  JW's Value Position & Appearances over Displaying God's Qualities

  before some of the long time members here say to me " tell us something we don't know flipper " - please hear me out on this one.

  some of the newly exiting jw's may not know this info - but need to be made aware of it.. as a young man i was raised in the cult jehovah's witnesses and remained from birth until age 44 .

  i was never, ever asked by my elder father in all those years the question, " son, how is your relationship with jehovah doing ?

  I realize now that's what guided me in my time in the congregations. I was being groomed by the P.O. All the other kids weren't interested in moving up, or weren't meeting the minimum requirements for promotion. Because I couldn't fit in with them, I conformed to reaching out and handling assignments for MS status. Even my education conformed to the Watchtower accepted career of auto mechanic (which isn't a bad career, just not a passion of mine to become a car mechanic).

  Now I'm trying to fix the way things are...but my main motivation was staying in the good graces of those in power. What a mistake that was!

  this week's "Bible Study"

  it started with the comparison of "porneia" (all sexual practices outside of marriage) being a ploy of satan, as a "lure" that a fisherman uses to catch "fish.

  " all kinds of comments were made regarding internet porn, adultery, oral sex, etc, all being a device designed to trap jehovah's people, resulting in thier spiritual demise.

  i still have commenting priveleges, so i felt it necessary to mention live bait also having a "hook.

  I wouldn't be surprised if it did condemn all sexual activity. Maybe even vanilla missionary sex is being looked upon as a necessary evil?

  SEARCHING FOR MEN

  the kingdumb misery for august has an item on how to attract men - into da troof.. subsection "searching for men.".

  on the one hand they claim that the increases are so huge (in the mundane sense) that they desperately need men.. i took it to indicate that so many with penises are leaving, they are having trouble finding gofors to do their pedo protection work and witch hunting for apostates.. how things appear different now.. whereas before you were not to associate with unbelieving husbands, now they are suggesting helping him build a fence.

  it was even suggested playing golf, or at least finding out what he is interested in so you can talk about it.. if you meet a male in the ministry you should talk about what he is really into.

  When I saw that article in the KM, I immediately thought of the 1950's era article of nearly the same mould: "Why so few men?"

  That article showed the WT's reasons for believing why less men were attracted to religion in general. Their reasoning was sound. And now they know why they have a shortage here. Or at least they should. Who would willingly volunteer for a job that pays nothing, yet stresses you so much?

  I hope they lose men to such a critical level that New Light TM forces women to take MS-like leadership positions.

  the reason i ask is that my wife has her combo bookstudy/service meeting on tuesdays but she has another meeting at her hall tonight.

  Yeah, cantleave and undercover are right. When the CO comes, they have the bookstudy/speech and then service+school/speech, like old times.

  Compare Bethel with the LDS HQ in Salt Lake City

  i have been to both, bethel (all 3 complexes: brooklyn, walkill, paterson plus the jersey city stanley theater) as a teenager, and to tour the lds (mormon) complex in salt lake city as an adult.

  i did bethel as a "witness" child, and slc as a totally non-jw adult.

  the lds complex seemed more open to the public, inviting and comfortable.

  Thanks for the comparison. The Bethel HQ was touted as one reason why an outsider became interested in the org. "They were so clean, neat, well-dressed, well-mannered, etc," is a paraphrase of the man. Of course, the Mormons have the same qualities at their HQ too!

  Thanks for the link to your comparison of ex-Mormons and ex-JWs. Very similar except for a few areas.

  That "Let the Bodies Hit the Floor" vid is a favorite of mine. Hin's one of the more flamboyant snake-oil salesmen out there...too bad there are so many who are taken in by him. What's especially sad is viewing the faces of the suffering as they look at Benny, expecting a miracle.

  91 11/1 p.29 {special pioneers lifestory he has to mention a bad situation} "in may 1949 i informed headquaters in bern that i planned to marry marthe and we desired to remain in full-time service.
