when you started to arrive on your decision about leaving it happened one day sitting at a sunday meeting, i noticed so many in-.

dividuals reading the answer directly out of the watchtower magazine .

I agree that the way people answered right out of the publications always bothered me. What even bothered me more was the actual "encouragement" to put the answers from the paragraph into "your own words..." Basically, repeat the paragraph, just word it differently.

To answer your question, I put up with this kind of stuff, (and many others things that concerned me),for more years than I care to admit. Unfortunately, I didn't have the presence of mind to leave because of them. It took some hard life lessons to make me actually leave. However, when I fianlly did leave, it did not take me long to come to some very absolute conslusions about the organzation, and then leaving for good.

Ever wonder why so many inactive ones never actually become ex-jws

i have been considering this often lately, as i know many who have for all intents and purposes, left the organization, yet they still believe it is the truth.

i know when i left, it wasn't long before i had to really investigate for myself, (after a matter of about three months of just taking a "breather"), weather or not what jws taught was actually the "truth".

i think, this was because i realized that something other than just my own weakness had to be what made me "give up".

I have been considering this often lately, as I know many who have for all intents and purposes, left the organization, yet they still believe it is the truth. I think, this was because I realized that SOMETHING other than just my own weakness had to be what made me "give up". As it turned out, I was right. There was, obviously much wrong with the organization, and it did not take me long to realize that it wasn't the "Truth". It was actually quite a simple process, once I did it.

That said, what keeps "inactive" ones from taking it one step further and actually doing some research on the WTS? I mean, for the peace of mind alone, the time spent is worthwhile. I don't know how someone can live with the constant nagging feeling of "I just couldn't do it, but I know I'm wrong", kinda thing. I have an "inactive" jw friend of mine, almost completely not living the "jw lifestyle", yet is very reluctant to consider the possibility that the org just might be wrong. I really don't see how someone can be content with that.

Like someone told me, only the strong willed can escaped the orginization. Sadly, most of them are not.

Very true. This is why many become "inactive", but never actually stop believeing it's the truth. They would rather go through the pain of thinking they are a failure, rather than consider, that maybe, just maybe the organization is wrong.

Don't take it personally. We all would have written similar letters not too long ago. I'm learing myself what topics to stay away from talking to jw friends, (there's only two plus my sister that I still talk to).

Meetings are BORING!

why do the brothers take such offense when someone says that the meetings are boring?.

i can't possibly fathom how people who have been going to the meetings for decades can sit at the kh and listen, for example, to yesterday's wt study for an hour about adam and eve, cain and abel, how we are all allowed to pray, blah, blah, blah... and not be bored out of their minds!.

I used to like them.

That lasted maybe a year after baptism. I don't remember when I last didn't complain about the boredom in private circles. Many of those that I know complained as well are still going.

How did you feel, when you missed your 1st Memorial?

i remember going to each memorial even when i was inactive.

i felt that i had to go to atleast that meeting.. then one year, i was sick on that day, and didn't go to the memorial.

it was a funny feeling to miss the most important day of the year, as a jw would call it.. but i got used to it, when i missed my 2nd and 3rd memorial..

This year was the first I missed. Felt damn good, (after learning the WTS was full of shit).

How do you remember all the posters?

there's so many who take the time to make responses to my posts.

good and bad, which are all needed to help me keep my hat on straight.

Honestly, I'm bad with names when I can't put a face with them, (why I use my photo for avatar), but like Warlock said, I get to know people the more they post.

The useless WTS Website

i can't believe and low-tech and next-to-useless the watchtower website is.

considering how in the past the jw's used radio and other technology to help spread the jw doctrine "good news", it seems they should have developed a great website to help get new members.. but their site is dreary and hollow.

old information like the "generation of 1914 will see the end of the system" is still posted there.

Also, if people did go to the website, would they contribute to the world-wide work?
Would many feel that they do not need to study with someone or go to the KH?
They gotta control those folks with a home bible study and weekly meetings.

Exactly, OnTheWayOut. That's why they did away with the radio stations, and never used television. Obviously, the door to door work is NOT the most effective way to reach the most people, but it IS one of the more effective ways to reach people you can potentially control.

Even when I was a dub, I thought the website was fairly useless. My theory, is that is by design. In recent decades, (since the disbanding of the radio network), the WT has CHOSEN to not use any type of media other than printed page to do it's work. They really don't want people "learning" things about the organization, outside of the "arrangement". If they gave too much information there, most people would then be able to make an informed decision not to join. The bible study arrangement, OTOH, is far more insidious, and things can be introduced to the student by means of pressure, that otherwise would not be accomplished my merely reading the information at face value on the website.

MY SON WAS ATTACKED!

yesterday afternoon my older son, karl, who is studying musical production at brighton university, came round to see his family.

he had just been to see his pregnant girlfriend, who is staying with her mum and dad for a week.. karl is a wonderful boy; the type of son any parent would be proud of.

he is loving, considerate, respectful and has never once caused any trouble or been in any.

Sorry to hear this, Ian. You've had it tough enough already, who needs this crap? I'm glad to hear your son's ok, though. Those bastards need to be taken off the street.
