before the introduction of the largest library on the planet...the internet...did you young jws use the awake magazines as a source for doing your homework and trust the contents to be accurate for reports?
i remember reading letters from readers just drooling with thanks for giving their kids the edge over those poor worldly kids who had to trapse to the library to do their research.
:)

hi folks, i've been reading your comments in this forum for awhile now, and they certaintly have been enlighting, but i'm interested in your .
ideas on who, why and how the organization started, and how did it maintain itself for all these years.
what was the underlining intent of the people who started.
also believe CT Russel started the religion up with the best of intentions, money was not the goal. The same could be said of William Miller and perhaps a host of other individuals. The problem is that many of these individuals start to feel as if they are god's channel and then rely too much on their own understanding or hunches and start teaching these things as truth. I think the organization today is stuck in this mindset.
As for the money issue, although money is important to keep the organization running, that is not their focus and I think it is a little dishonest to imply that without giving greater evidence. From the way the governing body lives, it is a far cry from the lifestyles of the rich and famous. I am not saying there aren't some perks like traveling first class and so on but I think it is more of the power that intoxicates the GB.
Exactly what TheCarpenter said.

being one of jehovahs witnesses.
does this mean that i would return?
Althouh I spent almost 20 years "in", (and close to 30 at least associated), I was always somewhat of an "outsider" in terms of the cliques at the hall. I always saw through the comaraderie somewhat, and just managed to maintain a small circle of good friends, that tended to think the way I thought about things. Three of those friends, I am still on speaking terms with, as one is an ex-jw, one is "inactive", and potentially an ex-jw, and the third is an elder, with enough common sense, and rational thought to know the Borg is wrong about many things. It is my hope, all will be "ex" jws someday.
Fortunately, I always been sort of a "liberal" witness. My one elder freind, (18 years my senior), was quite normal and a big influence on me during my late teenage, and early 20s years. I worked for him during college, (of which he encouraged to go to), and things such as having a drink after work with other work associates and hobbies were things I saw him pursuing, so I got away from the "all extra cirricular activities are bad" mentality early on. Over the course of my 20s, I always found it awkward to hear other jws talk and act in such an ultra conservative manner. They just seemed brain dead to me, and not a good reflection on the organization as a whole.

today a jw friend of mine related this story to me.
she was at the park with a sister whose husband is an elder.
the elder's wife had their four year old son, an only child with her.
This is very sad. Honestly, it makes me angry that people could actually do things like this to thier children. Disgusting.

on finding the "truth" a former jehovah's witness asks: .
what troubled me most as a jw was that how i could be sure i had the truth.
if you choose a religion and claim it as the truth, it's like saying you are smarter than anyone who believe other religions... imho.
Thanks Randy. A good read as always.

i know its a question that has been asked a thousand times, but what really made you exit the jws .. for instance, my wife and i, having found out about the u.n., 607bce, failed prophecies etc.
gave all this information to my wifes brother, along with many so called friends.
we came out but the brother and friends stayed in.. the only reasoning i can put on it, is that we made an effort to find out for ourselves what was the real truth, the others were told and given written evidence - but still didnt make a decision.
(Abridged version)
After some experiences with the elder body, that left me really sensing, (knowing in a deep place), that in no way was there any holy spirit directing the steps of either the congregation, or the organization as a whole. Too much dishonesty and politicing. This eventually kept me from going to meetings, and only after several months of not attending, did I consider actually doing research on the organization. 607, in particular, was the real doctrinal clincher, as I already believed there was enough wrong with the organization, even without knowing of the UN/NGO issue, child abuse cases, etc, to prove it wasn't the truth.

i am considering to get directv high speed internet.
i do have high speed internet with another company, but directv has been offering me pretty good deals, so if you have directv high speed internet, i would like to hear from you and tell me how you like it, etc.....thank you!
I don't have it, but keep in mind anything that communicates with a satellite will have a noticeable propagation delay, so real-time communication, such as VoIP or two-way video, is pretty much out of the question. Also absolute top (download), speeds, are only good to about 768k, at a maximun, and from what I understand, they are usually much slower. I have a friend at work who had it, before he could get DSL, and he claims the customer service was about the worst he ever experienced.

warning: the wtbts is becoming more cultish as evidenced in this mp3.
listener take heed.
turn on all your cult warning alarms on.. .
All I had to do was read Scully's post. What double talk nonsense from this guy. I don't think I could bear to listen to it.

LT, I just read your announcement for the first time. Wow! I never heard of anything like that. Talk about balls! Good for you, my friend!

I would not be present for such an announcement, if ever made, inasmuch as I have not attended, nor will ever attend a KH again.
