  i missed this point the first time i read ray franz's book " crisis of conscience " 3 years ago.

  but it leaped off the page at me the second time around reading it this time.

  on page 28 in discussing how secretive the gb meetings are and only rarely will an outsider be let in to gb meetings to give a report- then were sent away out of the room so the gb could continue meeting in secret.. franz in discussing financial issues states on pg.

  Ever since they compartmentalized the power in 2000, it seems more and more like the GB are like necessary figureheads for the real power behind the scenes. They maintain the religious front while someone else knows what's really going on.

  is it necessarily better to be raised a catholic, a jew, or even a non religious person, in the long run?

  I think the main issue with me is a feeling of confidence. I felt it only at rare moments, but never allowed myself to feel good about what I knew, or what I could do. I really bought into the whole not letting oneself have pride. I never wanted to be the outstanding nail that would just get hammered down.

  I'm working on all that, though. It's just tough sometimes.

  i found this article amusing for a variety of reasons and though i would share.. many of us here are faimliar with the "countercult ministries" that seem to be popular within evangelical christianity.

  these organizations make videos, books and websites, as well as hold seminars and conventions about how to "witness" to cult groups.. during my own exit from the watchtower i came in contact with a number of these organizaitons.

  Hmm, no wonder "Kingdom of the Cults" never really clicked with me. I read it to see what he had to say about JWs, but it was just another history lesson with the moral of the story being, "they don't believe like Christians should." I felt unimpressed--there was nothing about the mind control aspect, or very little.

  This is why Hassan's work continues to shine. His criteria cuts the ambiguity on a group's cult status like a razor, and he doesn't replace your beliefs with his own.

  right... so i've hung around on jwn for a while now, but i simply can't figure out where an ministerial servant stands in the hierarchy scheme of the wts.. there's the r&f or rank & file.. then there seems to be the microphone handlers, sound checkers, donation bin watchers, index card for territory managers, person who is in charge of the books, etc.. then there are elders.

  I still can't figure out how I got appointed--perhaps I should have asked for the job, and then they would have told me no!

  But yeah...all the above answers are valid. I just remember getting sent out to do various things the elders couldn't be bothered with doing. So yeah, you are like a sort of jockstrap. It's the organizational equivalent of Robin to a Batman. You get to help beat up the bad guys every so often, but you can't drive the Batmobile.

  yes, what was the biggest lie that you can think of, that persuaded you to realize that they were not who they said they were ?.

  for myself it would have to be the year they picked as the destruction of ancient jerusalem 607 bc.. i have an assumption this was done purposely to coincide correctly with making 1914 an a important pivotal date.

  in human history, which by all factual evidence it was not.. unassuming and deceiving manipulation for self marketing purposes.

  So many to pick from, it's hard to know where to begin. But I think the lynchpin lie is the one where they claim to have this sort of directive from God...something about being a faithful and discreet slave that was picked by God to publish his NooLight to the world. All the doctrine spring from that lie, and everyone's belief of that lie.

  yesterday, my wife and i was going for a walk in the neighborhood.

  she was carrying my niece and commenting on how heavy she is.

  i told her that apparently her sister has to carry her child, diaper bag, and her things to the bus stop every morning.
