  How the new "generation" study went down in the meeting today

  i made a big effort to get to the watchtower study today.

  i have not been to the meetings much for months, but i figured this was a pretty historic "study" and i wanted to see reactions and how it would go down locally.

  well a few things struck me as a bit odd in the study itself, and in the audience response as well.

  Here's my fearless prediction: They will keep the 144,000 number as literal, but allow the number of "anointed" ones to grow without limit. I.e., a return to the "2 heavenly classes" of Russell's time.

  I don't think anyone's creative enough to bring things back to that old light. Even though they opened the door just a crack to let the post-1935 annointed in, something tells me that they are still interested in keeping heaven tightly shut. A figurative 144k would be the easiest fix to their slightly opened door.

  Why ARE They Called 'Pioneers'?

  i was reading another thread about the witnesses so-called "pioneer school," and there occured to me the question as to why these people are called pioneers.

  i may be wrong on this [and may someone please correct me if this is indeed the case], but to my knowledge, the word pioneer does not appear in any manuscript of the bible.

  in any case, because my curiosity was piqued, i looked up the etymology, the "true root" meaning of the word.

  *** w82 3/1 pp. 16-17 par. 4 Jehovah’s Valiant Army of Full-Time Fighters ***Why is "pioneer" an appropriate designation for Jehovah’s Witnesses who can be full-time preachers? The word originally had a military connotation, relating to a soldier, though not an ordinary foot soldier. It connoted a military engineer, one who preceded the main body and built bridges, roads and trenches. Hence, "to pioneer" came to mean to prepare or open the way, and a "pioneer" was one who took the lead, forging ahead in the face of odds or opposition, as the early settlers of the North American West did. The term suggests an individual who is intrepid, one who presses ahead until his goal is realized. What an apt description this is for those who are self-sacrificing "soldiers" of Christ Jesus full time!

  Funny thing about that....I have a game called "Company of Heroes." It's a WWII real-time strat game. You can play against the game in a non-campaign format as either the Axis or the Allies. The Allies have Engineers, and the Axis have Pioneers!!

  Education and apostasy are the same, right?

  over the past year or so, i have noticed that the watchtower has been jumping all over two "threats" to the organization: higher education and apostasy.

  many times they speak about them in the same article.

  they also have been focusing on them in the assemblies and conventions.

  Does anyone remember the pic about the apostates at end of 1000 yrs.....

  it was a picture about those who would take a final stand against the new world order like a camp outside of the true worshippers.

  so satan would be let loose for a little period and then anyone who agrees with satan ...ends up looking like keith richards with earings and is deserving of death.. anyone remember the pic?.

  Because calling them "suckers" wouldn't help with the recruiting goals.

  I certainly felt like a sucker when I auxed a few years back. Worst. Month. Ever.

  Nazi Attandants at the DC, any stories?

  i remember at the last dc in the bathroom their was an attendant and his job was to pass out one paper towl for each person after they washed their hands.

  i asked him for another because i wanted to blow my nose and he said "you have enough".

  again, another wake up moment for me.

  Can you believe that this attendant still would not back down and started arguing with the convention overseer. The attendant ended up losing his "job." It turned out he had hassled several others including the CO's MIL.

  That's what happens when a shell of a man gets a tiny bit of authority in his life...he has to run with it like crazy, because when the fantasy world of the convention is over, life on the bottom ain't much fun.

  I'm sorry to hear that happened to you, Blondie. At least the prick got busted down a peg.

  Although I don't have as much as you've had to give up....I do in some ways wish I could relocate and create an entirely new me from scratch. Or just the same me without the hangups and blind friends. But then I remember that I'm sometimes allergic to the unknown...

  I guess you really are living up to your name, Metamorphosis! Catepillar to the butterfly! Or...shoot I don't know...a cicada...
