wasanelderonce: the brother confided in a relative of mine. After it was said and done there was much speculation (gossip) as to what they could have done. I think they started telling people what had happend so that no one would think they had some problem as a married couple (adultery, etc.). Better people know the truth than speculate something worse. They are now in a different cong.

Deception in the Elder/MS Appointment Arrangement
by deaconbluez inthe society claims that all appointments of elders and ministerial servants in the congregation are made by holy spirit.
now, the inexperienced or new witness is under the impression that jehovah, by means of his holy spirit, puts it into the hearts and minds of the body of elders that so-and-so is ready to serve, and the appointment happens accordingly.. but they actually employ a sort of deception with this process, because when they say, "holy spirit directs all appointments of men in the congregation", they actually mean that each brother considered for appointment is examined to see if he has the qualities listed by paul in his letter to timothy about the qualities of congregation shepherds.
so they reason that since that writing of paul's was inspired by holy spirit, then by extension, the appointments which happen as a result of using that list of qualities to examine an individual, the appointment is made by holy spirit.. this is like saying that people are hand-picked by simon for american idol because the regional producers of the show use a list of things to look for in contestants and that list just happened to be written by simon.

Onthewayout: The example you give of elders being able to cover over their past sins reminds me of something. There was a young (late 20's) MS and his pioneer wife in our cong. who lost thier priviledges and were publicly reproved a few monthe ago. A reliable source told me that what happend was that after 7 or 8 years of marrige their conscience bothered them about some improper conduct they engaged in while dating. They spoke to the elders who then served the above sentence. They were crushed. They thought they might lose priviledges and have private reproof, but never in a million years did they expect it to be public. Absolutely no one knew of their behavior. How do you like them apples?

This is a tragedy no matter how you look at it.
It could have happened to anyone, regardless of religion.
Purps: this may have been the first time the boy was violent. Many families with disabled children keep them at home until they absolutly cannot handle them. Also, autism is not a psychiatric disorder. It's neurological and still very misunderstood.
Yadda: Autistic children can be easily "set off". It's unfair to adversely judge the mom.

I Need Some Help!
by Sunspot ini know i'm taking the easy way out----but i'm in a debate with a (particularly snotty) jw and i can't find the answer in the "litter-ature"...but its gotta be there somewhere...... it concerns a jw praying for a dfed or a daed jw.....i always understood that a jw could not pray for them.....but this jw says they can...and do.. has there been "noo lite" on this?
did *i* misunderstand it all these years?.
is there any printed wts info about this?

What's really ridiculous is the fact that as witnesses we would take the word of the WT as to whom to pray for! Never mind sharing our thoughts and feelings freely with God, follow the RULES, that's what matters!

No way! 50% of people would not send back a coupon even if money were being offered. Besides, not all the tracts were distributed. I myself have al least fifty in my house that were not given out, and I know I'm not the only one. Many of those tracts will sit on witnesse's shelves for months or longer. This is a total crock!

I agree with parakeet. Keep it low key, and put it on her whether or not to discuss your issues.

by zanex inin the vain hope that maybe...just maybe things would be better...or at least somewhat improved...i was wrong.
i was told about the al gore dvd that talks about how bad the world is and when i tried to say i didnt want to think about how bad the world is and rather think of ways to improve it they showed me a book about "how to deal with emotions" or something like that...i kind of tuned out right about then.
i talked about my job and my dad said, "see!

I'm sorry you are having a rough time. For what it's worth, my parents don't validate my achievements either. My dad in particular. He's an egomaniac nd sees everything as "about him". How everything reflects on him is his main concern in life. It's tough to live with, but just remember. It's not your fault. It's natural to want validation from our parents, but if you don't get it does not mean you don't desrve it.
Hang in there...
