I am so sorry purps. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I know what it is like to lose someone so close. I am glad you were able to be in an environment where those of all faiths could remember your brother and give you and your family all the support you need.

by searching4truth ini am still very uncertainabout many things and trying to sort through jw brainwashing and what i believe which is pretty difficult having been raised a jw.

is it scitural to think that to be aproved by god youshould be?

I have always felt that baptism is the outward sign of the inner salvation. Methodists will accept any baptism from the mainstream denominations, as it is just a symbol. It is not necessary for faith in Jesus the Messiah. Many liken it to the Jewish circumcision. A mark of belonging to the faith. A way to pronounce proudly your beliefs.

I believe I have come to realize that i am no better than the Jdubs myself. For about six weeks now i have been going to a book study with a friend of my girlfriend. I act very interested, i give him the answers he wants to hear, i am the perfect and progressing study. I lie. I am so concerned for their souls, though. Every JW, i want to help them to know the true God and the nature and salvation of His son Yehsu. I am doing this to continue my relationship with my girlfriend. Our continuing became contingent on my studying and deciding that i would become a JW. I am so in love that it is hard to say no or that i do not believe. I have expressed my concerns with the organization to her. I feel like this is the only thing keeping us alive right now, though. She said that she would give up everything to be with me, meaning she would be disfellowshipped for me. I have already caused her to be DF'd. So do i continue my study, waiting for the opportunity to share the true faith with all the Jdubs i can, or stop. It is very interesting, though. Its a bit of a hobby to me. I am a religious studies minor (rockchalk Jayhawk!!!), and i studied with the Latter Day Saints never intending to be baptized into the faith (they decided i was wasting their time, what with my non-progression and all my faith destroying questions). I want to continue, but i do not want to lower my standards and live a lie.

It has always ammused me how non-mainstream apocalyptic denominations claim to have the true religion. Two that come to mind are the Latter Day Saints and Jehovah's Witnesses. Both claim there was once some great apostasy when Satan the Devil removed God's true faith frome this world! Somehow they believe the Bible survived, being canonized by apostates and itself being a copy of a copy of a copy. Their logic is irrational. Unfortunately they have explainations for it all. The New Light and what not. They claim God would never allow the Bible to be destroyed and altered from its true inspired form, yet apparently God allowed his true organization to disolve from this Earth. Perhaps another alien world needed it and God could only allow his true faith to be at one world at a time, but then agian, I always thought God was universal.

That is quite a story. I can't believe they did not forward your letters! It sounds like they really had it out for your family. Reading stories like yours and so many others gives me hope. I had, untill a few weeks ago, thought i was the only one experiencing a bad situation with the WTS. Now i have come to see that all congregations are the same. They are all judgemental. It seems if you make a mistake you are condemned and sentenced before your trial. We are here to help each other. Please keep the posts coming, I look forward to hearing more from you.

The overall theme of the book of Ezekiel is hope for the restoration of Israel. To give his people this hope Yahweh through his prophet Ezekiel speaks harshly against their enemies. Ezekiel, a mere man, writes these words for all to hear and we can read them in chapters 25-32. I think it would have been much more reassuring to tell my fellow chosen people that our enemies would be destroyed forever with their cities destined to be a rock never to be rebuilt. What kind of confidence would this have given the people if they had known that at some time the cites would be restored to a new glory. Granted, Tyre is not the place it used to be, but times have indeed changed. Yahweh did not lie, but he gave Ezekiel the power to bring hope to the people of Israel. Hope for a new restored nation with a new temple in which to humbly worship their God. Ezekiel is a book of encouragement. Yahweh punished israel for their sins, but because He still loved them and still had a future for them, they were able to return to their land as foretold.

And i agree with you fully on that point, Tor. Like i said, a figurative interpretation is in order. I know there are problems in the Bible. I also believe that to focus on small, literal errors and to keep dwelling on them is to miss the point of the Bible itself. I have no hidden agenda. If 607BCE is disproved or proved, it won't make one lick of difference to me. It's not going to rock my faith. Of course, my faith does not depend on dates or any tangible evidence. Isn't that the difinition of faith anyway, believing in something we can not see bu know is true? I sometimes wonder if the WTS would crumble if they changed thier doctrine about 607BCE, but somehow managed to uphold 1914.

Chill out all!!! Don't flame me. I take no sides in this debate. I am an innocent bystander. Like i said, i think i agree, but with this new light, i am going to have to say that i do not in full. It is all a matter of interpretation. Does Tyre exist as it did in Nebuchadrezzars time? No. Has it been rebuilt? Sure. If we want to assume a literal desolation as defined by the WTS, then we can only come to the conclusion that this time has not yet come. This, i believe, in no way violates biblical prophecy as we are not supposed to know when these things are going to occur. With that said, i do believe it is a little weird that it did not occur around 600 BC or so. Perhaps a figurative interpretation is in order. The bible is very poetic after all. Of course we have King James to thank for that. Not to say that the psalms or the other "writings" weren't already poetic.

I am going to have to agree (at least i think i'm agreeing, not really sure at this point) with 3rdW. The prophecy of Tyre was fullfilled but not until 322 B.C. (or is that 302 B.C.E.) by Alexander the Great. However this gets us no closer to proving or disproving 607 BCE, if that is indeed the point of this thread. I believe the Bible is useful for chronology, but i think it was stated earlier that prophecy is not necessarily equal to chronology. I also do not agree with taking verses out of the context of their books. If i could always do that, i could prove who assasinated JFK!!!
