I am particularly dismayed at the child abuse section. As a court reporter, I sit through many trials of child abuse and I am horrified that they don't strongly encourage the parents to phone the police immediately after the allegation.
This is probably the worst thing I have come across yet, but unfortunately this doesn't surprise me, as nothing does anymore with them.

i thought i would post this and see what happens.... i'm wondering if anyone in the ex-dub community and who lives in the usa is looking for a roommate right now?.
my business requires me to do a lot of traveling but for several reasons i've decided that i want to have a home base where i can leave my stuff, make myself some home cooked meals (resturant food gets old if you eat out all the time) and just do some r&r on my days off.
i can certainly afford to rent an apartment or house (up to $1,000 a month) but then there is no cool people to talk with and all that jazz.

Welcome to the site.
I wasn't going to reply to this topic as it's a bit personal, but decided to because I think that there are probably a large number of people experiencing mental troubles who were JWs.
I don't know if there is a correlation between the two, but I have had problems over the years with depression and my siblngs experience some trouble too. But since half the Western world is on something, it's hard to say.
But I can say that I have battled with depression (and still do). And I put a lot of it down to how I was raised and the issues you carry with you from childhood. It wasn't easy growing up as a JW, totally different than everyone and constantly picked on and ridiculed. I think that has a lot to do with how we are now.
Interesting thought though. I would encourage others to post here if they have experienced similar things. It's comforting to know that we are not alone.

I now reside in lovely Lancaster County, PA, outlet captial of the world but the most boring place on earth!! Went to Manayunk the other night and had a great time. Philly is really a great town but needs some cosmetic work in some places...if you're ever out here...

well, a post on the good ol days got me thinking about the vehicles people drive and why.
in the jws, a vehicle had to be appropriate for service, four doors, holding at least five.
i remember back in 1978 i bought an mgb and the brothers had a fit (hehe), i was selfish, etc.,.
For the past few years I have driven an MX5 (or Miata, for you US folks) because I have an absolute aversion to backseats due to years of forced field service.
My young son, his backpack and his trumpet case barely fit in my car, and every morning it is a challenge trying to fit them all in!
I am currently looking into getting a BMW Z3 (slightly more room, but no backseat!)

a pleasant woman who asked if i was the press, answered the phone and directed me to someone else, who then directed me to someone else, who finally put me in touch with someone who identified himself as patterson.. i explained that i had read the article in the guardian newspaper and i was concerned about the article.
he asked if i was a jw and i said no, my parents and grandmother are.. i then asked him what the response was.

I then asked him what the response was. He said that they were "Looking into the matter" and would respond to my query by letter
if I wrote in.
I asked him if the society was refusing to comment at the moment, to which he said that they want "all the information before they issue a response."
I assume they have had many calls and this is how they are handling them all. I just wonder what is going on...would love to be that fly on the wall at the GB meeting!

yes, i know, the title is a pun.
it was deliberate.. i can recall in the 1970s seeing very few overweight jws.
in fact, i used to think (in my arrogant jw manner) that this was a sign of how jws were better at self-control than worldly people.
I'm rolling on the floor laughing!! I remember the assemblies and the food lines...and the cheese danishes! Don't forget the Shasta..boy was that nasty.
Going to a convention now is like going to a tellytubby convention!
