Bonafide~
I could have posted that same thing!
I lived in Long Beach back in the 70's and we went to Dodger Stadium almost every summer. In fact, I was dunked in a pool in the Dodger bullpen! Gymbob

A few questions for all you experts from my long JW meeting yesterday
by AuntBee inhere are a few things that were said that seemed kind of dubious to me.
(i had a meeting with 2 women that came to the door - full story in the thread "i received the knock...").
they baptize in the name of the father, son and holy spirit.

If those ladies come back for another visit, you might want to ask them these questions: Are your current beliefs solidly based on scripture? Do you personally believe everything that is taught in the Watchtower? If the Watchtower changed a teaching would you change your belief along with them?
These questions were asked to me by a man when I came knocking on his door one Saturday morning, and it really shook me because I knew if (or when) the WT changed a teaching, I knew I HAD to change too. And THAT told me that I really didn't have the freedom that I thought I had. Gymbob

A couple years ago I was dating a lady who was a big Aerosmith fan (had the Areo tats and EVERYTHING). We went to see them in concert with KISS...right up front.
All I can say is...what a great night that was! Gymbob

Are there any religions that worship God but do not believe in an Afterlife
by jwfacts init seems that people only worship god for the reward of a resurrection.
people normally do not admit that, and say that even if there was no resurrection they would worship god for the life that he has given them.
a good indication of whether this could be true is if religions existed that worshipped god but do not believe in a soul or resurrection or everlasting life.

I also don't believe there is a life after this one. Of coarse, if there is a life after this one there isn't one damn thing we can do about it, and I"ve seen too many people wasting way too much of this life trying to make it comfortably into another life that could be out ther after this one.

I believe in doing the right thing because it's the right thing to do, not for some childish reward/threat.
Say there are two boys, Billy and Bobby. When their mother tells them to go clean their rooms, Billy says "ok mom, it's my room and I got it dirty so I'll go clean it".
Bobby, on the other hand tells his mom, "No. Not unless you give me something". So mom says, "I'll make your favorite dinner tonight if you go clean your room (heaven). Of coarse, if you don't clean you room, I'm going to spank your butt (hell). So Bobby goes to clean his room.
So both boys cleaned up their rooms, but for different reasons. Which kid would you say cleaned his room for the right reason? Gymbob

I went in 79', Hickory, NC....can't remember instructor names. Actually the only thing I really remember about the whole thing was the nice family we stayed with for the week. They had a teenage son who just idolized my pioneer partner and me because we were former bethelites, and that was where he wanted to go when he reached the proper age. If they could see me now!!

The psychology of a Jehovah's Witness
by drew sagan ini've been meaning to put this up here for a while, so here it goes.
this photo is called the "cusp catastrophe model" (for more on cusp catastrophe go here physchologist leslie l. downing has used this model to show how people tend to behave when either accepting new beliefs: (his work on this subject can be found in the book "war in heaven, heaven on earth") .
it may appear to be confusing, but i think that once you take a closer look things become quite apparent.

My adult daughter (who left a few years ago when I did) told me just the other day that she wouldn't mind being a casual meeting attender at the KH just so that she could spend some time with her JW mom. It really shocked me to hear her say that.
Then a few days later, her mom told her that she can't spend ANY time with her, due to a conversation the elders had with her, and that really pissed my daughter off, because my ex sometimes comes over to my daughter's house to see her/our grandkids. Not anymore!
My daughter said that she felt as if the witnesses were literally, "pushing her away".
I really believe that most of the time, those people just don't get it.....
