I love this idea. I can't wait to start dropping by my local laundromat and disposing of them. Thanks for the inspiration.

I-75 London Kentucky-pick up the mags
by Junction-Guy inif you ever travel i-75 through london kentucky, stop off at the shell station at exit 38. on the back side of the building beside the payphones there is a brochure rack for truckers, there are always watchtowers and awakes laying around.
i hit the jackpot on saturday when i was traveling north to dayton, i found a total of 8 different watchtower and awakes, i promptly removed them all.
this has been a tradition for me for the past few years.

Even if you file for unemployment and its denied by your company. You can file a grievance and state the terms by which you felt unfairly treated i.e. in your case not lying about something. I know several people that filed a grievance with their states unemployment office and the state decided to give them the benefits. That should tide you over til you find something.

Were You Ever In The Congregation Clique?
by minimus inwere you "fortunate" enough to be part of the "in crowd" or were you a spectator??
?

I started out in no clique, but eventually became part of the young cool fringe group. The odd thing was though that if you were part of this group, you also congregated with the young pioneers just at different times, wierd huh.

Oh, how depressing. I'm so sorry you had to witness that. I agree with Megsmomma to send a pet condolence card.

Remember the assembly hall at Grantville, Pennsylvania?
by WingCommander inwhen i was a child in the early 80's, i remember about twice a year being packed up into the family jdub-mobile and taking about an hour trip up to the grantville, pa assembly hall.
i think it was built in the late 60's, or early 70's.
back in the 80's, circuit assemblies lasted like 4 days.

I went to the grantville assembly hall for every assembly from 1990-till I left in 1998. I was baptized there in Dec. 95'. My family would drive down from the poconos twice a year. I remember in probably 1993 I had a small travel bag with my sony walkman, and 15 really good cassettes (Pink Floyd, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Led Zeppelin, etc.) and for some reason I left the bag underneath my parents car because the door was locked. When I came outside later the car was gone and so was the bag. A few days later I called lost and found and was routed to an elder in some congregation i didn't know. I called him and he looked inside the bag for me to make sure it was mine, I thought I would get a lecture about the music choices but he was cool, and mailed it back to me.
I don't think I miss it.

recommended reading
by Chia ini haven't read as much as i would like to, so i'd like to catch up on some reading, especially relating to female ex-jws.
i'm going to order "out of the cocoon" today.
has anyone read "the truth book" by joy castro, and if so, what should i expect from it?.

Hey chia,
As far as JW-related I agree that Crisis of Conscience and In search of christian freedom are excellent reads.
As for non-Jw, I read a great book this summer titled The Divided Mind: The Epidemic of Mindbody Disorders by Dr. John E. Sarno. The book is written a by a famous Dr. who deals with psychosmatic disorders like Back Pain, fibromyalgia, Irritable Bowel syndrome, etc. It is an excellent look into how your brain and your body interact when dealing with stress and the situations it is in.

My Grandmother is Dying (non JW) from Cancer
by jrjr4189 inmy grandmother is not a jw nor is my grandfather or my father.
she is however a methodist and i think she has a belief in jesus and that she is going to heaven.. i would like to use a short scripture in a card to her that might ease her mind a little in these last days of hers.
she was always supportive of me when i was a jw even though she didn't buy into no christmas, birthdays, the usual and always celebrated them with me anyway (like any good grandmother would do).. any suggestions would be appreciated.

If she knows about her condition and faces it, I'd suggest one of my favourite passages from Paul:
Yes Narkissos she knows her condition and her fate. That scripture is beautiful, thank you so much for your suggestion.
Thank you to the rest of you for your support and kind words.

My Grandma was sent to hospital last wednesday in the middle of night (I was there when it happened, because i stay at their house once a week because I work in NY and they live closer to my job). She has been battling colon and liver cancer for about 15 months and we were told yesterday that it has spread into her lungs and that it will not be long.
