I have a similar problem. My son does not go to meetings anymore (he is 12), but his father and his grandmother pressure him to baptize. I am trying to show him the light, but he is so conditioned to be scared of it, that I am afraid to say too much and push him away. Grrr. (My mom wants us to come over so she can give him the new magazines this weekend and thinks he should be going to the meetings.)

District Conventions
by EAGLES ini hadnt been to a d.c. in about 10 years is it really true that congragations have to sit together now????
whats up with that is it so that the elders can see who's there and who isnt.
that would blow my scam from way back when i would maybe make one half of one day and tell people i made all 4 days.

And there is actually a "police" type person who monitors to make sure that the brother is reading the manuscript word for word. I don't know what they are going to do if he veers off-course - I asked one of the police brothers once and he shrugged and said it had never happened, but he thought he was supposed to turn the sound off.

Is WTS chronology flawed?
by cultswatter inhistorians agree that jerusalem was invaded by babylon in 586/587bce.
the wts discredits most historical records and says that jerusalem was invaded in 607bce.
the wts start with 587 and add the 70 years that jerusalem lay desolate to obtain the 607 date.. if jerusalem was invaded in 587 then it lay desolate for only 50 years (587-537=50).

Just read something interesting in the library last night - Rutherford on Pyramidology (not the WT Rutherford, but maybe related?) - the 607 date comes from the Pyramid thing - exact same chart in the book that is in my Studies in the Scriptures volume.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pyramidology - found the link on it.
Oh - and their "new light" on pyramids..... funny they don't mention in the article that their entire belief system (1914, 607 and more) was based on a pyramid, but the WT names their religion aptly in their own publication...
- here is the upshot of the article...
*** w56 5/15 p. 300 The Great Pyramid of Giza ***
Thus, this most logical explanation of all as to the reasons underlying the construction of the Great Pyramid of Giza would indicate that it certainly was not built by those engaging in the true worship of Jehovah God but by those devoted to astrology, a manifestation of Devil religion
, and was built in furtherance of such religion. -

If "My Book Of Bible Stories" was a movie, what would it be rated?
by gaiagirl indiscussing movies at work this week, someone mentioned "sin city", a very violent film about honest cops, corrupt cops, and criminals.
in this film, justice is administered harshly, and sometimes cruelly.
however, the film also shows really evil people receiving "just desserts".

I loaned my copy of the Noah movie (JW) to a return visit and she said it was way too violent for her children. I remember being very puzzled by it. Guess that was what I was raised with. I do remember nightmares over one of the cassette dramas.... I think it was Miriam with the leprosy.

baby killer
by the dreamer dreaming inmany have read 2 sam 12 and simply kept going without seeing that mythical jewish god has murdered a baby because he liked king david.
it seems that believers can justify their fraud almighty no matter what crime he commits.
can anyone serve a baby killer out of love and respect?

Well, pretty much it was a strong suggestion that each congregation had an assigned section for cleaning, and therefore it would be helpful or "you might want" to sit in your section for "easy access" to the cleaning. I don't think it has been mandated yet.
As far as pioneers getting the good seats, I think that happened a lot because they are the ones who show up a day ahead for cleaning duty, and early for parking and etc. Therefore, they pour in at 8am and save seats.

Wonder how long he will stay an elder when they find out he is involved in worldly charities?
The Betty Foley Memorial Award. The award will recognize those who best exemplify the giving spirit of late Jersey Journal staffer Betty Foley, who covered religion and news for the paper and coordinated the Hudson County Spelling Bee and Science Fair. In her personal life, Foley was committed to volunteer service with her church, the College Community Orchestra and the YMCA of Jersey City. -

When you were in field service....
by lavendar indid you ever have anyone, at the door, say something to you that created a seed of doubt in your mind about the wts?
something at all that started you thinking "maybe i'm really not in the truth".
i would be interested in hearing about that.. thanks,.

yeah. What got me was not so much what was talked about but the fact that the elder I was with would not reason or talk and seemed very afraid of whatever she was talking about. He was so totally rude to her that I felt like I had to be the nice guy. I ended up at her church a couple years later....
