I didn't really notice it the first time, but I caught it when I watched my taped copy. I thought it was funny - and very realistic.

Friday: "Worship the Only True God" (black/yellow paperback type book replacing "United in True Worship (1983)")
this doesn't make any sense to me. The United book hasn't been used for bible studies or anything in a very very long time. -

by TheApostleAK inhas been blacklisted......told by one of my jw friends on the other side of adelaide that that was said in his congregations public talk yesterday.. p.s.
anyone know what offspring song jw's were warned against listening to???

If I remember correctly, although the Society did name names in the 70s and possibly early 80s, they didn't after that time. They made very broad hints about the topics of some songs, and it wasn't that hard to guess some of the songs they were talking about. I say "some" because I wasn't allowed to listen to hard rock, so that kind of music is foreign to me.
not true! I remember right around the time that Nirvana was the biggest band in the world a brother came down from Brooklyn and gave a talk at Buckingham Assembly hall in Bucks County, PA and from the stage mentioned Nirvana by name and said that no true christian would listen to them. As for putting it into print - you may be right about that.
I also heard in a talk that Guns n Roses is bad because guns = penis and roses = vagina. So Guns n Roses is really just another way of saying sex. duh.

The only bands I've heard mentioned off stage are Guns n Roses, Bon Jovi, and Nirvana. ANY rap music is supposed to be bad (the racist bastards) and ANY heavy metal group is bad.

I`m Inactive
by Beans ini have heard many people say that they are "inactive"!
if a catholic or protestant aren`t going to church or only go on religious holidays they still consider themselves part of that faith.
so if you call yourself inactive are you still a jehovahs witness?

good topic, very good. I think that Jehovah's Witnesses consider my wife and I "inactive" but my wife and I consider ourselves ex JW's. I guess it all lies in perception. I would never call myself inactive.

Correction: Dateline says 10:PM Eastern
by Amazing inedit: maybe i goofed.
i did not watch dateline tonight, and did not hear stone philips say it would be shown at 7:00 pm eastern.
this is better, because family and some friends on the west coast will have it easier.

Will the Watchtower file for bankruptcy?
by DevonMcBride ini wonder if the watchtower will use the same tactic as the hare krishnas.. devon.
>>hare krishnas to declare bankruptcy to avoid abuse lawsuit.
hare krishna congregations named in a lawsuit alleging sexual and emotional abuse of boarding school students will file for bankruptcy to avoid being sued.. a spokesman for the hindu sect said about a dozen congregations will start filing for bankruptcy reorganisation next week in several states.. the group hopes that if their plan is approved by federal bankruptcy judges, the $400 million (280 million) lawsuit filed in dallas by former boarding school students will be dismissed.. anuttama dasa, a maryland-based spokesman for the international society of krishna consciousness, or iskcon, said: "we don't believe that innocent members and congregations should be held accountable for the deviant behaviour of individual acts committed 20 or 30 years ago.".

I understand how bankruptcy works in these types of cases. I just think that (A) The WTS and its lawyers are far too arrogant and cocky to do such a thing and (b) they have the financial resources to protect themselves for quite some time. I'd love to see them go in to bankruptcy or cease to exist, but I just don't see it happening for quite some time, if ever.

When I was an active witness, I'd go to any website I wanted to....there isn't a listing of "banned websites", you know. Most of the JW's don't listen to those internet warnings. Only the old school JW's really hate the internet.

I always think in terms of "never say never", but with the vast finances that the WTS has, I'd say that that is many, many, many years away, if it ever happened.
