as many of you know, the bible text at luke 21:8 has become a major issue for me.
i decided that it would be proper to do some more in depth research of the text, as well as the words contained in the text.
this is all going to be complied and put togeather in a letter that i am going to send to the society.
Drew, not sure of what you're specifically looking for in regards to kairos, but I'll offer some general comments about it.
It is of interest that kairos is used in scripture to denote a set time-frime for something. Like at Matthew 26:18, the Greek kairos is used when Jesus is talking about "the time appointed of my death". In other instances where "time" is used in it's common form, the Greek chronos is most likely used. So Jesus is obviously referring to people who would usurp the title of Messiah and claim "the time for Israel to be restored is here".
Hope that helped, or at least showed the contrast between the 2 usages of "time" in the scriptures.
charles taze russel was a zionist, yet today's wt has nothing to do with it.
what happened, what scriptures do they use to defend their position and why do they talk so much about the end of the world yet when you bring up israel, the ingathering and how the world is focused on destroying israel and the jews, they totally discount it as nothing.
If Russell were alive today, he would promptly be disfellowshipped. Not just for the Zionist leanings, either. Russell would have a major problem with the authoritarian leadership/caste system within the organization.
all of a sudden, there are a lot of members that have been here for a long time posting their 'good-byes... .
could it be that we are all wrong and they have gone back to the 'truth'?
*insert sarcasm here* .
Well, to be honest, I think many are leaving JWD because the general feeling of the site is negative. It's a good place to come to have your spirits brought down and that's about it. Not a whole lot of useful information that helps people who have left the organization. And for those who will be quick to flame me for this, stop and think for just one minute, and you MIGHT see what I'm talking about, but probably not.
so when my brother was a wee little lad, my mother was helping him prepare his first presentation.
it involved a paradise tract, i'm sure.. anyway, so my brother, probably about 5 or 6 years old, stands at his first door and makes his little presentation.
except he kind of forgot what he was going to say and kind of made it up on the spot, because what he ended up saying was, "if you'd like to live forever you can have this tract.
When I was a Witness (ministerial servant/pioneer), even then I knew of the problems with the organization and the unscriptural things that were being practiced, but I thought that I could rise above it myself and promote a more basic walk with God among the people that I talked to. So in my door-to-door presentations, it was me with no briefcase, just a Bible in my hand. I would approach a householder with the simple objective of offering them something from the Bible that would lift their spirits. Long story short, you would be amazed at how many meaningful conversations I got into with people. When others would go to the door with me, they would say stuff like, "Your presentations are a little different from what the KM suggests." But it worked, and that was the point.
I also did this with public talks. I would use very little of the outline. But the audience was more captivated when I did it this way, and got tons more compliments about how the talk helped them in some way than if I had stayed rigidly with the outline.
One time I gave the public talk at a congregation about an hour away from my home, and after the meeting was over, the public talk coordinator for that congregation came up to me with a stern look on his face and said, "Which outline were you using?" And then I showed him the actual outline and he said, "Yes, I was following along with my copy of the outline and it didn't seem like you were using it." But right about then some lady came up to me and was sooooooo gracious toward me for coming to give the talk and explained how she loved it and that pretty much ended the other conversation.
I am convinced that the leadership of the JW's are the modern-day Pharisees.
can anybody direct me to the thread(s) that summarize the convention and tell what new book was released?
thanks in advance.

fred franz was part of a quartet????
a bethelite friend back in the day told me that, during the time swingle was the head of the writing dept.
and was working on writing his assignment in a new release publication or an "important" new watchtower issue...that he would lock himself in a room for 3-4 days with no food and no water, just him, his research, his writing, and supposedly his prayers.. i remember how hearing things like that made me really think that the fds must really be approved and guided by jehovah.
either way, he must have been a pretty spiritual man.

i love the way they say the end can come at anytime, but , these things must take place first.
1. great tribulation like nothing ever seen b4.
2. the authorities turning first on false religion and then directing their attention to gods people.
