Why So Many Young People Are Leaving The Watchtower
by Jeremy C ini have been giving a lot of thought to the young people who are leaving the watchtower organization in recent years.
last night, i was reading the thread posted by jwfacts a while back in which he provided some statistics and graphs showing the rapidly declining growth in the watchtower.
one factor that was discussed at length was the high number of young people who do not stay in the organization.

Getting rid of the Book Study - a way to isolate the JW?
by skeeter1 inthe book study meeting was cancelled a while back.
the watch tower said that it was to provide for a family study night and high gas costs.
hmmm.. i thought about the cancellation of the book study meeting after listening to another pastor discus his mega-churchs dependence on small circle groups.

Also it frees up another night to cram another congregation into the hall.

Poisonous Congregations and Incompetent Leadership
by Nickolas ini'm not sure where this topic belongs.
the adult & heated debate category, maybe, or jokes & humour.
guess we'll see.

Every congregation is different. I remember hearing about some congregations where the elders couldn't ever be bothered to start judicial committees until you confessed your "crime" to them. Must have been nice.

Compared to various other groups, there can not be said to be any burden at all.
Yeah, got to give it to ya, Hippie, as much as I grew to hate the C.O. arrangement, you can't call his visit a burden. Perhaps a temporary extra expense at best.
I liked the warm, friendly old C.O.s that came by. Shuen was good; Erskine was good too, had a lot of jokes. Don't know if anyone outside of socal knows these guys, but I really did like them. They had this humble nature and grandfatherly charm about them that I really couldn't find fault with. I was sad to see them move on.
Then there came these two company a**holes, Casino and Misterfeld. Misterfeld was named in the Encino lawsuit; perhaps he's someone people know. But Casino? Never liked the guy. Boring, coma-inducing tone of voice. Huge headed guy with slick silver hair, Brooklyn accent...he reminded me of Peter Popoff. Get this, he chewed out some sister because she described something as "cool." What???? That phrase has been around longer than he's been alive!! "Cool." And the greatest part about it was that she chewed him out in return, using Bible scriptures. Nice one. Take that you square company jerk! He was big on meeting punctuality, but really, that's when I started being critical of C.Os. Listen you pampered company man with a special dietary needs wife (weren't all C.O's wives like that??), these people bust their a**es at jobs all day, and then scramble back home to eat and get dressed, only to have them harangued for not doing enough. I really didn't think it was fair for a man who did nothing but drive around and have people kiss his a** tell others to get to the meetings on time. F*** you. Seriously.
Misterfeld, like Casino, was another company bore. Seriously, I got so many naps when they spoke. He was another square. And speaking of shapes, get this, gang: he gave everyone a "round tuit," a colored piece of paper in the shape of a circle. "So now," he'd smirk, "you can't say 'I'll get a round to it,' because now, friends, you have a round tuit." Ooooooh, I could have STRANGLED him with his nondescript necktie for that stinker. And he never liked reading the congregation stats, because as it turned out, they were falling in certain areas. For a couple years I didn't know what was going on...well, it was censorship. That was going on. Hated that guy.
So there is a point to all this: if the C.O's good at what he does, hey, why not foot the bill for him? Forget about these company jerks, though.

And secondly, I contrast this with the vibrant, enthusiastic and informed young people in the various JW congregations in my area.
So, speaking from my own direct personal experience, I can only say that I do not see young people (in my area anyway) leaving the Watchtower. Not en masse, though of course some are, just as some adults are.
And I see the same thing in my socal area, there's no massive leaving. Youths are leaving, but it's here and there. Do you know why? It's because they act however they freaking want! Why leave if you can get tattoos, sleep around, drink like sailors, and smoke a little bud without getting in serious trouble? The young people have created their own JW-lite culture, a clique that they can call their own. I saw some of my old crew, recently. You can't tell them apart from non-JW kids, you really can't. And that's the great thing--when they look and act like everyone else, then they'll grow up to be mediocre, in-name-only JWs.
The org can keep growing, for all I care. The integrity of the next generation is poor at best.
I gotta give credit to the Mormons and other churches for creating programs to keep young people in. They're thinking about future growth. The Borg just wants an endless stream of rank and file to replace the fallen.

WT message about Apostates
by mankkeli inbecause of listening to the devil and not rejecting his lies, the first human pair apostatized.
so, then, should we listen to apostates, read their literature, or examine their web sites on the internet?
if we love god and the truth, we will not do so.

How can "the first pair" apostatize from a time when there was no religion?

That Holy Spirit sure is a funny fellow!
by Aussie Oz inmusing the other day on times past and things i have learned.
i came to my appointment as a servant and also as a regular pioneer and bethel application.. i guess mr spirit figured that even though i was looking at porn frequently, he would just pop the idea of appointing me into the local elders heads.
as well as the circuit overseer of course.

Whats funny was while I never came out and directly said I didn't wan't to serve, I showed absolutely ZERO enthusiasm at the prospect. Even intentionally answering their questions in such a way so as to clearly indicate that I wasn't "qualified" to serve. This had no effect on their efforts to recruit me.
Show's you just how desperate they are.
Yeah, I tried the same thing too. They just told me, "By feeling you're not ready, you actually are, because you aren't desirous of a title."
So apparently I deserve the job because I don't want it.
Why didn't I just get up from the room and leave?

June Service Meeting part: Marriage, separation and divorce
by Quarterback ini'm curious as to why this is a national topic for a service meeting part?
has anyone any thoughts on this?.
-
SirNose586
Hmmm...just a crazy thought here. Maybe it wouldn't be best to railroad people onto a 6-month courtship that is expected to end in marriage. Maybe it'd be best to have some healthier, fresh ideas when it comes to marriage.
NAAAAH. Let's just keep doing what we're doing and hope it gets better.
