  Funerals

  i haven't been to a "worldly" funeral...well ever that i can remember.

  all the funerals i have been to have been jw ones where they use it as another opportunity to preach to everyone in sight.

  they usually make a token mention of the dead loved one and then begin with the resurrection and earthly paradise and how you have to be a jw to get there.. today i went to my aunts funeral.

  my "worldly" great grandmother died in July (1 day before my 24th b-day), and the service was held at the funeral home - the talks and eulogies were excellent and loving.

  a sister in my hall had an "unbelieving" mate die last week. I was not at the talk his son gave at my hall on wednesday night, but a good friend of mine relayed back to me that it was basically a preaching ceremony. blah, what a joke.

  someone on another thread asked about schnell's book, thirty years a watchtower slave.

  i have a copy of it, but hadn't looked at in many years.

  i reviewed it again, and understand its importance better now that i know more about the jw history.. let me summarize some of the information that struck me.

  ok NYtelecom, I'm just down the New Jersey turnpike in PA. Let's say I decide to grow a beard. My elders would say to themselves "now there's a rebellious person" and make attempts to limit how they use me. Now what is the basis for that? My post was just a general comment that there is no basis for the no beard rule, not just in regards to what was said in the book.

  I once saw a bumper sticker on South St, Philadelphia that said TEACH MASTURBATION and ever since I've dreamt about putting it on one of my elders cars.

  I USED TO PRAY I'D NEVER LOOSE THE TRUTH

  i simply want to say what a great feeling it is to be free of the strangle-hold of mind control, guilt and the suppression of being in the truth.. i remember a co in a public talk saying how the new system would bring relief from the pressures of this system as if a huge weight had been removed from your shoulders.. and then those talks about being a "slave to sin" which carefully twists the "apparent" freedom of worldly persons into slavery.. i used to pray at night, that unlike my siblings in our large family, i wouldn't loose the truth.

  i think something inside of me was scared i would.

  i don't know why.. ok, so it took me through pioneering and a hopeless marriage but eventually i did loose it, and never wrote to thank them, and even though i'm not sure if i still believe in god or not, i should at least thank him, as i had prayed, a few days prior to my disfellowshipping, for him to guide me out of my troubles, whatever they may be.. i just want you all to know that although i post about anger at the wtbts, i trully am a very happy person, and i am happy to be here and to feel like that huge weight has already been lifted.. *

  you reminded me of a question that was asked at bookstudy on Tuesday night - "what should we do when we feel unworthy of god's love?"

  Michael Jackson still a JW!

  last night on one of the entertainment magazines shows they said that michael jackson just gave an interview to tv guide.

  in it he says he is still a jw and still goes door to door in disguise.

  i had heard a rumour recently that he still donated a lot of money to the society but had no clue he still claimed to be one.
