Purloining a WT CD-ROM is the best way to go. Notice that what they put on the CD is not always what appeared in print (not that they will tell you this) - and that the "old" pubs (and the AID book) are significantly absent. On those, you can buy CDs on eBay sometimes of all the old pubs - I think there is a Catholic site that has the old WTs.

Jws and Family
by VanillaMocha73 inok, so i have another thing to chalk up to the watchtower.
this weekend my dad told my husband that my mother actually asked my dad to divorce her because she didn't want to be married to an unbeliever and he wasn't going to get baptized.
not so much the story my mom told me all those years ago..... .

They have been divorced since I was 16.... Dad got the divorce and remarried - he wasn't a JW so I guess it didn't really matter. Yes, the cult has more damaged lives chalked up to it that I even care to think about. All I can do is pray and hope I can do my part to prevent more damage.

I remember being so devastated when my dad left home that I went through a bout with anorexia / depression that nearly did me in. Thanks, Watchtower!!!!!

Spent many hours doing this street work stuff and / or parking lot witnessing. Back in the day, street work was also known as the "courting grounds" - where all the singles paired off while the unsuspecting parents were away. You got to meet all the specially spiritual regular pioneers bros from other congregations. (Oh, I mean the abusers and pedophiles...) Spent much more time talking to each other than to people....
Parking lot witnessing was just another excuse to sit in a car full of 5-8 people, gossip, drink coffee and burn gas. Every now and then we would have a discussion about whether to approach a car with a person in it. We'd only talk to cars that had people just sitting there in the parking lots (how many of those do you see at 5am on Saturday?).. and then only single people - no cars with more than one person. The funnest time was talking to the drunks at the casino. Entertainment value was high.

Well, the story about her being a JW and then the holiday parties and him living with her and stuff didn't fit at all. Was wondering if the GF is not who she represents herself to be at all......

Your feelings are pretty normal. They will get better over time - just keep going!!! I don't know if the hurt ever goes away entirely, but it does get better.

Your experience is a common one. My last meeting - I was so alone and so sick that I had a very visibly difficult time even walking down the KH aisle. They didn't care at all. My worldy co-workers took one look at me the following day at work and wanted to call 911. I truly think my ex-husband would not be as bad as he is if he didn't constantly have the Borg making him feel inadequate and unworthy. While that might not physically kill in itself, it surely does take a toll on its members.

For Those Raised in "Da Troof" Would Your Life Had Been Better If...
by XJW4EVR inyou had been raised by the same family, but in a different religion, or non-religious home?
i am not addressing birthdays or holidays.
i am thinking about everyday life.. the reason i ask, is that so much of our parents problems may have been caused, or enhanced by "da troof.

Definitely.
- I would have gone to school and completed college well before I was 18, and probably had a better job now. (I graduated high school at 12).
- I would have had the needed back surgery to correct my spine when I was young - I didn't get it because the New System was coming so why go through it?
- My parents would probably have taught me about saving for retirement, investing and basic money management skills - but instead the attitude was "Why save money and worry about the future? New system is coming."
So, in short, I would likely have been better educated, struggling a lot less financially and able to stand up straight and breathe completely.

"At times, an elder may not do things as directed by the faithful slave class and its Governing Body. If he continues acting this way, he will have to render an account to Jehovah, "the shepherd and overseer of [our] souls." (1 Peter 2:25) But any failure or mistakes on the part of certain elders would not justify an insubordinate attitude on our part. Jehovah does not bless disobedience and rebellion.-Numbers 12:1, 2, 9-11."
Translation: At times an elder may sexually molest you or your children. If he continues doing this, Jehovah will take care of him someday. But if we speak up or fail to submit or have a bad attitude about this elder, Jehovah will not bless us.
That sound reasonable to you?

If you could ask an elder your questions
by Heather inwhat question do you want to ask or have you asked that would stump or have stumped an elder?
i'm in the position where my mom wants me to come back and wants me to have my questions answered (even though she has dodged most of mine) so that i will once again see its the truth and want to return.
so i'm going to set a meeting with an elder to see if he would be willing to attempt to answer some of my questions to prove to me beyond a doubt that i'm in the wrong.

If they can be a member of the UN without being DF'd, why can't we be members of the YMCA without being df'd?
Will the people from Sodom and Gomorrah be ressurected or not? Has God made up His mind about that?
Where did they come up with 607 BCE from when every history book contradicts this?
Why do we accept dates based on pyramidology (1914) when we are supposed to flee from occult practices? Whatever happened to 1975?
How about the difference in treatment of Mexican brothers and Malawi brothers in regards to neutrality?
Do you get df'd for a blood transfusion? How come the brothers guaranteed the government in Russia that they won't? Is the Russia JW God different?
