I bought my kids a couple of ornaments back from Egypt, nothing God like, just Egyptian. My ex mother in law went around telling everyone that i bought them to bring bad luck into the house and to put demonic influence upon my ex's marriage.

what is the stupidest thing a jw ever told you?
we all know that they say a lot of stupid things, but what really topped the cake?.
for me, it was an elder telling me i was progressing really well when my meeting attendance was down and my field service hours were slipping.

in god s holy word the bible you can find evidence that god s kingdom was not established in 1914. and according to the prophecies it will be estblished later in the future.
and we can not calculate the time point.
in acts 1:7 the apostles asked " lord, are you restoring the kingdom to israel at this time?
Welcome to the board Kosonen.
You will learn alot here. I have learnt that the very date of 607BCE for Jeruselems destruction, which is how the 1914 date is calculated, is wrong. Jeruselem was destroyed in 587BCE, only JW's claim 607BCE, nobody else. Therefore on JW's own teachings 1914 is wrong.
Google it and you will see.

do the jw's officially have a stand on whether there is or can be intelligent physical life outside our planet?
would contact from or evidence of alien life fit in to what jw's believe and teach?
have they paved the way for the possibility that life may be found elsewhere in our solar system - intelligent or otherwise?
I remember many years ago an article mentioning it in the WT study. It mentioned about angels etc. but then i can't remember whether it was the article or the platform saying that we don't know whether there are other civilisations out there. The general consensus was that there could be, but we don't know.

i haven't been to london in about 15 years.
i decided to take my kids for their first outing to see the sights.
i remember as a kid going with my mom and nan, we actually went inside the houses of parliament, went in the house of lords, up downing st, but now with the terrorist threats obviously all thats changed.. there is a definate difference in the security aspect of it, but not enough to take the shine off the experience.. we saw the changing of the guard at buckingham palace, the band playing were the ghurka regiment, something i have never seen before.
I didn't mean Stonehenge and Avery were part of London I just meant that I booked that before I left.
Lol WA, it is funny though that when any Englishman tries to explain where they are from to an American a common response is, "oh your from London ". Even though i live in the Midlands (about 3 hrs away) i tend to give in and say " yes i am". You wouldn't believe how many times that is said, not just me, others will say the same. It's a bit of a running joke.

i used to post here many years ago, back then there was a chat room.
it was good to talk to others instantly.
why has the chat room gone?
I used to post here many years ago, back then there was a chat room. It was good to talk to others instantly. Why has the chat room gone? Is it because there was arguing between posters at the time? Some nights there was intense arguing, other nights it was good.
Would a chat room ever be considered again? Would anyone want one? Perhaps we should petition Simon, all pm him at a certain time, to hand in our petition
Seriously though would a chat room be a good idea if it was moderated? Maybe to do it as some forums do and only have it open at specific times, call it a " meeting schedule ". That way it would be easier to moderate.
I do miss the chat room aspect of this site, maybe others would value one, but i can understand if the reason it was taken off was because of the arguing. If this was the case, and i don't know whether it was, surely there could be ways to moderate it, such as i have described by only opening it up a few times a week.
What does anyone else here think? What do mods and admin think if there was a general consensus for one?

I love the way Americans view everything in England is classed as London

i know in this forum we have some football lovers.
so are you guys getting ready for the euro 2008?
fill up the fridge with beers, send the wife way for a few weeks, call your friends to watch the match.... this is what i call a mans-world.... as for our national team the champions for 2004 we hope the best for them.
Well i have no interest in it this time around. Disgusted England never made it. I will not be watching the game against the USA tomorrow night either.
I wonder how many Americans realise the USA is playing England tomorrow?....Football! not Soccer!, Well said jh

tell me how you feel about spanking your kids - be honest now!!!
have you ever, and under what circumstances?.
what other methods of discipline do you use?
I spanked my children on rare occasions when they we're younger, however i regret this now and feel that there could have been better ways to deal with them.
On the one instance i felt justified. We were driving down the road, my daughter was about 7 at the time and in the front seat. She grabbed hold of the steering wheel, I said to her if she did it again i would smack her. She did it again and i smacked her on the hand. In hindsight i realise that I shouldn't have put her on the front seat.
I was spanked as a child, so i guess i felt this was ok. I do feel now though that spanking is when a parent ' loses it '. For many years i never spanked, until once last year, we went to Barcelona and my youngest (10) was so unruly, he ended up throwing a stick at a parked car, so yes i spanked him. But i regret it and felt as if i had lost it. However it worked, i think it shocked him more than anything.
There are no written rules to parenting and we all make mistakes, learning as we go along. I have learnt along the way and do not believe it is the way forward.

i opened another thread with a similar title and thought it was going to be a discussion about belief in god but it wasn't.
so i started my own.. although i'm not sure of much at the moment (since i had my beliefs whipped out from under me like the floor under my feet) i feel fairly certain about one thing.
there is evidence of intelligent design and beauty in the universe and i don't logically think this is accidental.
I feel similar to you Mickey, i want to read and read. I feel there must be something out there. There is so much beauty in this world for it all to come about by chance.
