  ** Church of England Buildings' Significant History **

  i was raised episcopalian.

  thus i am quite fascinated with my roots in the church of england, who in turn has its roots in the roman catholic church.

  many of the church buildings and cathedrals that exist in england today date back to the first millenium after christ and thus were roman catholic at the time they were built.

  The link below shows the St. Mary Magdelene church that is opposite to my old house. I lived here for around six years sharing the place with my brother, the photo was taken from just outside my front door. My house was built in the seventeenth century and was originally the local villages fire station! Horses were kept there to pull the fire cart!

  If you click the below link you will see the Shrewsbury Arms pub that is on the opposite corner to my old house, you can just just make out the building on the left of the photo. My brother still lives there.

  It may sound idyllic living next to a medieval church, however when your trying to relax and want a bit of peace, the last thing you want, is to hear church bells on the hour! Even through the night! You soon get sick of it.

  In the back garden there is an entrance to a passage (now blocked up) that links to the church, which in turn links to White Ladies Priory http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Ladies_Priory , a medieval convent about 2 miles away, who hid Charles II after he fled from the Battle of Worcester. Which in turn is by to Boscobel House http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boscobel_House , where Charles II hid in an Oak.

  All these places were linked to my back garden!

  Brother going baptist

  i have a brother that was a witness for twenty years, all four of us left the witnesses and for the most part are agnostic or atheist.. my brother that is going baptist is going because of a woman, he has always had a problem with not having a personality of his own, he has a very bad temper and never knows when to shut his mouth, he thinks nothing of telling people the most hurtful things and does not see that he has stomped all over someone's feelings.. he is 33 and met a woman in nursing school in wichita.

  they started to date and are now planning on a wedding after only one month.

  another of his flaws, he is very impulsive and a sucker for anything that makes his ego feel good.

  hi everyone, im new.

  i've been feeling a burden on myself for the years that i have been out and i just don't know how to ease it.

  i can't talk about the organization or the people in it to anyone... if i try i immediately feel sick and want to close up and just disappear.

  "Why does America always bomb other countries?", my son asked tonight.

  first of all i do not want to turn this into an american bashing thread, that is not my intention at all.. i would like to hear americans opinions as to what my thirteen year old son asked me tonight.. on the way back from swimming tonight my two sons (13 and 11) and myself started talking about wars.

  my 11 year old was the first to bring it up talking about wwi & ww2.

  we had an interesting conversation about it, then the subject got onto nuclear bombs.

  Paul, You may live here and just say you live in Britain the same as I could be living in Britain and acting like a USA citizen.I see some posters location change from the virgin Islands to Austrialia and Sweden, or Norway

  I live in a small town called Dudley in England.

  If the USA hadn't come to your defence you would speaking German.

  Of course the US was there for us. But that doesn't mean we should back the US up in every decision it makes. It's rather like someone saying we helped you build your house, so you should help us with every house we build in the future.

  philosophical question

  i keep thinking about this when i'm driving but forget to ask when i'm online.

  when prozac came out, i read an article by some "authority" who was debating the wisdom of changing someone's feelings artificially with antidepressants.

  the argument was that it is better to be authentic and depressed than artifically happy and medicated.

  However, my own experience is that it helped me face my problems. I've thought about it off and on ever since then. Is it somehow wrong to chemically restore your brain balance? And if you think so, what's your reason? Or is this a non-issue?

  This is definately not a non-issue.

  For many years i have wondered about whether i suffer from depression. I definately had a nervous breakdown a few years ago. I what you may call self-medicated with a mixture of drink and drugs, which i have posted about on here at length.

  I have recently seen a counseller as i am now sober and clean, he put to me that maybe i have suffered from depression. Something for which i have thought, but have never been diagnosed, mainly because i have never seen a doctor prior to me getting sober. At present i go through periods of days where i just don't want to do anything, but i hold back on asking for medication for this reason, amongst others. I would rather restore my sanity through therapy and sheer grit.

  Something I have learned since I left what is the most devastating of religions is that Sin is a social construct. We human beings are not inherently evil, we are beautiful, loving creatures. We are not born sinners, and we should simply take responsibility for our actions with regards to other humans, not allow a religion or group of people decide what is right or wrong.
  
  We have this one life to live, make the most of it.

  You need to tell your children no matter how bad this country is just be thankful they live here so they question the governments actions.
