I'd fall asleep. Then I'd be woken abruptly and I could spend some time trying to hide the drool on my lapel coat. I was so bored I actually cracked open the Bible and started reading. Then I'd be lectured for not paying attention to the speaker. I'd really try to focus on what he was saying, but it would always be nonsense, so I'd fall asleep. Rinse and repeat for 23 freaking years.

How do you cope with boredom at meetings?
by MMXIV inwhat did/do you use to cope with boredom at the meetings?.
as sad as this sounds, when i was a kid and desperate for anything to do at a meeting, i used to count the punctuation in each wt study article.
i had a system.

Atheist with crisis of conscience. Please help.
by parakeet ini'm an atheist having a serious crisis of conscience.
please help.. i've read many, many posts that talk about atheism as a faith as distinct as any other faith.
there has also been much made of the atheist lifestyle.. my dilemma -- i don't know what the atheistic faith entails.

We're supposed to be worshiping Charles Darwin, and his prophet, Richard Dawkins. Worship services are held in any house of ill-repute. Make sure you keep up your personal duty to be cross and contrarian to everyone you meet.

JW spanking their kids
by asilentone inwhat do you think about jw spanking their kids at the kingdom hall?
-
SirNose586
The rod was never spared on me. Hell, I remember trying to hide my parents' belts so I couldn't be spanked.
This is starting to bring up some really bad memories for me...
Yeah, I think I'll look into disciplining without resorting to violence. Those books would be good to research. Otherwise I'd be in danger of probably perpetuating the cycle.

"large but mainstream" brings what changes next?
by agent zero inin some other threads there has been talk of wether the organization will go large and mainstream or small and hard-core in the upcoming years.. in the past few years, the sunday public talk has been shortened, the bookstudy eliminated (at least as a seperate meeting night), #2 talks are down to a simple read-through, and a little longer ago pioneering hour requirements have been shortened.
personally i would take these as signs of them going more soft and keeping a larger membership.. if this is indeed the case, what would you suspect of being cut off or changed next?.

Teel, i like that one. i think everyone would rather spend 10 - 50 bucks a month than spend their saturday mornings knocking. and it would work out for the Society too.
Heck no! No one would do that. What happened to good old-fashioned fake hours?
Look, this is what I see happening in the future: they're already stretched so thin when it comes to middle-management. Not enough are stepping up. Maybe becoming an MS will be seen as more of an obligation for young men. Maybe they'll impress the young men into "rotating MS" status.
I really don't know what else they could cut back to scale costs down. But I could imagine them making a break for hardline measures that end up alienating more and more deadweight.

Sex Offender Sues For Right To Go Door to Door - Betrayed by WT for Lying
by Mythbuster inwhat he claimed was "required":.

lawrence bullard says he should be allowed to proselytize door-to-door twice a week with other witnesses, as their religion requires.. .

Bullard's sex conviction was in New York State. In 2001, Bullard broke up with a fellow church member, whom he was dating. Bullard's attorney says his client was upset and confused, and let himself into the woman's home. The lawsuit says he hid in her closet and, "At some point, he forcibly kissed her and fell to the floor on top of her. He then put his hands down her pants, touching her pubic area." The attorney says Bullard called police himself, and admitted to the crime.
How very interesting...the other topic about this same story indicated that this guy sexually assaulted his ex-fianceé. This article sounds like he assaulted the same woman that he broke up with...

Church blesses fathers with beer
by Mythbuster inhttp://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/religion/5587035/church-blesses-fathers-with-beer.html.
bottles of beer will be given to fathers who attend church, in an alternative "blessing" for father's day.. by jonathan wynne-jones, religious affairs correspondent.
published: 9:00pm bst 20 jun 2009. a senior bishop has backed the move, which is part of a church of england initiative to put a christian emphasis on the annual celebration of fatherhood.. concerns over the lack of men attending services year-round has led clergy to offer a range of incentives today, including free beer, bacon rolls and chocolate bars.. it is the first time that the church has attempted to treat fathers' day in the same way as mothering sunday, which has traditionally formed part of its calendar.. the plan to distribute ale has upset groups working to tackle alchohol abuse, but the rt rev john inge, the bishop of worcester, said that it could help churches to attract more men.. he argued that the free beer was intended to be symbolic of "the generosity of god".. men at st stephen's church in barbourne, worcester, will be handed bottles of beer by children during the service.

"When armageddon happens, I want to be able to SEE the people dying"
by jambon1 insaid to myself & others by a jw elder.. i always recall this as a sort of .
when this elder was pressed on the matter, he replied that it was because of all the years of laughing & sneering & mocking that he had put up with, quoting the scripture that goes along the lines of 'where is this promised presence of his'.. i realise now that this person is not loving.
and yet, i would hear similar sentiments from others such as 'just wait until the end' or 'i wonder if they'll be saying that when jesus comes with his big sword'.. even as a jw pioneer, the thought of such a thing happening to people repulsed me.

I remember taking refuge in that haughty attitude. "Well, you get me now, but Jehovah will kill you later!"
I'm glad to say I don't do that anymore. But I understand how it gives them strength to feel that way--or should I say, a false sense of strength. The truly strong don't need to wish for vengeance upon their enemies.

He was still a virgin when he was arrested and pleaded guilty to the Class E felony in New York, he says.
Bullard says he became engaged to another Jehovah's Witness in 1999. "Unfortunately, their relationship was a rocky one," he says in his federal complaint. They "argued frequently and broke up on numerous occasions." He says it was the first "serious relationship" he had ever had.
"On or about Dec. 16, 2001, after another break up, Lawrence went over to [his former fiancée's] house. He was angry at her, upset and confused. He let himself in when she was not home and hid in her closet waiting for her to come home."
When she arrived, he says, he "confronted her. And they argued. At some point, he forcibly kissed her and fell to the floor on top of her. He then put his hands down her pants, touching her pubic area."
He says he "immediately realized that he made a serious mistake, in violation of both his faith and the law." He says he called the police from the lobby of his ex's apartment building, and waited there until they arrested him.
After pleading guilty to the class E felony, Bullard says he was classified as a low risk, and sentenced to 10 years of probation and ordered to register as a sex offender.
In 2008, "because of his trouble-free adjustment to probation, he says, he "was placed on non-reporting status."
Bullard, 37, says he has been married for 4 years.
Hmm! So he was born in '73, or possibly the latter half of '72. I love how they comment on his virginity. I think this has a big role to play in all of this.
Let's do the math: the crime happened in December 2001, when he was either 28 or 29. Damn, going that long without getting laid would drive anyone crazy! Also, consider the fact that he had been engaged for some amount of time before it was cut off at 26 or 27. The second fianceé was his "first serious relationship"? How do you get engaged without having some sort of serious relationship, unless you're mentally unbalanced? Or very desperate? Think about it...he wanted to legally get laid, so he got engaged with random chick #1, but the lust wasn't enough, and it broke off.
He tries again with random chick #2, but once more, getting married to get laid wasn't good for her. So the second engagement gets cut off and he goes back to #1. Can anyone guess what they argued about? I can! "Why didn't we ever do the deed? Why wasn't I good enough for you?" And then he sexually assaulted her. He did it because he made a disgusting decision to relieve his sexual tension upon his former fianceé. At least the WT-inspired guilt and whatever shred of honor he had left prevented him from raping her (though what he did was just as bad, let's be clear about that).
This is the result of the screwed up marriage policy...if there'd been some way for him to get laid without having to commit to marriage, I don't think he would have become this desperate. When masturbation is wrong, and premarital sex is very, very, wrong, this is what happens. The WT says you must get married to get laid. And when it doesn't work out, what's a guy to do? It'll drive you crazy. That's why I'm happy for all the JW guys who conveniently break that rule and find ways to get laid, so they don't end up going crazy like this guy.
Another good lesson: change your locks when you change relationships.

Evil triplets: shunning, no contact with worldlies, and conditional love.
by dgp inas a non-jw, i am only beginning to grasp the real force of what i deem to be evil triplets, shunning, no contact with worldlies, and conditional love.
if you leave, you won't have any outside contacts and you will lose your family and friends; but, in the meantime, you are damned certain that you can't be sure they won't be taken away from you at any moment.. i think that the fact that true love and friendship can really develop among witnesses is a triumph of the human spirit.
how sad that anyone needs to bear all this..

SirNose586
That's why it's always good to hedge your bets. If I'd burned bridges with my non-JW friends (which almost happened), then I'd be in a very bad place.

Faders are indeed a large army...
by undercover in...and i think it's starting to show.. i started a thread the other day about being hounded after several years of having successfully(?
) faded.
i've been taken aback a bit the recent developments but i'm making a new strategy...one that depends more on sticking to my guns and laying the cards on the table.

SirNose586
And I'm glad to be among them! Long live the cold turkey faders, and may more and more just drop out without feeling the need to be accountable to the local BoE!
