Which just goes to prove how much those "Who's popular in here?" threads suck. People are always left out or forgotten and in turn have their feelings hurt and that sucks
i've been thinking about what its like to be born and raised as a jw and the mistakes that parents make as an almost direct result of this cult.
for one thing, the children are not allowed to think freely, and if they say or do one little thing their parents disapprove of, they are chastised and basically bullied into abandoning that thought or action.
another thing is that no matter what you do, and no matter how good your reputation is among friends, teachers, administrators, etc if you don't want to go to meetings, and don't believe in this faith, they do what they can to make you feel lower then dirt for this and will often resort to verbal abuse, and sometimes violence to force you to believe in them and conform.
One thing I have noticed a lot of in my ExJw friends is the general sense of low self esteem. To the outside world they all come across as very confident pleasant people but they have all said that this is just a front they put on to the world. I call it my field service face. The ability to be friendly and confident when talking to people, even if you feel like crap inside.
I've also found us lot to be lacking in emotional intelligence. We dont grow up knowing how to relate to people that aren't emotional and intellectual clones of ourselves. We don't engage in arguments, we do that field service thing and turn off. We have trouble with anger management because we've been taught not to get angry, not unless its righteous indignation.
Growing up in the org leaves us emotionally disfunctional.

Don't know if this can be classed as a JW teaching as such but as I've never heard anyone from another religion mention it it might be...
When you're little being told that if you're bad Jehovah will send a "she-bear" to come and rip you up. Laughable today but when you are six its terrifying. I can remember running past the bushes in the car park outside the hall because I was convinced there was a she-bear waiting for me behind them.

from personal experience men need to feel loved, wanted and appreciated but have a bypass from romance.

I don't think a man bringing you flowers in a beginning of a relationship is coming on to strong or that they have alterior motives. I think that is some men's way of showing that they have feelings for you and would like to know you better.
From an aliens point of view.. The giving by males of dismembered vegetable sexual organs to the female of the species indicates that "they have feelings" for them and " would like to get to know them better"

what crazy or bazarre things have you heard of people getting into trouble with in the org?
could you for instance be dfs for eating lots of black pudding (blood pudding)?
have you heard of people losing there privileges over ridiculous things?
A friend of mine's father in law was sent to prison for incest and child abuse, which included the FIL having sex with my mates wife before he married her. The FIL was release from jail and turned up down at the hall. It was the first time his family had seen him since his release and they went running up to him to hug him. My friend lost his temper and thumped the FIL there and then. Because he wasn't repentant for thumping his FIL down the hall he got df'd for technically hitting a brother even though that monster had rapped or attempted to rape all three of his daughters between the ages of 10 and 16.

Did anyone else look at the whole "eternal life on a Paradise earth" scenario and think...that doesn't really sound like much fun! I mean
yeah, you get to live forever peacefully with a bunch of people and animals. But then there's the things that don't seem to add up quite
right.
Like those pics of animals playing with colourful balls. Who's going to make all those balls. Somewhere in the new system there must be a ball factory, which means that for someone paradise means working in a factory making balls for lions to pop with their claws. Plastic balls mean that somewhere there's going to be a plastic factory, pumping out toxic fumes and someone has to work there making plastics and of course if you want to make plastic you're going to need crude oil so somewhere in the new system in this paradise on earth someone's going to have to be drilling for oil...
