What is wrong with my family?

i love my family.

but i've been stressed and depressed because of them.

and i just need to gain some understanding.. being raised in a jw family laid alot of pressure and guilt on me.

I agree with Bendrr that you ought to leave that house. You are much to old to be hit. I know that you may feel mixed about you have been taught and the way that you are treated. It's all that you've known. A parent may give a child a spanking for discipline because they love that little child but it is not the same thing to hit a 22 yr. old woman. That was not done out of love but out of fear and control. The fear stems from being a JW. They teach some very cunning and false things which enable them to control others out of fear. That is not a healthy Godly fear. They are not the truth Nickey. I know that there is a place in your heart that knows that they are not right about some things. Trust that place in your heart. So many people have been damaged by them....and it is time to take control of yourself and seek what you truly believe. The fear and control of men is not of God. I'd appreciate it if you would come back to this discussion. I know that when I am personally insulted, I tend to leave the computer and go on with my day because it seems foolish to purposefully subject myself to nonsense. There used to be an ignore feature and I wish that we still had that but we don't so I have to use my mind's ignore feature...lol... There are people who are hurting here because of the judiciary meetings instead of going to the authorities and that is an emotional outrage for victims. I do hope that you can try to understand why some posters are rather heated. I don't know if TH has been personally abused or not. He tends to be an emotional person who lashes out. I am not apologizing for him because that isn't my place but I am saddened by the fact that we seemed to be on the same page about Romans 13 and I understood you to be in agreement with me. Naturally, I'm bothered that your postings stopped after that. I see you as a person who desires to do right even though sometimes your posts are a bit rude too....lol....I don't think that you would be here if you truly believed that the wt was God's sole channel of communication. There is a possibility that they some wrong things, isn't there? They are imperfect, right? Yet, if they teach something that is wrong and demand that we must all believe that wrong teaching and teach it to others.....our consciences bother us. When the wt changes the teaching with new light which then is in agreement with what I thought all along, but was forbidden to speak.... I don't think that's right. We know that the society has changed the interpretation of Romans 13 a few times with reference to whom the "authorities" are. It's clear to me that it means the earthly government not the wt....It speaks of paying taxes, etc.. It's my opinion that the past faulty interpretations by the wt with this chapter may have caused them to distrust the police as God's arrangement. They now have changed back to teaching that the authorities are the gov./police but it seems to me that they haven't adjusted to it fully because they still act as if they are the police, judge and jury.when it comes to child molesters, which is a crime for law enforcement to handle. presumably in the last days when jesus arrives as judge and executioner, he says the famous scripture, "many will say to me in that day, lord, lord, did we not prophesy in your name and expel demons in your name and perform many powerful works in your name?

and then i will confess to them, 'i never knew you, get away from me you workers of lawlessness'".

Thanks jgnat, the last verse that you quoted is the one I was thinking of...I still don't get it. It seems that they must have belonged to Christ already even tho.....they weren't known by the apostles.. Is that your thinking too? How could someone cast out a demon in His name if they didn't know Him? I do agree with truthseeker that it was a way for Jesus to teach that differing groups (denominations) can belong to Him becaus it is the heart that matters not the building that you attend.Notice the apostles starting to act as though just because they didn't know those people meant that they weren't Christians who should be casting out demons in Jesus' name?? Sounds like the modern day mistake that many still make, doesn't it? love, dj

what is your thought on romans 14?

is only about food, or could you use it to argue it that you can celebrate thanksgiving, xmas.

maybe it is ok if a woman dose not wear a hat when praying and so on, if it dose not bother you.

I agree. I'd be interested on your opinion about the thread by Miner entitled...something like, JW's and locusts of the bottmless pit. This is the teaching by the jw's that blew my mind and started me running. The thread was started today 6/5/03

Mormons Last Night

i mentioned last week in another thread that some mormons were to be coming by.

the way all this came about was that, in late april, my wife and i went to las vegas for a few days.

she was assigned by her company to attend a conference there, and, since i had never been more than a few miles west of the mississippi river, decided to tag along to see the sights.

I have been with the thread since it began and I don't need you to explain the disagreement to me. I still hold the vies that telling SOJ to get out of the gene pool, etc....is rude. TH never has repeatedly provoked and insulted people as well as Farkel and others without ever being held accountable as others are when they have their threads locked. There is a double standard for certain people here and I agree with Prisca that it is wrong. Imo. people ough to be treated as humans and there are other ways to make one's point without acting like children.

I agree metatron and this has been stated over and over again in this thread! I am waiting for SOJ to answer how she can agree with my posts and not the others when we all are saying the same thing. SOJ? I also think that it is wrong to attack SOJ with some of the comments made. If you can't speak respectfully to another human being then please stop posting here. Your rudeness only worsens matters. If you hate the jw teachings, fine....I do too... but remember that once that you too were misled. If somone spoke to you the way that you speak to SOJ....would it have helped you or angered you? Think. dj

Can I please point you attention to the thread started by MINER today entitled..."JW's and the locusts from the Abyss" I would love to hear what you all think about that. This very topic is what had such an impact on me 7 yrs. ago that i began to unravel all of the wt teachings. I have never had anyone to discuss this with before. Thanks a lot...love to you all, dj

p.s. As far as this thread is concerned.....I think that it is not profitable to argue this matter. It is for our Lord to judge us. I hardly believe for a sesond that this particular issue is something to divide over because it leads us to possibly not loving one another. Love is what matters to our Lord.

Finally, someone sees what I saw 7 years ago! I e-mailed the author with a few questions just now because I have only one translation RSV that uses the name abaddon in the OT. The rest use destruction.I am confused as to the meaning of the name is it "the destroyer" or destruction. It sounds similar but one is a title and one is an action. It is a minute difference but I guess that is why most translations don't use abbadon in the OT. It would be interesting to find out which is correct. I always suspected that there was something far beyond just another denomination or even just another cult with the JW teachings. I am so happy to read that someone else understands REV. 9 the same way that I do. Thanks for the link, Miner>>>>>>>love, dj
