JW view
by confuzzled777 ini needed a place to come vent.
i went to a yoga class last sunday and loved it!!
i am going again tonight with my hubby.

Without yoga, I wake up several times a week in excruciating neck pain that also causes me to vomit uncontrollably over and over again. on those days I cannot even take a sip of water to stay hydrated. Usually it will pass by evening, but sometimes it can carry on for days.
The doctors solution is muscle relaxants and prescription pain killers. Those just make me numb and dumb and still very much in pain.
People who are afraid of yoga because of its spiritual/religeous/demonic side are just plain ignorant. If they suffer with chronic pain, they are avoiding something that could transform their lives.
I am not a "spiritual" person, I believe in logic, science and common sense.
I practice yoga because it is the only thing that gets me out of pain.
Without yoga my six year old would have a mom that was unavailable several days a week.
With yoga she has a mom that is around all week, plus she loves to do the poses with me.

so oompa got df'd this week...
by oompa inno call to invite me to a committee meeting...no notification of deciding i should be df'd....no telling my jw wife of the announcement...not a chance to appeal what i did not even know what was going on...my mini-serve son is devasted....he even researched it....told me to go to page 153-154 of the od book...never heard of it but it is a green hardback given to all who are to be baptized.
wow...the elders broke every rule in this book as to my case.... i have no respect for these men that can take away your jw family without even telling you they are going to.
my jw son has now begged me to meet with my committee...even though there is prob zero chance they can reverse the decision...that chance is from when they let you know...and you have to appeal by letter within 7 days (i cant make this stuff up!!

Wow, I can't even imagine what you must be going through. It never ceases to amaze me how the elders will kick you when your down and then blame it on you.
On the other hand, you uber dub wife must love you, and there must be a tiny, tiny crack in her armor.

He was right!

The COG will be reborn and become bigger and stronger then ever, they will use this event as proof that they have gods direction and backing.
I think these men are sincere, but now they are even more sincere, and more convinced of their correctness.
Kudos to them for fessing up when they discovered their error, but they still believe they are under gods direction and are just as capable of effing up peoples lives.
I am not impressed.
What would impress me would be if they stopped "teaching" other people. They should disqualify themsleves from leading others, but they do not, they still believe in their own authority.
They will continue to mess up peoples lives.

what are the rewards for not being a witness any longer
by Curtains inif the carrot and stick aspect of being jehovahs witnesses upset you how do you reclaim your desire for reward?
i'm assumng that you all agree with me that feeling rewarded is a basic human desire.
how much effort do you think we should put into trying to make our lives rewarding?

Being able to make your own life decisions.
I can't believe how long I let a bunch of ignorameses govern my every move.

My ex and I went to marraige counseling for 8 years while still JW's. At one point our counselor refered to the JWs as a "high control group". That comment really stuck with me. If she had said "cult" I would have just blocked her out, But the term "high control group" got me thinking. That comment was one of the things that helped to open my eyes.
Since leaving the JWs I have tried a number of therapists, with some success, but the being raised in a cult thing is something most therapists just don't understand.
For instance the last one I saw, among other things, had me regress back to my five year old self. Then she told five year old sphere "when you grow up, you wont be a jehovahs witness anymore, you will be able to live your life anyway you want and make your own choices"
Well to a witness child, that is the equivalant of saying, "when you grow up you are going to be a very bad, evil person and you will do bad things and Jehovah will hate you", ... so she wasn't so great.
But over all, I would reccomend counseling, it can be very helpful. Self help books are great too. As the above posters stated, books about toxic parents, addictions and enablers translate very well to the JW dysfunction.
