  What's the intent of Mat.23:1-3 ?

  then jesus spoke to the crowds and to his disciples, saying: the scribes and the pharisees have seated themselves in the chair of moses; therefore all that they tell you, do and observe, but do not do according to their deeds; for they say things and do not do them.

  (mat.23:1-3 nasb).

  i've been wondering a lot about what these verses.

  Documentary Videos on Cults?

  recently, the history channel has had a couple of fairly decent/informational programs on cults and how they operate (one was a general overview and the other was on jonestown).

  i am wondering if there are any other wothwhile videos on/about cults, especially bible based cults available anywhere that do not come from the standpoint of trying to promote an alternative or more mainstream form of christianity.

  it would be really nice to see a documentary on how bible based cults work and how they 'cherry-pick' scripture to get members to surrender their free-will to do anything 'those taking the lead' tell them to do.

  Happy Feet!

  did anyone else happen to see happy feet and notice some remarkably 'jw-like' similarities between jw mechanics, attitudes, behvaior, and disfellowshipping and the exect parrallel activity within the emperor perguin community, their attitudes and behavior towards mumbles, the elder penguins comments, actions and disfellowshipping of mumbles,as well as mumbles' own father actions/talk towards his son?

  the likeness was uncanny..

  What will the new WT arragement mean for the meeting & lit arrangements?

  i'm not sure if this has been covered elsewhere, but after hearing the announcement, i got to wondering what affect the new wt distribution arragement may have on the meetings.

  also, is there any chance that they may move to a position of even more 'cloistering' of themselves, saying that only publishers (baptized and unbaptized) can go to the wt study, bookstudy, tms and sm, leaving only the public talk for 'the public' and df'd/da'd ones seeking reinstatement?

  might they move the wt study to some time other than immediately following the public talk?

  When is it ok to give gifts?

  so jw's don't "celebrate" christmas.

  what exactly does it mean to "celebrate christmas"?

  also, what are the dates (let's say between thanksgiving and new years) which jw's are forbidden to give/exchange gifts?

  i've recently just picked this book up by jason david beduhn and started giving it a read.

  i did a quick search of this site and was suprised to not have found any lengthy discussion of it.

  Do Kingdom Halls ever do the following?

  i am assuming that the sunday and tuesday services are open to the general public.

  do the kingdom halls ever stop someone from coming to these services simply becuase it is known that they dont agree with what is being taught (i.e an 'unbeliever')?

  how about if a known 'unbeliever' joins a 'believing' spouse for all the meetings?

  WTBTS /JW Organizational Structure

  is there a good source that outlines the organizational strucutre of the wtbts/jw present and past?

  one which also shows how the structure affects any legal proceedings against the organization?

  what is the difference between the way things are now as opposed to pre-2000 (which is when i think i read the last change occurred.
