Is questioning at the bookstudy still allowed?
by yaddayadda ini remember when i was a kid it wasn't unusual for someone to ask a question of the conductor during the bookstudy.
not that often but occasionally.
in my most recent years as a dub i can't recall anyone ever asking any questions.
-
SirNose586
One bookstudy, two sisters asked questions of the conductor. He's Brooklyn-trained, but was still somewhat irritated at being asked questions during the study.

Wow, for the first time, I really didn't find that funny. There was a time when I would've agreed with it completely. Man, someone's frustrated, eh?

Elders that don't want to talk about spiritual things
by VM44 insomeone a month or so ago posted a comment here at jwd about how they were surprised that when elders got together, for instance for dinner or some other non-congregational activity, that they seldom or never talked about the bible or spiritual matters.
(if anyone remembers who made that comment, please let me know!
been trying to find the original thread for hours!).

Someone here at JWD said that at the bookstudy they went to ice cream was served afterwards!
Now that is an incentive to hurry up and get over with the study! :)
Yeah, that happened for me quite some time ago. It was the greatest bookstudy EVER. Cake and ice cream were GUARANTEED after every study. I do miss it, I really do.

What repulsive screed. I have to read this nonsense tomorrow. I guess I'll get a good workout in reading filth with a PERKY SMILE!
You went to town on this one Blondie, though more can be said on this subject. I'm in California, and already I can smell the desperation wafting over from Brooklyn. It's quite funky.
The search continues for the missing Jesus! Will he turn up in the next article?? Only time will tell!

Pluto is no longer a planet!
by SirNose586 inwell folks, read it and weep.
they've made it tough for you and me, they really have.
"my very elegant mother just sat upon nine...." nine what, you jerkpiece astronomers??
-
SirNose586
So basically Pluto is being SHUNNED??
Yes. But maybe it can show repentance, and learn to clear Neptune's orbit. Wouldn't want to rebel and be out of order in the Solar Organization, right? Besides that, it needs to gain more mass so it can meet the Solar average.
In the meantime, the loving thing to do would be to not acknowledge it. Some time outside of the Solar Organization will help it to see that there's a right way to go about being a planet. Do not say a greeting to Pluto. It's allowed to maintain orbit, but that's about it.

JW sighting at the supermarket
by Scully inlast weekend i was picking up a few things for dinner and was just ringing through the order when i noticed the person behind me examining the cake i was buying a little too closely.
it was a jw woman we used to know.
apparently she was hell bent on figuring out whether this cake was for some kind of celebration (it wasn't) so she could run back to her husband the elder and try to cause trouble for me.

Good work, buffalosrfree. Him being a jerkpiece is the greatest witness you could help him give. I mean really, would it have killed him to return your greeting? He wasn't under obligation to shun you. Instead he gets a handful of people who know what the dubs are really about.

There used to be this sister in our hall who had a ukelele. She kept threatening to bust it out and play kingdom melodies.
I seriously can't stand these witness get-togethers if they involve certain people. I was once invited to see a video about the dubs in Malawi. Knowing about that and what happened in Mexico around the same time, I declined. Besides, I would've been bored to tears. I bet they played Bible charades after the video.

How Accurate is Your Bull$h!t Detector?
by Scully ini think everyone has a bs detector, but not everyone utilizes theirs, or ignores its warnings.. i find that mine seems very sensitive and unless i "feel" sincerity from the person i am sizing up, my bs detector has various levels of "alert" mode.. in "yellow alert" mode, i tend to be very guarded with personal information until the individual's behaviour identifies whether i should maintain that status quo or not.
this seems to be my default setting, i think, because i tend to use it with all new people i encounter.. in "orange alert" mode, there's something about the person that just is not meshing with me.
they may be trying to cross a boundary that i do not want them to cross, like bestowing a nickname on me without asking me if i'm ok with it first.

Mine has always worked to a degree--mainly because being a dub throws the calibration off. For example, I went on a job interview not long ago. Long story short, it was a bait-and-switch deal that I could smell just a moment before it went down. I should've listened to my BS detector and not've gone at all, but I didn't think ditching an interview would be good.
I can smell fraud moneymaking schemes, and fraud products. People are a bit harder. People who complain of hunger always get my sympathy, because I have the stereotypical hunger drive of a male my age. But people who are trying to put one over on me for my money? I never fail those.

Name Things JWs Try To "Demonize"
by minimus inthe witnesses are always trying to scare the faithful by telling them that if they don't adhere to the teachings and lifestyle of the brotherhood-----that bad things are going to happen to them.
for example, they might tell you of brother regret who left the "truth", had "fun" in the "world" and then got aids.
now he's back in the "truth" but he only has months to live................can you think of other examples of how the witnesses try to spook the rank and file?

Thanks for the explanation, Katie and Cuckoo. I certainly know that I'm not selling anything in my trunk (a subwoofer and some tools).
