I would like to obtain the book, Crisis of Conscience.
Is that something I can buy anywhere or do I have to special order if from somewhere?
Thanks for your help.

said the elder to the 'inactive' jw yesterday:.
"just remeber, the jws are the largest peace movement in the world!".
the 'inactive' then should have said,______________________________(fill in the blank).
Sorry? Did you say largest bowel movement???
seeing all these different people on this board, together with varying personalities, thoughts and opinions, makes me wonder about our reading and viewing material.. take the daily news.
if you watch tv, which news programme do you spend most time viewing and why?
the same question as to which daily newspaper you read, plus, does your newspaper have a political bias that attracts you?
Englishman,
I prefer the BBC (old habits die hard!) and I also used to watch Sky quite a bit, but now that I am back stateside, I have to agree with O'connor..the O'Reilly factor is probably the best. He's a little more opinionated than Larry King.
Newspapers...look at the Daily Mail almost daily online, and sometimes I yearn for the old News of the World on Sundays.
Cheers..

i went to see my grandmother today, who has been a jw pioneer for going on 60 years and is still pioneering.
this is what she told me.. she said that they had their one-day assembly yesterday and that attendance was high.
she said that there was someone there from bethel in ny, who told everyone his experience of the attack on tuesday.
Thank you everyone for your heartfelt advice.
I have been feeling sick all day about it and have decided to speak to my sister, who lives in another state and has three kids and has disassociated herself years ago, what she would do. I don't really want to rock the boat. I have always been the vocal one in my family, thus earning me prime troublemaker status. But my family knows what I believe...I tell them flat out, I DON'T BELIEVE IT.
So wish me luck.....will keep you posted.

Thanks for all your input, folks.
Another more serious issue cropped up last night after I post the first question.
I decided to ask my nine year old son if his great-grandmother and/or his grandparents (my parents) ever talked to him about Jehovah.
Well, he said of course!! and launched into a rhetoric that I thought I had long left behind...great tribulation....new system...no houses left..bad people destroyed and that he would be playing with lions, blah, blah.
THEN, he said to me, why don't you believe it Mummy? Shocked, I said that they had been saying the same thing for years and years and Mummy has seen no evidence of anything happening.
Then he said, then you won't make it to the new system if you don't believe.
I am really at a loss as to what to do. Saying anything might alientate me from my family even more, yet if he starts spouting this to his father when he visits him in the UK, his father would have every reason to be outraged like me.
What should I do? It's a tough call, since next to my son, my grandmother is the most important person to me on the planet.
Any more advice would be appreciated.
Thanks
Diana

She said that they had their one-day assembly yesterday and that attendance was high. She said that there was someone there from Bethel in NY, who told everyone his experience of the attack on Tuesday. He also said that the WT immediately printed out the Awake issues from the past months about terrorism and post-traumatic stress disorder. He said the presses were running from the day it happened printing these mags to distribute.
Then her and my parents were out in full force this morning, taking advantage of the people who wanted to talk (although some man ordered my father off his property with a few choice words.)
They seem to be really elated about this. My grandmother pressed the two issues of the Awake into my hands and I took them, (although I tried not to recoil) because I didn't want to be rude. THen my uncle called from Florida (another JW) and they were talking about how they heard that some Bethelites were letting people in their lobby and feeding them, etc. and probably handing out literature the day it happened like heroes and all that.
So here I have them. I have thumbed through them, although they were issued a couple months ago and I don't really see anything different from what I remember all those years ago.
I guess my dilemma is whether I should just keep my mouth shut and let them go on about it. But my jaw is starting to hurt from clenching my mouth trying to be quiet.
Any suggestions? How have you handled this, you, who have JW relatives?

i seriously ask this question in light of some ridiculous experiences i have had in recent times.
a while back,a freind of mine purchased a new home.
a housewarming party was planned for her.
NYTELECOM,
I would imagine the mere fact that you visit this site would be grounds for disfellowshipping, or at least, what they used to call, "pulic reproving", or at least taking away your microphone and selling literature behind the counter duties.
Perhaps if you were honest with yourself (and us) you would have the courage to leave the organisation instead of leading a major double life.
No one here is fooled.

there is something that i am not clear about in my mind, so i would much appreciate some input on this 2 part question.. i keep reading posts from persons who are desperate to leave the jw's.
however, almost without exception, these persons state that they will be shunned by their families and friends.
so, my first quesion is: do you mean that you will be officially disfellowshipped by the elders of your congregation if you simply opt to leave?.
I have a question that perhaps Englishman can answer.
My sister, who was baptised, has been disassociated for several years. I know that she has done many things that would warrant a disfellowshipping..however, my parents and grandmother sort of look the other way.
However, my aunt who was baptised years ago, was disfellowshipped back in the 60s. SHe only got baptised to please her mother. She was only 12.
The elders informed my parents and grandmother only nine years ago that they weren't to have anything to do with the aunt. How can that be when all these years have gone by? And where does my sister fit into the scheme of things? Is there a written policy anywhere on this?
Perhaps someone can help me on this as it's been driving me crazy for nine years!!! Thanks..

gathering that there seems to be a mix of active jw's, inactive jw's, ex-jw's, atheists etc.
here, i am wandering on your thoughts on the holidays with more focus on the more religious based holidays like christmas & easter.. i'd like to know if you celebrate them like the mainstream of society or if you still have your reservations about them based on what you learned as part of the wt.
i myself have been very turned off by the holidays in recent years - not because of the wt though- but for my own personal reasons.
Peace,
I think Gopher hit it right on the mark when he said the he felt no "emotional attachment" to the holidays.
When you grow up lacking the holidays, even as an adult, the spirit never seems to quite get you. I went through the motions when I was married and celebrated along with everyone else, but it doesn't bother me one way or the other.
Even now, I let my son stay with his father every Christmas because quite frankly, I don't really feel that I NEED to be with him on the holiday as he and his parents do.
Yes, alot of celebrations has pagan origins, but a lot of our every day life things have pagan origins. Despite their reputation, the Pagans have influenced us greatly in many areas..more than the JWs realise or care to admit.
I think with everyone it's a personal issue and there is no set way that we, as ex-Jws, view the celebrations. I think we all just take it one day as it comes.
Good luck in your search for truth.

I too have exceptionally long toes (and fingers) and the toe thing runs in my family. I used to get teased alot about the toes and fingers but really do like them!!
Welome Jenny Nuk.
John Irving is my favourite author too and I am an American that lived 8 years in England (also divorced.) You've come to the right board.
