Meeting your online love
by Cabin in the woods ini was just wondering if you had met someone online and had a significant long term relationship with him... would you be brave enough to meet him?
obviously not alone at first but how would you check someone out before you met them other than a google search of his name.
even some place like jwd where there is a significant level of trust .

Meeting someone off the net isn't especially dangerous if you just use common sense. All the background checks etc I think is pushing it a bit, and going into someone's privacy. I've met a few people. I double check their sex and age range by speaking on the phone, only meet in public, and make sure I'm able to get home easily enough. Taking a friend with you can put them off, it's you they've got to know they may not be comfortable with someone they don't know at all and can give you the wrong impression of what they're like. I think if things go wrong, it's because people haven't used common sense.

The Bible In Lego
by serotonin_wraith inhttp://www.thebricktestament.com/
the bible can be quite a hefty read, so if you want to read it why not do yourself a favour and have a look at the lego version?
if only they'd studied this version at the hall, i would have actually paid attention.

The holy book, in all its forms and translations, is the cause of so much controversy in the world, and the lego bible is no exception.

I would love to take credit for it, but I just found it a while back. Jesus cursing the fig tree stands out as a good one for me, just the look the others give him.

Hello To Everyone! I'm new here...
by tremoka init has been a cycle of being a full fledge witness then reverting to a state of total inactivity for my family and i. we do awesome for a month or 2, then we're missing in action for another 6 months.. where i am breaking this cycle, i say no more, my husband who was raised in the 'truth', remains inactive yet devote in heart.
i respect that.
this is all he's ever known.. however, i was raised a good little mormon girl, left one church claiming to be the only true religion, i know i can do this too.

How do you go from seeing the non-christian origin in holidays etc to cross the fence and actually celebrate them?
Just do this at your own pace, according to how you feel. The first few times you may feel weird and guilty but it gets easier until you're thinking 'What the hell was I so worried about?'
How do you look at the very real state that the world is in and not hope for some divine help or intervention?
The planet's gone through changes before, and humans adapted. The global warming problem is just another example and may be spurred on by human interference this time, but it's that same human interference that'll probably come up with ways to survive it. As for the humans, it's a minority causing the problems, most of the people in the world have got a pretty good sense of morality and dislike the bad ones as much as you or I. There's always been problems, easy access to world news events makes it seem a bigger deal.
How could God leave us hear with his word the bible and allow so much diversity in it's interpretation?
No one knows 100% whether the Bible was written by men or divinely inspired. There are so many beliefs in the world, even within this forum, that you need to be able to take what you want from all of them and your own thoughts and find the answers you feel happy with. My own personal view is that we just don't know all the answers to the big questions, people have been trying for centuries to find out what the truth is, so I'm not going to worry about something I have no control over. If God reveals himself to us, so be it. If it's proven somehow that he doesn't exist, so be it. Why waste sleep trying to find answers to the impossible? It's that insane curiosity that's led to many of the problems you do see in the world. -

JW's following me at Work? NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!
by Jolinar inyesterday when i was working someone was watching some particularly un-jw approved movies on the big screen tv's i sell.
i asked them if i could help them as i usually do with customers and he hooked me into a conversation.
about 5 minutes later i heard the work 'jehovah' and freaked inside!

Excuse my bluntness, but just tell them to f*ck off. Or if you don't want to go that far, just tell them clearly you don't wish to be witnessed to. You're an adult and you don't have to listen to anything they want to say at all, make sure they understand that too.

What if they're right?
by LovesDubs indid that mentality keep you in fear and prevent you from leaving?
how many times were we told that the kingdom halls would be our ark and that we needed to keep going to the meetings so that we wouldnt miss the announcement that the great tribulation was beginning and the doors of the ark were closing...even though the bible says nobody knows the day or the hour?
did any of you ever pray for your relatives to die so they would have a ressurection and not be destroyed at armageddon?

One thing that helped me mentally to get it all out of my head was thinking, okay, even if they are right about everything, I would still rather be dead than have to live with them under a set of rules I disagreed with entirely.

Is "spiceant" an active JW?
by rassillon ini have been reading his posts and although he claims to have just met the jws a couple of months ago, he "sounds" like a jw.
comments?

Spiceant, once you're in you won't be able to question anything they tell you, not without consequences, so I'm glad you're here getting information first. Alot of their good points- no hate for people, no swearing, hope for a better future- you don't actually need them for. You don't need any religion to be a good person.

How do you stop hating?
by ThomasCovenant ini'm finding it very difficult not to hate those still in.. my wife says i hate the religion but shouldn't hate the individuals.. i think she's correct but it's getting more and more difficult not to show my feelings of anger and hatred.. the thing is i was one of them for 30 years so i should have more patience, respect and sympathy.. i think they fall into two camps.
1 deluded.
2 self deluded.

I have a hard time understanding how someone can hate people for their religious beliefs.
I think for alot of people it's more than that. I don't hate anyone for wanting to believe in Jesus and God and all that jazz, I think what I hated when I got out was the control they had in trying to force their beliefs onto others, and the way they treat anyone who leaves. Just to name a couple of things. Now I'm my own man and I don't hate them, just certain attitudes they have.
