i was speaking with a lady today & found out she's been a nurse in the blood transfusion unit at our hospital for the past 15 years.
i said, "i have an off-the-wall question for you...i was having a discussion with somebody about jehovah's witnesses.
i know they're not allowed to get blood transfusions but they can get fractions, right?
Well, that's what happens when people are deluded enough to think that they are part of a special group. My "worldly" aunt told me that she was pissed about the jw sense of entitlement. She said that there were many times that she passed on gently used clothing and household items to my jw mom to pass on to her friends, (all, of course, were jws). Yet not one person in the group ever offered my aunt anything in exchange.
Offering verbal thanks or reciprocating generosity is optional for future bird food.
it's ridiculous.
i saw this so much in my 44 years in the jehovah's witness cult.
whether it was elders, pioneers, or other people in the cult criticizing others for working too much at their employment or missing some service or meetings due to employment.
Just to add to the "pioneer bribing" stories, some months ago I ran into a young JW who was asked not to attend SDSU for college. If he went to the community colleges instead, his folks would get him an apartment and pay his rent!
Maybe it doesn't fit into the mold exactly, but the point was the same--don't go to college!!
well, it finally happened.
a week ago sunday my fiancee and i were sitting in the living room drinking coffee and watching the morning talking heads when we heard the crunch of tires on the gravel in the driveaway, about 10:30 or so.
we looked at each other with that "are you expecting anyone?
Way to stand up to those jerks. I'm really glad for you, Rich, and the life you've won away from the Borg. In fact, there's been a lot of good news lately!
it's ridiculous.

I remember the time when I was 17 years old. My parents retired to Florida and I lived in Massachusetts. I was working at $7/hr. I was living alone and it took everything I had to just pay rent. Food was a luxery, I had the oppertunity to work overtime at the cost of missing the meetings (except for Sundays) and I took it. I was so exhausted from work, I found it hard to wake up on time for the Sunday Talk but, nevertheless I was there. One day my truck broke its clutch. I thought of the people they made examples of in third world countries who have to walk miles to the meetings and cross rivers filed with piranhas to get there. I thought this is my "piranha filled river" and still I was going to make it. I grinded the gears, power shifting my beat up truck, and made it to the meeting. Only to have the elders that very day, tell me that missing the meetings was unexceptable, and I was to be stripped of all my priveleges. I told them my circumstance, and asked for help from the elders. I even gave them the piranha filled river speach. All they said to me after that was, "If you can't afford to live on your own, you should go live with your parents." I was shocked! These people were supposed to be my family. Yet they never gave me help. I later walked to work. An elder stopped by my place and talked with me and asked why I haven't gone to the meetings. I said, the Kingdom Hall is 10 miles away and its 30 degrees out. Luckily my job was about a mile away. He offered to give me a ride but said I had to pay him $5 a day to get there!!!!! I told him to leave, and I never went back to that Kingdum Hall again.
Man, I'm glad those elders were such pricks to you. And to think, had they helped you out and really acted like "hiding places from the wind," then you might still be there. Or maybe not, I don't know your story. But the point is, I really and truly hope that the good dubs remain on the bottom, and the bad ones climb the ranks. That way, more and more people wake up to the madness.
What I thought was fairly interesting was the really well off dubs in the wealthier part of the city who openly talked about their next car purchase, next vacation, etc., and the fact that maybe 50 miles away, a witness couple is deciding to sell one of their cars, move into a studio, etc., just to get rid of "worldly distractions." The contrast amazed me.
ok..ive been separated for 8 months now.
want to file for divorce and just get it over with.
guy at work (he is day shift i am night shift) i have known about a year and a half has been wanting to go out.
Sir...yeah really. I went back over everything I ever said looking for somewhere where I might have indicated otherwise but I was very very specific that I didnt want him to CALL me every dayl. That this is PLATONIC that we are only FRIENDS. I think he thinks that if he just had the opportunity he could convince me "he is the one" somehow. Seriously...it went from 0 to 60 in like one day. :*(
Wow, that's waaaay too fast. Escalation can be good if there's basis for it, but because he can't tell what real signs of interest are, he latches on like a pit bull.
He must have no prospects other than you.
In the past, I would have knocked "speed-dating" places, but for this dude, I think he could use some of that...
okay, i'm dating myself, record albums and all that, but i remember as a kid in the 80's, everyone was playing their albums backwards looking for some hidden satanic message.
my older brothers got talked into throwing a couple of their moody blues albums away.
anyway, it was all the craze in my hall.
Hmmm, I wonder why the WT didn't make any articles on pareidolia?? Then those elders would have known what was going on.

What a crazy stalker guy...yeah, ditto on everyone's points. Please don't lead this guy on, he is delusional and you'd be feeding his delusion.

the bible says there is no greater gift than you lay down your life for another, the bible refers to blood as life.
i conclude we should all give blood.. and chalam replied:.
I did sometime around mid-August. I'm due to go again, but I'll hold off while I'm sick.

it raises the question that the point of view of many society illustrations is from above, a kind of bird's eye view, looking down on to the scene.. and since the society spends so much time mulling over every detail of their illustrations the point of view from above has to be chosen on purpose.. if this is the case then it speaks volumes about the way the governing body wants to be perceived as being higher, looking down on things.. and it would give the r&f the feeling that they are being watched.. what do you all think about this?
Yeah, of the multitude of things the Borg leaders can be criticized for, I think the downward angle of these pictures is a non-issue. Maybe the answer is as simple as an art director--or whoever selects the photos--who just prefers an aerial angle on the shots. I don't know how worthwhile it is to get upset over such a thing.
Until they've got a photo of the current governing body standing in heaven, looking down on the rank & file, I'm not going to draw any conclusions.
It's better to take issue with the condescending words they've got in the articles, rather than the aerial angle of the pictures.
