Oh yea, I got asked to the back room first back in 80' for growing a mustache, our CO showed up with one so I thought it would be ok....wrong!

Then in the early 90's I grew a nice , well-trimmed beard for a couple weeks, that got the elders so pissed off at me, but what are they going to do read me a scripture? Which one?! HAHA!! I shaved it off, but made my point, what a stupid rule!

Then right before I left I started wearing a shirt and tie with a nice sweater to the meetings (how REBELIOUS!! OOOOH!!) got lots of bad looks but no elder dared go there....what a BS cult!!

i always thought that my dad was a smart man, that he still had his common sense, but now i see that's not true.

and for some stupid reason, this has really got to me tonight.

i'm sharing the content of this discussion so that maybe someone else can see the ignorance of this horrible religion of people who cannot really love because their evil bible won't let them.

Sorry to hear about you dad, but you're not alone....mine, and MANY others are just the same way and it's sooo frustrating to try and talk to them, isn't it?? Especially when you've known a man your whole life and then he comes up with the STUPIDIST reason for believing anything from the society when it's so clear what the right course is!

nobody ever said that the end was coming in 1975.. all the hype about this date that has continued all the way down through today came from a talk in the early 70's by fred franz.

in this talk, franz pointed out the significance of the 7 creative days and how they correspond with 1,000-year time intervals.. he then said, "could the end come in 1975?

there's so much wrong with jehovah's witnesses from their rigid legalism to their faux love, but let's call a spade a spade about the 1975 thing..

Ok so the society never EXACTLY said it....the real point is: If it DID come in 1975, would the WTB&TS be able to say (with proof), "Look, we told everybody this was going to come years ago!" ? WELL??? Of course they could!! End of discussion....

I hate to say it, but the US team is gonna get spanked! Tiger and Furyk will probably win thier matches and maybe Phil Michelson too, but as a team the Europeans have it this time. Just my opinion.....

i'm 21 years old and i left the the jw's when i was 18. i was born into the religion so it's been really hard getting use to things.

my story is pretty complicated and for some safety reasons i can't say to much.

Do the Governing Body have a priviliged life style or not?

having heard that ted jaracz is being flown out of state to consult a heart specialist, i started wondering what other luxuries the governing body of the wtbts enjoy!

any one any idea how they really live and if their vow of poverty is fake?.

Well let's see....

Their medical expenses are taken care of and they get to eat fresh food shipped into NY daily. They have a carpenter's shop to build them anything they want when they turn in the request form, also maid service, and they travel anywhere on the planet whenever they want for a "Zone Visit", and when they get there they are treated like famous movie-stars or heads of state by every and any witness around who has the "privilege" to talk to them after they give a little talk about how close we are to the end . And then when they fly first class back home they get to live on one of the most expensive pieces of property on the planet with a view of lower Manhattan. Besides that, everything they say is viewed as if it came from heaven. No, I don't see anything unusual there.

Do they get lots of "green handshakes"? Yes. Do they have lots of money? No. The question should really be...Do the GB lack for anything? ANYTHING?! No. GYMBOB

How many of you are still "active Witnesses"?

i'm curious about some of you who post here and say that you attend jw meetings regularly.

what motivates you to post here, and does anyone in your congregation have any clue you're doing that?

I'm NOT active.

Tried to fade, but they wanted to DF me for apostacy, but I told them in so many words..."I quit!", and DA'd myself.

More importantly, i'm glad I did. It was a clean but diffiCULT break but has made it easier to get on with life. I know many of you all are still active, and for good reasons (that's what I wanted too), but now that I look back, i'm glad i'm done with them......GYMBOB.

When the Sunday speaker did not show up.....

i remember that happening a few times.

one sunday morning my son went up to a young elder and said "hey, i thought you were giving the talk today in xxx xxxxx.

the look of horror on the elder's face!

I was talking about this very thing not long ago with another 'apostate', and the funny thing was, we both (and I think most of JW's) really hoped the speaker wouldn't show up, and we could go home after the WT study. Of course NOBODY is ever going to say that back then...."what a shame the speaker didn't show up", , when we ALL were counting down the minutes for the WT study to end just hoping that we'd have a no-show and could go home early! Mind control at it's best......
