I've spent the past hour reading every word of this, and am sitting here astonished. This is a remarkable composition, truly. Your love and sincerity come through from beginning to end; if your mother is willing to read it in its entirety, I can't imagine that it won't rock her world. I hope that the result is positive for you and your family.
This is brilliant and powerful, and so much more than just a letter. Thank you for posting it, just wow.

Appendix on DF in New Book released at Convention 2008
by InquiryMan insome scans have been made regarding blood and birthdays in the new book that was released at this year s conventions.
as could be seen from the index of the book, there is an appendix on the topic of disfellowshipping.
this as a topic that definitely concerns quite a few of this board.

Thanks for posting those scans, NestleBoy.
Does this new wording change or alter whatever the previous "policy" was the last time it appeared in print? If it does, what are the differences, and what (and where) was the previous wording? -

UGH! I was hoping this was a joke but after visiting that link I see it clearly is not. Partial copy and paste from the site:

“Riveting and illuminating. KNOCKING takes us inside the world of Jehovah’s Witnesses in a way that is utterly surprising and moving."
—Anderson Cooper, CNN
KNOCKING opens the door on Jehovah's Witnesses. They are moral conservatives who stay out of politics and the Culture War, but they won a record number of court cases expanding freedom for everyone. They refuse blood transfusions on religious grounds, but they embrace the science behind bloodless surgery. In Nazi Germany, they could fight for Hitler or go to the concentration camps. They chose the camps. Following two families who stand firm for their controversial and misunderstood Christian faith, KNOCKING reveals how one unlikely religion helped to shape history beyond the doorstep.

Anyone with a child in middle or high school, please contact the teacher or school administrator to request that the school NOT participate in this! I am surprised and sickened that this could be showing up in schools and presented in this way. How is that possible, in public schools?? I had no idea about this, thank you for posting this information Gayle. -

My Story - Part 2
by Jeremy C inlike many jw children, i was deeply influenced and motivated by watchtower society artwork depicting the new system of things.
i was profoundly influenced by artwork (particularly in the book: you can live forever in paradise on earth) that portrayed children petting tigers, playing with lion cubs, running through grassy fields with kites, and enjoying care-free lives.
what i now realized about myself is that for a jw to desire such things; and to go through the motions - performing organizationally-programmed activity in order to receive this reward; does not necessarily require a love for god or christ that is any deeper than other religionists.

by winnower inrecently i purchased a sony product at radio shack.

upon closer examination, i saw a very very tiny logo on this raised strip.

Well all of that was certainly an interesting read. I've no comment really about my own opinions on it all, but I do have a question. You wrote...
::want to know how this chip implant will become necessary for you to be included in the New System? You can't get into Paradise without it!::
I understand the polar opposition between this manufactured "paradise" and the "paradise" carrot that the WTS holds out; what I'm trying to understand is how the WTS could or would tie into any of this because, well, doesn't this brand of "paradise" by definition leave all JWs out in the cold? In other words, if JWs believe it is the LACK of "the mark" that will distinguish them and save them, doesn't this scenario you present essentially annihilate them? And why would the WTS be on board with such a plan? Your other thread seems to assert very plainly that you think the WTS is a part of orchestrating it, and that's what I'm trying to make sense of.
Sorry if I'm being dense or wrangling over semantics, but I am curious about the seeming discrepancy and hope you will elaborate.
(Disclaimer: I think the JW "paradise" is a bunch of hooey, but I do recognize the very real potential of Orwellian constructs -- I am just curious to understand more clearly exactly how you think the WTS ties into this particular one.) -

bm=bookmarked s=searchable r=reduced from 148-mb to 62-mb ***************************************** this book was not ordinarily offered to the public.
in most cases, this book was the reason a jehovah's witness always had an answer when a house-holder said, "i am not interested," or wanted to politely ask them to leave!

could jw's prove their beliefs without watchtower literature?
by atpeace ini was pondering this question today.
i thought it might be an interesting tactic to use with my family.
if i simply asked that they prove all beliefs by the bible alone.. growing up - every time discipline or counsel was given - it was based on getting out the bound volumes.

It depends on whose definition of "prove" you mean. I have engaged in many maddening discussions asking my JW to do just that, only from the bible, and all I've learned really is that one person's proof is another person's nonsense. From a standpoint of objectivity and reason, no of course they can't prove it from the bible. The tougher question, in my opinion, is can one prove to a JW that their "proof" isn't proof at all?
As a simplistic example, I have been told with absolute certainty and conviction that the two "birthday bits" in the bible are irrefutable "proof" that it is wrong to celebrate birthdays. How do you argue with that mindset? How do you "prove" that that's not "proof" at all? You can take the literature off the table, but it's still in the brain, and because of that I've never once been able to have a reasonable discussion based on a mutual definition of "proof." One thing I've learned from JWs, is that you really can make the bible mean anything you want it to mean. -

Is BeaNO safe for dogs???
by Low-Key Lysmith inmy poor old boy's teeth just aren't what they used to be.
i've begun feeding him wet canned dog food so that he can eat a little easier.
problem is now, he busts off with some of the foulest farts on record.

Awww what a beautiful dog! I don't know if Beano is safe for dogs, maybe ask your vet. They do make "anti-gas" products specifically for dogs; they are kind of expensive though, and I don't know whether they work or not but the reviews seem to be decent. Here are a few:

So in 30 years, Adam never thought of eating from the tree of life
by Mr Ben inok, does this thing sound right to you?
2 special trees, middle of the garden, 30 years messin' about (at least according the spineless and shivering slave) blah blah blah .... and it never occured to the dumb twat to eat from the tree of life?
what a dumbass!
-
nameless_one
This might be a supremely stupid question, but how was it "supposed" to go? I mean, if Adam and Eve had "followed the plan" and not eaten the fruit, then what? Would they have multiplied, and the same rule would have applied to everyone forever and ever, and then... what? I'd never thought of that before, and it occurs to me that I've no clue what the "right" ending was supposed to be and how the heck that could have worked out. The whole story is a setup for failure from the beginning, but it seems that even a "non-failure" would have been doomed to fail eventually anyway?
(Never been a JW, and not particularly well-versed in the Bible either, obviously LOL. But I am curious about this.) -

Opinion poll: Is it wrong for grandparents to buy presents for all but one?
by cognizant dissident inmy parents (jw's) have 4 small grandchildren between the ages of 5 and 8. they recently went on a trip and brought back presents for 3 of the kids but left out one because they "didn't have time to find anything".
my sister was very upset and refused to accept the present for her daughter if they had nothing for her son.
my parents thought she was making a big deal out of nothing and since gifts are voluntary, technically, they don't have to buy them for any of the kids and can do so as they choose.

Wow, that does seem not just insensitive but downright cruel. If it were a one-time incident that could be chalked up to cluelessness or good intentions gone awry, that would be one thing, but what you describe sounds like a long-standing, deliberate pattern. It seems to me that a loving grandparent who made an oversight like that and got called out on it, would then be very careful not to exclude any of the children again (and again and again and again). I suspect they know exactly what they're doing, and that it's hurtful.
I agree with those who say it sounds like an issue of passive-aggression, though it's sort of baffling -- how sad and awful to target children with that sort of poison :-( I think your sister certainly did the right thing, it sounds like you've some very kind and cognizant adults in the family who are taking good care to protect the kids from this kind of crap and the hurt it could cause.
PS Love the idea of inviting one but not the other to dinner, LOL.
