I don't see that the bible teaches "soul sleep" Paul spoke of being absent from the body and being present with the Lord. If the soul = the body as the wt teaches....that would make no sense. Paul also said that to die was gain. He longed to die but he knew that he still had work to do here for Christ and his followers. Also, the parable in Luke of the rich man and Lazarus that Jesus taught tells us of life immediately after death. Then, there is also the resurrection of the body for the dead while the living are changed into glorified bodies at the coming of Christ for His church. There is a lot going on. I do not pretend to understand it all.

Does the Soul continue to Exist after the Death of the Body?
by Blueblades in.
do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul.rather be afraid of the one who can destroy both soul and body in hell....the words of jesus at matthew 10:28. so,according to jesus, the soul does exist after the death of the body.but in order not to be destroyed you must fear the one who can destroy your soul.. what a way to live!.

False teachers and false prophets . Jesus spoke of someone saying, "Look there He is or Here He is...or He is in the inner chambers..." He said "DO NOT LISTEN".Every eye will see Him. How is it that they contradict Christ's own words and tell us that He returned invisibly? False = Lie.

The Scripture They Ignore, Ignore, Ignore...
by metatron inonce upon a time a guy named jesus founded a new religion.. one of the things he - and his biographers - emphasized was "stop judging!".
he went even further, saying "stop condemning!
" (luke 6:37) the context of these.

I think I made it quite clear that "judging" is a function of life itself. When a person has good judgement it means that they skillfully apply criteria in the decision process.
When Jesus counseled against "judging" I hope he meant the tendency to judge without the pertinent facts.
proplog,
You are ignoring the facts of the watchtower teachings. To be clear here, Jesus spoke about judging others within the context of salvation not "skillfully applying criteria with good judgment". I am surprised that you don't see a difference here! You're just kidding right? As far as having the pertinent facts goes......If the jw's are not judgmental then I am a monkey's uncle.....and I'm a female so we know that can't be right....

Who Really Rules the World?
by Kenneson inone of the current topics discussed by the watchtower society concludes that it is satan who really rules the world.
http://watchtower.org/library/t22/who_rules.htm of course, a number of scriptures are offered as proof.
however, a number of other scriptures are completely overlooked.

God is in control of whatever satan does anyway....................that is what the wt can't get a grip on. If we belong to Christ, we are not ruled by Him. "The whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one" is referring to those who do not belong to Him. The god of this world....same thing.... Materialism, lovelessness, pride, etc....that is the world. It aint about birthday gatherings....

JWs Serve Abaddon
by Kaethra in...he that most jesus-believers think of as the big bad (*nod to joss*).
how is that i never got this when i was an active dub?
as per the link, (that i stole from another x-dub board...oh no!

Hi Kaethra,
Nice to meet you. This teaching is one of the ones that made me leave. It seems that they have fallen into a mess because of their teaching about Jesus being an angel. Their interpretation of those passages is down right wacky.

Hi proplog2
I have to disagree with you as well. Even the jw's themselves or maybe the ones who pay attention to what is being taught......admit that they are BRINGING JUDGEMENT as locusts in Rev. They judge who is a sheep and who is a goat......etc.. They couldn't be much more judgmental. Prisca made a valid point as well. The wt calls itself the mouthpiece of God. They do not physically kill in wars, that is true but they HATE and hate is murder according to Christ. That religion is loveLESS.
As far as the scriptures you are mentioning....read them IN CONTEXT. Love is the narrow gate in Matthew 6. There are many religions who teach that they can earn salvation by obeying certain rules and that it is not the FREE GIFT of God thru Christ. The jw's are only one of them. They lip serve salvation by faith just as they lip serve most of the bible. They may be sincere but they are sincerely wrong. I have come across many judgmental people in religions in my life in many denominations but to say that the jw religion is non judgmental is totally ludicrous. They admit to being judges by calling themselves a "plague who brings judgment". Pay attention man!

(Warning, rant enclosed) I feel like my brain is turning to mush.....
by razorMind ini'm sick of my job, sick of the city i'm living in, sick of most of the people who surround me daily.
like a lot of folks here, i was "encouraged to find education within jah's service" discouraged from seeking further education whilst being raised in the troof.
were it up to my father, i probably wouldn't have been permitted to attend regular public school, grades k through 12, much less college---education was that much maligned in my family.

Hey Razor,
It's ok. Congrats on the bambino! Listen to me sweetie....having a baby changes alot of things that you can't even imagine. There isn't really any way to know how you will feel and change after your baby is born. My advice to you is from my heart and that is, just to focus on the baby now and try to enjoy your last few months alone with your hubby. You are not old....if, at some point after the baby arrives....you still desire an education then go for it! Just keep in mind that the most important job on the entire earth is the hand that rocks the cradle. It is a selfless, tiring, non-cash job but it is rewarding all of your days. If these mindless people bug you now.....lol.....wait til you have that baby.....then you will run from them and hide your kid too! All the best.....slow down and breathe deep. Savor this time now, even journal some of your thoughts. Pamper yourself NOW because once the bundle arrives, your life is very different. very.....different....did I say very? I meant VERY>>>> Congrats again!!!! love, dj

Raised by a religion
by startingover inrecently i came upon this statement on this board: .
they were a couple: husband and wife; they were providers: mom and dad; they were people: man and woman; but they weren't really parents.
they let the religion "parent" me... .

Startingover,
I understand the anger toward your parents. I can relate. I was 15 in '75 so it did not impact me like it would have if I was 21. That is an age when imporatnt life decisions are being made....I was still in high school.... I know a man who sold his house because of those teachings. He is an xjw now and a loving Christian man. I have had days when I felt that I hated my parents for the upbringing they gave me...but it has been 7 years now and I have learned to see them as misled and only trying to do thier best... It is a hard thing to come to grips with...just try to remember not to disrespect them as your parents. You don't have to feel respect for their religion but you need to treat them respectfully. It is a tough thing to live with, I know but you can do it. Take their advice and KEEP checking things out.....they are wrong and you need to know that for sure before you can heal. It is hard to love before you are healed from the past lies and pain. I wish you much love and patience. dj

I understand what you are saying. It is funny how when asked, the jw's downplay 1975. They claim now that there were some members who overreacted about 1975. They never admit that they caused it or taught it. Imo.....they people who believed what they really taught about 1975 were the faithful dubbies. The ones who say they never really believed it surprise me because....how on earth can they claim that the wt speaks for God if they don't believe what the wt teaches? So are they saying that they knew they were false prophets all along? Classic example of thier wacky jargon. When I read the watchtower articles about 1975 it is CLEAR that they taught it was going to be the end. If you parents did not believe that those satements (prophecies) were true then how did they justify staying in a religion that claims to be God's mouthpiece while being wrong at the same time? Makes no sense to me to say>>>"Oh well, we have made mistakes, we are human" HA! They allow no other religion the same courtesy...if another religion made the claims that they do and did what they do.....they would have a field day bad mouthing them and showing how they belong to false religion. Such hypocrisy....
