Why do you think almost every church PAYS for a pastor/preacher, etc? It's a job. It takes a lot of time. And like most jobs, it's a pain in the a**!

The Decline of Elders and Ministerial Servants
by Londo111 ini seem to remember somebody saying that since the 90's the number of elders has declined from 90000 to 60000. does anybody have any hard figures regarding this?.
the organization is desperate for "qualified" men.
but their standards are much too high, especially the monthly field service hour requirements tagged on to endless meetings and congregational busywork.

Exactly Sizemik...That's also why they don't want members talking to anyone who has left, or people at the door who ask questions. It, "Will generate an unintended negative effect".

"You'll never find an atheist in a foxhole"...Is that kind of like, "You'll never find a dead Christian praying in a foxhole". (?)

what is the dumbest thing you've been reproved/chided/df'd for?
by rather be in hades ini'm a big science nerd and i remember when we were going over the creator book, that the big bang doesn't necessarily prove there is no god.. i said this comment during book study and the conductor's jaw dropped.
everyone was pretty uncomfortable and it didn't help that he ct me off as i was explaining the red shift and mom wasn't too happy about all that.
i had to do a lot of bible research and write some nonsense about how the big bang was not reality or some sort...ugh.. .

Latest WT: "Refusing to appear before a JC is like refusing medical treatment"
by cedars inin the latest october 15th 2012 watchtower (page 13).... "because of what they perceive as defects in the elders, some individuals who engage in serious wrongdoing in the congregation have refused to appear before a committee of elders assigned to help them.
this could be likened to a patient who loses out on the benefits of a treatment because he does not like something about the doctor.".
sounds like they're now trying to stigmatize those who try to avoid judical action.

I told them, "I have no need to meet with you". They said they would DF me if I didn't. I told them I've done nothing to be DF'd for. So, instead of being fired, I simply quit. Gezz they hated that...

Rumors-that circulated about you ( when you left.)
by Pitchess Co-Gen init seems they can't even let you get disfellowshipped in peace !
i've been out for three years now, and i heard that i'm a whack job, i'm gay ( i'm married with a son ), that i lied on a judicial committee, and these rumors were started by my ex-fiance and her meddling congregation.
when i heard about these things i called my p.o or c.o.t.b.e ( mind you i'm disfellowshipped when i called ) .

I supposedly cheated on my wife after I left, and I think that's what she told the elders about why she has, "scriptural grounds" to file divorce papers. I call NOT FAIR...Got accused of something that I didn't even get to do! Gym bob.

"You are so Focussed on The Past that you can't see the Blessings in front of your Eyes!"
by BluesBrother inthat statement has been made to me recently - i think it is a sound-bite from the new dvd about jerusalem's fall.. hmm.. i need to reflect on a reply .
several thoughts come to mind but it has to be constructive and form a reasoned argument rather than a smart answer.. what blessings?
are we unreasonably obsessed with the past?

How have you fared since leaving the Jehovah's Witnesses?

You all must be liars! How can it be possible to leave The Truth and have a better, happier, less stressful life?? Gotcha!
I know it's very hard at first, when you realize you've been fooled...I know when I learned TTATT, I felt like I'd had my head up my backside my whole life. But after a while, you realize what life is all about. "Worldly" people are not all bad (actually, I personally believe they are better than most JW's).
Also, you learn things like...you won't get struck with lightning when you respond to co-workers/neighbors/strangers by saying, "Merry Christmas to you too", or, "you have a Happy New Year too!" You learn what being a TRUE friend, and TRUE love is. Also Christmas and Thanksgiving are great with what family you have, and grandkids you may have, and most importantly.... family YOU HAVE CHOSEN AS FAMILY.
You realize WHY people have celebrated.....THINGS....anything... for thousands of years! It's fun!
I could go on forever on this subject, but the bottom line is, I have done very, very well since leaving Jehovah's Witnesses. Gym Bob

I agree with LongHairGal, JW's love it when they're in the news, and when they hear about this, they can't help but get online and check it out! Right on Skeeter1..."Wet the appetite". Gym Bob
