WHO'S 40 OR NEARLY 40!!!!!

2007 is the year i turn 40, in fact in exactly one month's time to be precise.. i've noted that a lot of people on jwd are a similar age to me.
i think it's because it takes us this long to pluck up the courage to finally leave the borg.. i need to know how turning 40 makes you feel.

In answer to your questions:
First let me say it was the DO, not the CO who made the comment about professions not useful in the NO. My mistake.
As for chemists: the DO is American, so he was not referring to a Pharmacist. He did say that a chemist invents new drugs. I guess he felt the need to inform his ignorant audience. While this may be the case of some chemists, he either neglected to say, or does not know himself, that chemists to a miriad of things that are useful to mankind.
As for the CO saying:" We do not miss meetings for work, homework or schooling. Repeat: We do not miss meetings for work, homework or schooling." This is a direct quote. It was said by the CO, from the platform, exactly like I posted it.

Most controversial?
by joe_black ini know that most of what the wbts says and does is viewed by many of us as hogwash, but what do you think was the most controversial thing that happened or was said by the watchtower in 2006?...............i mean something so obviously off the wall or sinister that it would make even the most hardcore jw pause and say, "hey, what the f*ck?!!

2- 0% of our young ones who go to college remain witnesses. The DO said he was told this by fellow DO's at a DO meeting.
3- We do not contribute enough to the World Wide Work. Example: If you are going to put something in the contribution box and you look in your wallet and have a five dollar bill and a twenty dollar bill, what will you do? You may think the twenty is a fortune and put in the five. Then you go to Wallmart and see a new DVD for 18.95 and you pull out that twenty and purchase the DVD. "But we are not milking you for money". The DO
4- We take too many nice vacations. Years ago a couple would take a nice trip or cruise to celebrate their 25th anniversarry and it would be a big treat. Today it's no big deal because we are "always" going on nice trips. The DO said this after talking about contributions.
5- If you do not dress modestly you will not survive Armaggedon. The CO.

Preying on the vulnerable
by carla ini wonder if jw's know that society at large finds it disgusting that they prey upon the most vulnerable?
(this is actually a rant i can't elaborate on, but i'm pissed off about it)

Not only do they target the vulnerable (immigrants, poor, troubled), the encourage staying in a vulnerable state. By not encouraging education and by creating more and more foreign language congs. they effectively keep a large number of their people economically impoverished and uneduacted. Thus, these people will always look only to the Society for the answers to their problems because they know of no other source.
