Sharing Your new light with your Parents
by pratt1 inevery so often i get to share some of my thooughts about the borg and my new found beliefs with my mom , who is a die hard pioneer for over 20 years.. we actually have had decent conversations about doctrines and interpertations of the scriptures, and she has admitted that at times the borg may have misapplied certain scriptures over the years.. her excuse is that imperfect men sometimes make mistakes and jehovah makes allowances for this.. but what really gets her upset is when i bring up certain aspects of my childhood, that because of her belief in the borg, she made some unwise decisions for not only me be her family.. me getting baptized at 13, her not being fully supportive of higher education, cutting off family members, pushing me into an early marriage when i was clearly not ready, teaching me that all "worldly people', including my father woiuld die at armageddon, these are just a few examples that when we discuss them, she becomes extremely angry and then accuses me of making her out to be a bad mother.. i got me thinking, do you think that many dubs refuse to acknowledge the problems with their religion because it would mean that they made some really bad decsions in their and their families lives.. are they afraid to accept the responsiblity for this because of the guilt they would suffer?.
what are your thoughts?

Yes. Guilt about harming your children in some way is hard to face.

Personal Truths
by searching4truth ini have been doing alot of soul searching lately.
having been raised as a dub and my entire world focused on that existence i seem to be a bit lost as to who i am.
everything my life was based on was a lie, so that being the case i find myself having to toss all my former philosophies aside and start from scratch.

I too was raised in the "truth" and raised my children in it as well. After almost 50 years I'm on my way out. I have felt the very same things you mentioned. Some days are worse than others. For the most part I stay positive. I concentrate on making today the very best. I concentrate on showing love and compasion to everyone I meet. My goal is to be an encouragement to everyone that I come in contact with. I think that if I do this all other things will fall in to place. Jesus said the two greatest commandements were: to love god and love our fellow man. Even though I don't even know if I believe in the Bible at all, I think that is good advice. Nobody ever went wrong by being kind to others. The rest is all fluff.

I knew a 13 year old unbaptized girl back in the early 70's who was disfellowshipped when she became pregnant.

Why do you post?
by avidbiblereader ini am not talking about questions or inquirying about what to do with a problem.. when you post what are some of the reasons you give your thoughts on matters?.
for me, i enjoy talking to others who can understand my experience but more importantly for me, i know there are lurkers or people right on the fringes who are sick of all of it.
i try to give a biblical explanation on matters that shows the error of going beyond the things written.

You've been inactive for a year and have not had elders wanting to meet with you? You are doing great! Maybe it's time to drop out of sight altogether... If asked to meet with the bros. I would advise you not to. Just say your too busy, or don't feel you have anything to discuss. Be friendly and well manerd but stand your ground.
